Atlanta Hawks: Tracy McGrady fumes over playing time

Portland–Hawks forward Tracy McGrady’s private frustrations over his playing time finally boiled over after he played just 4:39 during the 97-77 loss to the Blazers late Saturday.

“I’m tired of this [bleep],” McGrady said. “You can put that in the paper, I don’t give a [bleep].”

McGrady didn’t play after halftime against the Blazers. He didn’t dress for Atlanta’s 101-99 victory at Phoenix Wednesday but said it was his decision to rest for the second game of a back-to-back. Against the Blazers, McGrady never returned after Marvin Williams replaced him with 7:21 left in the first half.

McGrady has played in 26 of 32 games this season for an average of 18 minutes before Saturday’s game. Last season with Detroit McGrady averaged 23 minutes in 72 games.

McGrady said Hawks coach Larry Drew hasn’t offered him an explanation when he doesn’t play him many minutes.

“If you don’t feel I can help, come tell me that,” McGrady said. “He ain’t told me nothing. I just want to help these guys win, man, which I know I can. But, damn, four minutes?”

McGrady made his comments after Drew’s postgame news conference. Earlier this week Drew, speaking generally about the limited amount of minutes available for his many veteran players, said he thinks it’s important to offer them an explanation when they don’t play much.

McGrady said he’s previously approached Drew about the topic but doesn’t plan on doing so again.

“I have before but I’m only going to do that one time,” McGrady said.

Drew has said he’s mindful of saving McGrady’s body from wear and tear. McGrady was a two-time scoring champion before a series of injuries that includes a herniated disk in his back. He suffered back spasms on Jan. 11 and sat out three games.

McGrady said that when he suits up, that means he’s ready to play.

“My body feels great,” McGrady said. “If it didn’t, I wouldn’t play.”

Under CBA rules, McGrady would be eligible for a trade on March 1. He didn’t go so far as to say he wants out of Atlanta but said he wants to play a bigger role for the Hawks.

“Hopefully, I’m here,” he said. “I like it here. I like the guys. That’s what I love most about it. I like the guys in this locker room. But at the same time, I still can play. No doubt in my mind.”

In fairness, he looked like sh-t in those four minutes, but on the other hand, Vlad didn’t do sh-t either, so it’s questionable at best why Vlad is getting minutes ahead of T-Mac.

Snap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

McGrady is not one who will sit quietly and not say “bleep”!!

Also,i think if its not resolved between he and LD that Management will side with da coach and let T-Mac go..
Now to also be fair,i don’t know why t-mac is tripping because he knows he is not good for a long period of PT and he is not consistently healthy enuff to play game after game after game..

He knows he is old..
And LD knows it too!!

I knew it was just a matter of “bleeping” time before he would go off!!

And u can tell him Nunna said so!!

And one more thing:
This tirade coming from a player like a t-mac and with the beating LD took from the TNT crew on Ivans breakout nite, its gonna be hard for LD to get any free agents to come here now..

He will not return as hawk coach next year..They will not offer him a contract..

Andrew,i smell something with that lineup also..
It stank!
I agree that the only real trade value we have is with Al Horford.
Josh can be moved but other coaches who win, like a doc rivers will get jsmooves respect before he lands in boston.

We won tonite but,i still think that this team is 4 players and another head coach away from at least competing in the 2nd round and winning it!

Everyone is tradable.
But i would keep Teague,Horford, and Ivan..
Everybody else can go..Even JSmoove..
The only way i would keep JSmoove is if we brought in a winning coach that he will listen to and trust..

He nor this team listen to Drew..
Drew still has to go and don’t feel sorry for him if he goes..
He’ll end up on 790 as a college basketball analyst or something..
Or,the traffic guy..Larry “Crash” Drew

Before Kirk was activated, T-Mac topped 20 minutes in 7 of the 14 games he played.

Since Kirk joined the team, T-Mac has topped 20 minutes in 2 out of the 13 games he has played.

Kirk’s return has eaten into T-Mac’s minutes and Teague’s minutes. Neither T-Mac nor Teague has been as effective since then, and Kirk hasn’t done a whole lot in his minutes either — definitely not much more than what Pargo was doing.

