Atlanta Hawks at Lakers: Game thread

Los Angeles–It’s the usual starters for the Hawks. Steve Blake (ribs) is active for the Lakers.

  • Jason Collins (elbow) has joined the team here but Larry Drew said it’s doubtful he will play on the trip. That means there’s a pretty good chance Erick Dampier will stick around for a second 10-day contract.
  • Collins said the elbow is feeling a lot better and has a checkup with his doctor tomorrow. He’s eager to play. “Especially a game like tonight,” he said.
  • Kirk Hinrich said he “feels great” physically and sounds as if he’s ready for more minutes: “I’m just staying patient.”
  • Hawks players gathered around Josh Smith’s IPad to watch Knicks underdog sensation Jeremy Lin hit a game-winning 3 at Toronto.

Just think……………….next sport to get it on will be those lowly BRAVES with Bobby Lite as the manager. Fansgo and support The Dream play. The only team in this city that has played in the championship game the last two years. They might be the first team to win a championship among these teams.

We have assistant coach level head coaches in this town

LD-should be at the end of the bench next to the ushers
Freddi- should be bullpen coach under the Coca-Cola sign
Mike Smith-should be a linebackers coach again.

Can we have some pro-level coaches in this godforsaken town?

P.S. Marvin blows!

Rod from College Park,

I’m sure by now you that LaMarcus Aldridge turned his ankle at 1:55 into the first quarter. Unfortunately, Jamal “checked out” [of the game], “put a stamp on it” and “mailed it in”; I guess he [Jamal] was disgusted by not playing [in] the third quarter. Dude [Jamal] only scored 3 [three] points on 1-5 shooting from the field in 23:02 of playing time; that’s a sure sign of sulking and pouting. Jamal just refused to shoot the ball. I think Nate is upset with Crawford’s [lack of] defense and Crawford is upset with Nate McMillan’s minutes [playing time] distribution and for his [Crawford's] lack of playing time. Raymond Felton sucks by the way and really messes up the rhythm of Jamal Crawford as well as the other Trail Blazers’ players. I think Raymond Felton is jealous of Crawford and doesn’t want Crawford to outshine [spelling?] him [Felton].

As overmatched as the Hawks’ starters were on paper, they would have actually had a chance to win if the bench could have clamped down on Andrew f-cking Goudelock.

The Hawks will only get better when they acquire another guy who can draw help defense. Only Johnson has the game to consistently break down a defender. The team should trade for Stephen Jackson this year or Tony Parker next year. C’mon Mr. Sund!!

“THIS IS THE HAWKS BLOG! WE OWN THIS! DON’T TALK ABOUT JEREMY LIN HERE!” – TMACfan

Just consider this advance scouting for when the Hawks lose to the Knicks and Lin embarrasses Teague just as bad as Nash does because the Hawks coaching staff can’t teach pick and roll defense.

“Today was Amare’s first game playing with Lin.”

http://espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=320204018

“But Lin’s main impact so far has come as a scorer, not as a distributor, as shown by his sub-2 assist/turnover ratio.”

Certainly he’s made a larger impact as a scorer but I believe he’s averaging around 8 assists since the New Jersey game and his shot attempts are about to go way down when Melo returns. The poor assist to turnover ratio is an indication of his sub-elite ball handling and passing skills moreso than an indicator of his role in the Knicks’ offense.

“Can we trade joe and marvin for lin” – J.J.M.

LOL.. Lin would do nothing in a Hawks uniform… LD is unfamiliar with this new offensive inovation, the “pick and roll.”

Rusty, Teague shot terribly from the field tonight, and had 2 assists to 1 turnover although he played the 2nd most minutes. Tonight’s loss is on LD. His 3rd quarter substitution of Josh for Vlad lost the game. And that was when LAL made their run to take the lead. After that, the Hawks never lead again. On top of that, LD doesn’t realize that with teams like LAL, MIA, and Bos, when you’re down seven points to them, its like being down 13-15 points, because they’re so smart with the ball. So when you see your team go down by 6 points, take a timeout. Not only do you take a timeout but CHANGE something.

It’s time to cut ties with Drew. He will get another offer from a team and we can move on. His offense philosophy does not work. The love (pun intended) Drew, Sund, and the ASG have for Joe has killed this organization. 1-8 3s and still didn’t draw a foul shot. I would rather start Duck at 2.

Drew needs to go..This team is not listening to he nor are they letting JT0 set and run most of the plays..

teague needs to learn how to drive and dish the ball to josh for easy baskets and josh also needs to make sure hes ready for the ball to be dished and not stand out by 3 point line….all these things should be talked and worked on in practice, but from the look of things I cant tell

Sunday, vs. the Heat, the Hawks score under 90 points [87] and tonight, vs. the Lakers, the Hawks score under 80 points [78]. According to this trend, I expect the Hawks to score under 70 points in their next game. I’m really getting sick of the Jeremy Lin-mania; everybody is going Lin-sane over this guy [Lin].
