Atlanta Hawks at Knicks: Game Thread

NEW YORK — Much of the news of the day was reported earlier with the news that Joe Johnson is out of the All-Star Game because of his ailing left knee and Marvin Williams response to a report he wants out.

As the game thread, here is coach Larry Drew’s take on the adversity affecting the Hawks as the limp home from another 10-day, five-game road trip and the loss, at least temporarily, of their second all-star.

* “I want to see us respond to the fact that we have two all-stars who won’t be here. … I want to see our guys respond in a positive way and that means playing consistently from start to finish, four solid quarters.”

* “I just personally feel that this is a true test to see what our team is made of, where we are at this point. We said all along in bringing in help off the bench, veteran guys, can come in and help us in these types of situations. You lose key guys and it opens up opportunities for other guys to play. It’s a matter of us responding to the challenge.”

* “We can’t allow any adversity to step in to the fact where we fragment when the situations are what they are, given our schedule, that we have key players out. We have to keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep marching on.”

Also:

Drew said his team will not get caught up in the Jeremy Lin hype that is sweeping New York. In the Knicks’ last 10 games – nine with Lin as a starter – the guard has averaged 24.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 9.2 assists, 2.9 steals and 5.6 turnovers.

“The one thing that I won’t allow to happen as we prepare for New York, or any team, we don’t focus on just one guy,” Drew said. “Too much focus, too much attention on one guy and then you leave these other guys open. Our approach to the game tonight will not be to stop Jeremy Lin. It will not be that. We know what we have to do against him. We know what we have to do against the rest of their team but we will not just focus on one guy.”

As a final note, former Hawk Mike Bibby paid a pre-game visit to his old team’s locker room before the game.

“And Mr. Poop laments the fact that Sund did not sign EARL WATSON… Mr. Poop’s preferred savior of the franchise…”

According to you, I think Teague is the next Magic Johnson and Earl Watson is the franchise savior. You and Astro Joe should hang out together and just build straw men all day long.

Earl Watson +2.7 per 48 minutes.

“Josh is not better then Deng atleast Deng knows his role and plays with in his game Josh doesnt do that”

Deng’s team is talented enough that he can play a role appropriate for his skill level. Josh’s team is devoid enough of talent that he has to play an offensive role way too big for his skill level.

LD IS PROBABLY THE WORST COACH IN THE LEAGUE

Raise the white flags…order the car service…hop the plane and return to Atlanta and maybe they can end this week with a win against Orlando..

Oh yeah, and even with Josh playing a role too big for his skill level, and even though Deng has the league’s best point guard running the offense for him, Josh still shoots a higher percentage than Deng. So much for efficiency.

Crazy88, don’t get Mr. Poop started. According to Poopy, Jeff Teague is the Hawks’ secret weapon and, if you disagree, he’ll pull out the senior-year thesis of some obscure Poli-Sci major from that wondrous intellectual hot-bed of activity in downtown ATL (of course, I’m talking about Ga State) to demonstrate how wrong you really are.

I wonder how good Josh and Teague would be if we had a a real coach? Popovich, Sloan, etc.Dont care about anyone else. They can stay in NY if they want to. Joe too. Oh yeah, he’s at home chillin.
Build this thing around Teague and Josh and hire a REAL NBA COACH.

303,

I don’t understand the calling for T-Mac to start. He was brought here to play about 15 a night. If the Hawks pace him right, he could be a major factor in the playoffs (assuming the Hawks make it to postseason). I just do not want T-Mac getting worn down..

A healthy T-Mac in the playoffs mean nothing if the Hawks are a 7th seed, because that means a first round loss. If we finish 4th or better, we have a better chance of advancing, even if T-Mac is worn down.

If the Hawks had just played Teague from day one last year, they would have kept their first round pick and Kenneth Faried would be playing Ivan’s role.

People got mad at Magic when he said the Hawks looked “unprepared” during that Miami blowout. But Magic may be dead on the money.

Personally, I’m shocked that they took a beatdown like this. Even New Orleans beat these cats in MSG, but we’re not even competitive?

Northcyde ,

What’s so shocking? These guys flat out QUIT on the court.

By the way, isn’t it interesting that “Joe vs. Josh” is starting to rear it’s head?

Well tonight Josh is the only team captain available.

I’ve watched his effort, his decisions, his play, his body language, his attitude….everything…

And I see few differences as compared to last season, the one before, the one before…

Statistically, Josh is outplaying Joe overall this year. Maybe it’s because of Joe’s injuries which he never talks about, or other stuff. I don’t know. Some of it Joe has to own up to.

But this was another opportunity for Josh to lead. But instead, the team quit.

Well, except for Teague, Green, Ivan, and Pargo.