Sund needs to make a move. The rotations were fine the way they were before. Trade Kirk for a big man.

Old or not, TMac (even on a bad night) does more than VRad does.

His play-making ability makes him an asset while he’s on the court. Not sure between him and VRad whose defense is better, but I can see how he is frustrated when people like VRad and MARVIN are playing more than him.

Do I think this will change however, no. As TMac said in his own words “I have before but I’m only going to do that one time.”

Hawks Bench

Perimeter players: Kirk, T-Mac, Pargo, Green, Radmanovic
Big men: Ivan, Dampier, Collins

And you’re already playing a 6′9″ 225 pound guy at power forward who isn’t big enough to contest shots by players of Pau Gasol or LaMarcus Aldridge’s size.

Does Sund really not see a problem here? MAKE A DAMN TRADE

HawkEye

February 19th, 2012

The sooner Kirk is traded the better, but I can’t see how anyone would want him at this current time.

Najeh Davenpoop

February 19th, 2012

Before Al’s injury and Kirk’s return, T-Mac and Zaza used to come off the bench and run the pick and roll pretty nicely. Yes, it is hard to believe, but the Hawks actually used to run pick and rolls this season. I still haven’t seen our heady, savvy, veteran backup point guard Kirk run a working pick and roll with Zaza, but I’ve seen him take at least 8 long 2 point jumpers off the dribble with more than 15 seconds left on the shot clock. Just saying.

Kirk is a good player when healthy, but he is not good enough to f-ck up what was a very effective bench rotation, and he has a LOT more value to this team as an $8 million dollar expiring trade chip than as a player. MAKE A DAMN TRADE.

Tonight was a clasic case of hard work beats talent when talent does not work hard! As for JT – he struggledd, but I counted at least 4 wide open Hawks whom should have scored on an assist from JT. ZaZa is the biggest culprit because he is the only one that will follow JT to the basket. Josh acts like he hates JT because he refuses to pass him the ball.

Lastly, if you give the keys to your Lexus to a 15-year old, there are certain things you should expect. I am getting really concerned about these games the Hawks come out and don’t even compete!

Lastly, for the season, JT is 12.5ppg 4.7 ast 2.1 rb and 1.77 steals. Bibby’s last two season were 9.4 ppg and 3.6 ast. JT will get better, but LD has to let the kid play. He also needs to get his rotations down.

Double-edged sword here…

T-Mac sits himself vs. Suns, obviously not feeling well…
Dresses vs. Blazers, feeling better Lewis?…
Now, when he sits himself is he pouting or recouperating?…

If I’m LD, I don’t know from one day to next if he’s ready…

If I’m T-Mac, you knew when you signed me what u were getting…

As a former player, I’m siding w/ T-Mac on this one…
He’s the best player on the team..4min?…that’s BS!…

T-Mac/Willie Green should be playing 20+mpg…if not starting

Let him get his groove on…we should by now what we have

Trade deadline will resolve some P/T issues, pro’s stay quiet and ready…

Buddy Grizzard

The problem with making a trade is that Smoove is our only trade asset, and trading him would instantly put this franchise in rebuilding mode for anywhere from 5-10 years. You will recall that I advocated playing Kirk and Marvin so that they could establish trade value and be moved by the trade deadline. Well, we’ve seen enough of both of them. Last year’s Orlando series may be the last time Kirk ever substantially contributes to an NBA team’s success. Marvin is Marvin. We played them, they played like hell and nobody else wants them.

Najeh Davenpoop

February 19th, 2012

Not to mention that trade would get the Hawks comfortably under the luxury tax line and allow them to pursue free agent scrub big men like Kyrylo Fesenko in peace without having to worry about whether they will get their precious rebate checks at the end of the season.

I watched the Wizzards beat the Blazers at home. They did it with a lot of energy plays. The Hawks do not come out with that kind of energy every game, why? Also I love Batum. He is a really good young player. Drafted with the 25th pick by Houston and I guess traded to Portland. I know the Hawks picked up JT that season, but I would trade hime for Marvin EVERY day of the week!

Mcgrady is right to complain. Why is marvin even playing, check out his stats the last ten games.

