Updated: Pacers at Atlanta Hawks Game Thread

Coach Larry Drew said there will be lineup changes for tonight’s game against the Pacers. Drew said Tuesday he was considering ways, including lineup changes, to get his team to play with more energy. He wants the Hawks to get their ‘mojo’ and ’swagger’ back as they have lost the past three at home.

The Hawks have lost three straight, all at home. They haven’t lost four straight home games since 2007, part of a seven straight losses.

Wednesday morning, Drew was still concerned with the Hawks lack of response to offensive runs by the opposition. The Suns used a runs between the first and second quarters and to end the third to build a 22-point lead Monday.

“The way we have responded to runs,” Drew said of his biggest disappointment during the current three-game skid. “I’ve told the guys we have to get past the point of when teams do make runs at us feeling like the game is over, particularly when there is so much basketball to be played. I gave them the example of [Tuesday] Indiana’s game with Utah. Utah went down by 22 in the third quarter and came back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The game is never over until the final horn blows. You have to, hopefully, withstand runs but you can’t get discouraged when teams make runs. …

“Under no circumstances can you hang your head when a team makes a run. You have to respond like a professional.”

Big man update: According to Drew, he expects a signing at center in the next few days.

“I think in the next few days we will have another player who we can add to give us some help at the five position,” Drew said.

Drew confirmed that the team worked out Kenyon Martin before the free agent signed with the Clippers. Drew also said the team has not decided at the direction they will go with a signee.

“We’ve talked about both scenarios as far as a 10-day [contract] and bringing someone in for the year,” Drew said. “We haven’t made a decision on it yet. We just talked about the pros and cons of both. It’s just a matter of going through the list of names.”

“Biggest difference between tonight and the last three games, to me, is that the Hawks won the center battle. Zaza is playing a great game on both ends. Interior defense led to the Pacers turnovers and bad shots that sparked the Hawks’ transition game and in turned sparked the runs the Hawks had in that first half.” -Najeh

I don’t think it’s because Zaza is winning the center battle. It’s because the Pacers are not driving to the basket, and looking like the Hawks did the past three games. All they have to do is drive to the basket and kick out the ball like they finished in the half, and they will comeback — especially with Josh’s horrible ‘let me get a block for my stats and leave my guy wide open’ defense.

Fun fact from the Miami/Orlando game: End of 3rd quarter and Anthony, Bosh, Haslem & Pittman have combined for 8 points & 19 rebounds. Dwight has 21 points & 19 boards by himself.

I corrected my self on “FACTS” but since this AIN’T englush clas who kares LOL,

Kirk returning took minutes from Pargo & Green, those 2 were struggling at 1st but were playing pretty good about the time Kirk came back. Teague is still learning the game as a starter, Kirk is an 8yr vet that most ppl here want traded to help get a BIG.

Tonight Kirk has been ballin as well as most of the Hawks tonight.

@Najeh

What if the Hawks acquire a decent center by, let’s say the Heat game. Any difference you think?

The PG didn’t really drive to the basket often to break down the defense. Now they did set up the guys in the post and they tried to make the shots, but missed.

Josh is a much better passer than a scorer. When he gets the ball that far away, people need to be cutting into the lane to give him a target for a pass, not standing around like they do during iso-Joe.

Collison tried to a couple of times that half but good man defense led him nowhere. Maybe what Josh said is actually sticking to their minds, if they stop the dribble penetration, they can stop this landslide.

I’m thinking Loss, Win, Loss in that three game stretch. We match up better with Miami, since they are smaller. We have nobody to guard Howard.

I’m not holding my breath. Even if they do, they have to get that player integrated into the offense, which isn’t going to happen overnight.

Not so much for his offense but for his defensive presence. If we don’t upgrade by Friday, Dwight will have a monster game against us, that is if he isn’t crying at his teammates

I don’t see why you think we can beat with Magic with Zaza and Ivan. I think we have a better chance against the smaller Heat team.

I just don’t think the Magic are that good. Even if Dwight dominates, the rest of that supporting cast just isn’t as good as it has been even as recently as last year, in my opinion.

Not if we start to double Howard, which will lead to open threes. I’m thinking it’s a blowout to be honest with you.

I got a bad feeling that both JJ and Smith will be left off the All-Star team. It they do, I hope it lights a fire under both of them to play at an elite level at all times.

*******
Sure. Like it lit a fire under Hanson for the braves last yr….