Mcgrady sees the floor pretty damn well. Him and zaza had a nice routine earlier this season when tmac got pt.

I guess ld actually did some coaching in the first quarter because we didnt see that ugly iso joe crud. He looked good cutting to the basket, truth be told he wasnt facing much defense at that point.

X3,4…. About hinrich. I dont mind seeing him go, but what team will eat that contract… Hawks will have to take some of it. Not as easy as snapping your fingers and trading him for a useful big.

Najeh Davenpoop

February 19th, 2012

There are 48 minutes to be played at the PF position and C position, totaling 96 minutes.

Josh played 41 minutes
Zaza played 28
Ivan played 4

That adds up to 73.

That means the Hawks were trying to get by with perimeter players (mostly Vlad) for 23 minutes at one or both of the big man positions. Not to mention, Josh has the body of a swingman to begin with.

And LD wonders why they are getting doubled up on the boards?

Get Ivan and Dampier some damn minutes, and trade Kirk for someone better than Ivan and Dampier so that LD has no excuse but to play someone who can guard big men and rebound.

Vlad put up a whopping 1 point and 1 rebound in those 23 minutes, just for the record. Ivan could have done better than that on both ends.

For the one time that it needs to be said, Leuer sux and isn’t going to help this team. But Sund probably has an eye on this talent.

And would it surprise anyone if Sund ended up signing Kirk to a MY deal before he can get to free agency?

Our ineptness continues with another loss to a team that is not a contender in the West. And Joe starting to have knee issues should concern the rest of us that Josh now will have the offense go through him even more.

Ger ready for more struggles just ahead.

Where are those Marvin supporters? Someone tell him it’s okay to start being more involved while he’s on the court. 10/2 isn’t getting it done in 24 min. And JT my man, we need you to be ready every night.

I have really enjoyed watching T-Mac play this year. He has been a good edition to the team. But, he is wrong on this one. The whole point of bringing him here was so be could help in the postseason. He won’t be able to do that playing a bunch of regular season minutes and getting hurt, which is what will happen if LD gives him too much time.

T-Mac needs to look “Big Picture”. It’s about the postseason, not a Saturday night game in February. Starting to understand why he is ways booed when returning to past stomping grounds. Looks like he is a pain in the ass to deal with. Bringing this to the media is a bush league thing to do.

Their number one priority is staying under the salary cap. Period. There isn’t gonna be any shopping of anyone on this team. They aren’t going to acquire a big name coach if it costs money. They are going to get into the playoffs, maybe get to the second round. They’ll the spin that as success. Other teams see that we have no real trade assets so we aren’t gonna get anything going on the trade front. For those of you saying “trade this piece for that piece,” man do I wish we had a front office that thought like this. I have no problem with Tracy voicing his displeasure with his playing time. This isn’t about Tracy being selfish or wanting more attention. Its about the Hawks losing games and the coach not using him effectively.

For the most part Tracy hasn’t sat out the second of a back to back or the third game of a back to back. Phoenix is the only game he sat out in that regard. He’s had 3 games rest and LD playing him 4 min is some b.s.

The Hawks got Tracy to help them make a stronger playoff push but If the team is steadily losing games there will be no post season push and I think Tracy see’s that.

Tracy is like a vintage sports car. He doesn’t have the ignition to just go 0-60 mph in 3 seconds but If you slowly climb in the acceleration he will be at 60 mph in 20 seconds…

LD should be running ” point forward ” he should be put in situations to score the ball on curls..elbow..and in the post.

You can tell when LD coaches desperate because he leaves his starters in wayyyy too long..he starts trying to mix and match bench players that have no synergy on the court and he gives Vlad 20 + minutes because he’s hoping he will rain a bunch of 3’s..

What’s disturbing about watching the Hawks is that when they start getting blown out by 10, 15, 20 pts..its usually in the late first quarter and it snowballs from there..we all can see it happening…but LD see’s it and does nothing in the regard of a in game adjustment or lineup reshuffle..

There is no offensive discipline on this team IMO and that’s probably because the offense sets that LD runs are primarily just a bunch of ISO’s…I rarely see any backdoor cuts…backdoor screens…there is no motion offense on this team…a lot of b.s dribble drives…tough fadeaway shots…and missed layups…and the starters are the primary culprits..

” Realist ” you are preaching to the choir.. and I said it a month ago..that mgmt is not invested in trying to win or taking 1 step forward in making this team into a championship contender this yr.

For those of you who think they threw in the towel when Horford got insured…no sir…they knew they weren’t going to try and win when the season was announced a go.

Tracy didn’t sign with Atlanta because he needs the $$$ dude is PAID. He came to ATL because he wanted to further prove that he can still play and help a team win big. If he wanted to just ride the bench playing spot minutes he would’ve signed with Chicago which he probably regrets because in Chicago his minutes and role would’ve been smaller but with all the injuries (Rose, Deng, Hamilton ) he would’ve gotten 20 + minutes because they need help off their bench.

The hawks knew they were getting a head case when they signed this “Butt Hole.” He played a major role in the insurgent against the Detroit head coach last season. He’s had problems in Houston and Orlando which lead to both teams departing ways with him. Why should the Hawks be any different.Trade? What can you get for him? The Hawks have won games this year despite of Larry Drews inability to coach in game time situations. McGrady def has a beef. He’s had problems in Houston and Orlando which lead to both teams departing ways with him. Why should the Hawks be any different.Trade? What can you get for him? Come to terms on a buy-out or whatever and release or waive him, see if any teams will claim him.Professional teams are exercising restraint in bringing in head cases. Ask T.O.
————————————————————————————————————————————-
This is what always amazes me about sports fans in Atlanta and why our teams will never win anything. Some fans only want guys who do as they are told and shut up.Any player with an edge, who speaks out or questions decisions is always villafied by some fans.We are all allowed to question things on our jobs that concern us.Why is it cant a pro athelete do the same thing without being called names.Again your attitude is why teams in Atlanta only sign poster boys and will never win anything.Tracy McGrady obviously wants to play and earn his paycheck instead of sitting on the bench waving towels with Jerry Stackhouse and stealing money.

TMac just want to play. He does not need the money. He chose the Hawks over Chicago, probably because he saw an opportunity to play major minutes and help a team win. We have no marquee talent and were in need of leadership which he could provide.

Also, managament must agree with that because they know he chose them and was playing great off the bench and closing out games in the 4th quarter earlier in the season. The fact that Stackhouse is on the bench tells me they felt veteran leadership was necessary.

Now if you understand that, why would it surprise you that these two guys long standing veterans would say something. Do you expect Josh, Teague, or Joe to say something to rock the boat. They made their statement before preseason to add a big man and management laughed and ignored them. So if I came to help you win, you agreed that I could help, I am near the my career, you wanted leadership and I don’t need
your money, then I should speak up because you are violating our agreement in some form. Additionally, he spoke to Drew in private about the situation and nothing was done about it…what does it matter then that he goes public and say you can print that. All the backlash goes to management, you can listen, you can trade him, you can release him…really does not matter to TMac because he can get a job in the league.

Drew should listen, TMac has been more of a facilitator than a two time scoring champion ball hog. He is attempting to fit in and be the player that makes everyone else better. In those four minutes he played he had a wide open three at the top of the key, but made a skip pass to Joe in the corner, who promptly hit the side of the rim…a ball hog would have taken that shot. He has to play to be effective, just like bringing Hinrich back you felt the need to play him to get him back in shape at the expense of the production that was coming from the bench..;Pargo, Green, Tracy!

Everyone can see Drew is messing up the minutes…it took a player to go public because this forum has no impact on Drew!!!

Section 303, I can’t tell you how much I disagree with your 11:53 am post.

T-Mac is a former SUPERSTAR in this league. He can effectively play 3 positions, especially when the Hawks go zone. If he’s not hurt, there’s really no reason why Drew shouldn’t be playing him more. His skilkset is way too valuable to be wasting on the bench.

But the main reason why I disagree is because the Hawks NEED a top 2 seed to advance in the playoffs. If they’re not playing to get a #2 seed, we’re going to be talking about another 2nd round loss, possibly even a 1st round loss.

People think that benching Marvin solves our problems. Nope. The problem is that Drew doesn’t know his personnel. I mean, you can bench Marvin for T-Mac, but the personnel issues will still persist as long as Drew doesn’t understand who needs to be playing in certain situations.

Maybe T-Mac is our best backup PG, not Hinrich or Pargo. Why can’t T-Mac get time at all 3 perimeter positions to really help the Hawks?

Saving McGrady for the playoffs, and the Hawks are a 7th seed, would be a recipe for disaster.

I said a week ago that Drew needs to cut this lineup down to an 8 + 1 man rotation, with Willie, T-Mac, and Ivan getting the regular rotation minutes off the bench, with Kirk/Pargo or Vlad ( and now Dampier ) getting no minutes or spot minutes.

But the tendency of Drew since he’s been the head coach is to make offensive minded substitutiond in order to correct problems.

Drew has to know his personnel better. There is a reason why no one wanted a guy like Vlad. So why is he getting 6th man minutes lately?

How I would distribute the minutes:

PG: Teague ( 34 ) – T-Mac ( 7 ) – Hinrich/Pargo ( 7 )

G: JJ ( 24 ) – Green ( 16 ) – T-Mac ( 6 )

F: Marvin ( 24 ) – JJ ( 12 ) – T-Mac ( 12 )

PF: Smith ( 36 ) – Ivan ( 8 ) – Marvin ( 4 )

C: Zaza ( 32 ) – Ivan ( 8 ) – Dampier ( 8 )

Total minutes:

JJ – 36
Smith – 36
Teague – 34
Zaza – 32
Marvin – 28

T-Mac – 25
Green – 16
Ivan – 16

And Damp + Kirk/Pargo playing less than 10 minutes a game.

It’s about knowing your personnel. Green is an instant offense type scorer. Ivan is one of the best offensive rebounders on the team. And T-Mac may be the most versatile player on the team. Why wouldn’t you as a coach give those guys consistent minutes every night?

You completely remove Vlad from the rotation because he doesn’t do anything more special or better than any of our other forwards. He’s not a playmaker or a guy who can score off the dribble like T-Mac. He isn’t a better rebounder than Ivan, especially on the offensive glass. And he doesn’t shoot the three ball any better than Marvin. And his defense overall isn’t a significant game changer.

He’s arguably the most redundant player on the team. So why is he getting major minutes over guys who can impact the game in specific areas?

Know your personnel Drew.

From the games I have watched, aside from a few at the beginning of the year… T-Mac cant shoot, he constantly turns the ball over, he stops ball movement when he gets the ball, and he gets beaten on defense constantly. Why do you want to give him minutes?? The game last night was a prime example of T-Mac recently, shoots 3 hard clanker bricks off the rim, turns it over dribbling off his foot TWICE in a row, gets beaten on defense about 4 times in a row, and then sits down and pouts…why does LD play him at all? I mean other than a few nice passes every now and then what does he offer y’all? Have you seen his horrid shooting touch?? I mean has he made a basket in the last 5 games at all?

About 4 games ago LD was saying or contemplating about a lineup change. He’s put the same starting 5 out there every since that statement. I agree with TMAC that he should get more playing time, the way LD uses him is rather screwed. Give TMAC the time Marvin gets and you will see better production in scoring and defense.

Stack needs more playing time also, these guys can help with their knowledge of the game and although some of their skills are on the decline they are still a lot better then some of our starters, that’s a fact plain and simple. Josh will have a good game every now and then but no matter who coaches him the “premodonna complex” will forever be a part of his game. Josh playing under a winning coach that’s credible would be buying bench time and a lot of it. He has skills but the boy has no Basketball IQ.

Rick James RE: This is what always amazes me about sports fans in Atlanta and why our teams will never win anything.
Both of you guys blogs were right on point. TMac IMO, can never be wrong for speaking his mind about the state of affairs in the Hawks team. This kind of stuff goes on all the time and it’s time to put pressure on LD, letting the shiznit flow upstream. LD is vexing the Hawks because of his lack of experience, lack of respect (he never earned it), lack of wisdom (he ain’t gone none), and overall ineptitude for making in-game decisions in the most crucial moments, with respect to the key matchups in the game. LD is not to blame alone. We all know that Hawks management sucks, period. NBA commish David Stern gave them a vote of confidence only because of what he gets out of it. There should be more players on the Hawks like TMac who has the ballz to speak out-when no one else will. Don’t think that other members of the Hawks don’t feel the same way, but they are scared of what their bosses might think. I like TMac’s attitude and I think he called out LD to task. WTF- He ain’t afraid of LD. What has L.D. accomplished?, but coach a team built by those before him and a team that won more games before him? LD is a puppet, a company man that will do what his bosses want him to do on a whim. Otherwise, can L.D. be that incompetent (Dumb)? Look at his substitutions. LD gives Marvin his minutes, not according to his actual poor game play, but according to his salary on the roster. Josh doesn’t respect him. Teague’s just trying to get along-until his contract is over-then he bolts to another team. If you were a professional basketball player in the NBA-would you want to play for a team that you knew the owners were incompetent SOB’s? No, I don’t think so. The Hawks will be on the bottom as a 6th or 7th seed team-only because the Eastern Conference is so weak. The Hawks would not make the playoffs in the Western Conference-period. Fire LD is the mantra. But do you really think that’ll happen? We’ll know after the end of the season-and the Hawks bow out in the first round-as will be expected. I personally would like to see this team broken up to smithereens. I don’t care if it takes 10 years to make a team from scratch. You have to build a foundation for anything to last. The Hawks foundation is cracked and the team is crumbling under the weight of its own melodrama.

I disagree with anyone who says Josh Smith has carried the HAWKS. Again and for the last time his best years were his first 4 and he still has not learned or gotten any better. At this stage of his career he should be a forward who averages at least 12 rebounds and 20 points a game, his free throw shooting should be at 80% at the least. He should know by now to give the ball to the point guard and he should understand his strengths and weaknesses but what we have is a whiner about fouls and a “premodonna complex”. I do agree with breaking this team up and get something for Josh while it can. Marvin is definitely an amnesty player. Resign Jeff Teague, keep Al an Zaza. Ivan may have a future, the jury is still out, TMAC can still be effective and let Kirk go for a draft pick. The HAWKS need to rebuild and Joes contract is there to stay, I call that free money to a decent player, not a great one.

Piggybacking on W.R Terrell said about Josh, here is another something you don’t see in the box score.

In the Lakers game, Hawks trail by 8 with 7 minutes to play, definately still in the game.

The Lakers score and Josh broods that an offensive foul isn’t called. Since there is over 2 minutes left in the period, the game clock runs after the basket. The ball rolls out a few feet and Josh just stares down the ref to make the ref retrieve the ball and give it to Josh to inboud. Long story short, about 12 seconds went off the clock unnecessarily at a point in the game that every second was needed. Just another suttle example of Josh’s immaturity (same with complaining he gets fouled and being last up the court on defense) hurting the team.

Not all factors leading to being an all star show up in the box scores folks. He did NOT deserve to be named to the team by the coaches as a backup because they see this and appreciate those “non box score contributions”.

T-Mac should play as many minutes as his body allows. Like others have said he sees the floor better than pretty much anyone else we have. He scores in the post with ease due to his size, and he can rebound. Free T_MAC

I find it funny when folks comment on Tracy being old…The dude is 32 yrs old…He’s a yr younger than Kobe..3-4 yrs younger than Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce…

Prior to last yr he has pretty much being rehabbing for the previous 2yrs…So you can say that we haven’t seen ” T-Mac ” the player in about 4yrs when he was 28/29…..

He was the first to have that knee plasma therapy that Kobe underwent…I say give him 25 – 30 minutes and see what shakes….As long as he’s not playing 35 + minutes per night..He should hold up…

30 games are in the history books with another 36 left…Its after the Allstar Break that teams start to kick things into high gear and every win/loss will be scrutinized …

45 games is when you’re going to start to see teams really shortening up their rotations to 8 players….

T-Mac should start over Marvin Williams. Enough said..W.R Terrell and Gwinnett Fred, so you guys thrashing on Josh and there is a guy that makes $7.5 million a year and might avg 7 points a game. Yet, you thrash on a guy because sometimes he makes bonehead decisions? He’s not going to the lane getting his sh*t swatted every single game. I refuse to even put this guy’s name on my blogs anymore. He doesn’t even deserve negative notoriety. I’ll call him ZERO from now on. Amnesty ZERO? How about cut ZERO? And I have said it many times, be careful what you wish for. Trade Josh, and teams will be laying up and hanging on out rims all day with no shot blocking presence in the paint. So be careful what you wish for. GET RID OF ZERO!!

There is a leak on the web that Larry Drew is starting Willie Green in place of Marvin Williams ?

So does that mean that Joe Johnson is sliding to the SF position ? Willie Green can’t check SF’s and he doesn’t have the strength to guard SGs…

I don’t understand his thinking….you have a 6′1 PG…and 6′4 shooting guard who will be cross matched with Ronnie Brewer/Luol Deng…

T Mac is right he and the bench should get more playing time. Our situation is simple Josh, Joe and Marvin are not going to give us what we need continuously from their position. Play Green,T Mac, Stackhouse and Rad Mand more

bama 52, its ZERO at the 3 position. See if we had someone decent at the 3 position, I think it would make Joe and Josh better because it would take more pressure off of them. We are probably the ONLY team in the NBA with a dud starting at the 3 position.

Thje Hawks are weak...

They are weak because they have no leadership. The general manager is average at best, Joe Johnson only cares about his scoring and if he will make the all-star team, and the coach is an idiot. You have to play your frigging bench. I don’t give a flip how average they are, you have to show confidence in them, play them, and hope that they get better as the team starts to jell! With all these back-to-back-to-back games you can not rely so heavily on your five starters! Drew has no clue how to substitutes. He will run the starting five to death because they are selfish and will not come out of the game or he just flat out does not trust his bench. You have what you have Drew. Play the damn players and trust them. It’s starting to look like the okie doke once again! The Hawks jumped on teams that were not in shape early on. Now we get to see what we really have…another heartless, selfish, bunch of me first players!!! And you wonder why everyone always loses faith in the sorry a$$ Hawks. Play the damn bench Drew and see what happens. The starters are dang sure not blowing anyone away. HOW MANY YEARS HAVE THEY HAD TO SHOW US THAT THEY ARE LEGIT. Year after year it is the same crap! I for one think that this is a team of solid players…just let them play for frigging sakes or bench the starters and let the bench show what they have. How in the heck will you no for sure what you have and who you need to let go!!

@yoursport:
Your unnamed player (I’ll honor your request not to name him) sucks, but it’s because he’s not a good NBA player.

As for Smith, he has the most talent on the team and is probably top 10 thruout the NBA – but he’s the basketball equivalent to Nuke LaLoosh – Million $ arm and 10 cent head!

The reason he’s not showing his skills again is because LD is not giving him a chance. Marvin Williams is good, but tmac should defenitely start instead of him and williams can come of the bench. The only way he can prove the league that he is a worthy player is if they give him more minutes. McGrady has a good reason to be mad. Either give him more minutes or he can take his skills to another team that deserves it YO!

[...] I doubt this is going to get him more minutes, but it is a pretty good quote.  More likely McGrady get cuts before he becomes an impact player again. [...]

T-MAC should be pissed. It would be one thing if the team was playing so well they couldn’t find minutes for him but they are playing like crap. Aside from J Smooth all the other guys are expendable if you ask me & that starts with my former fav player Joe Johnson. I’ve never seen a guy with soo much talent so inconsistent. It might be time to offload Joe. I don’t think I can take another garbage effort in the playoffs again from him.

Its not like they are going anywhere with Tracy so why not move him elsewhere or cut him.

Hey, what role did he think he was going to have anyway?

The nice start was fools gold, they were not as good as we dreamed they were. Big deal, its the Hawks, what else is new?

Who cares, its only Atlanta sports anyway and we are bound to lose. That is what our teams are about, so why get an ulcer over it.

Not a big Sund fan, but what can really be expected?

I stopped being upset—I choose apathy, better for the blood pressure and state of mind

What has ever been so special about Marvin Williams?

Its not that he was that great in College, he was a complimentary piece on an NCAA championship team, would he have been a better player with another yr in College?

He is an okay player as an NBAer, and we know of some of the other players picked behind him.

Billy Knight goofed.
