Sixers at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread
6:45 pm February 4, 2012, by Michael Cunningham
- The Hawks said Jason Collins will miss at least two weeks with what they said is a sprained left elbow. Elton Brand (thumb) is out for the Sixers. Spencer Hawes (Achilles) will play.
- Collins is glad his injury wasn’t worse: “I didn’t break it, didn’t dislocate it. We will look at it in two weeks and be re-evaluated.”
- There are different degrees of sprains, which also can mean torn ligaments, but neither Collins nor Larry Drew would get into the details of Twin’s diagnosis. “They said for me to say a sprain,” Collins said.
- Drew said the Hawks are looking at candidates to sign to a 10-day contract. “It’s possible,” he said. “We met yesterday and talked about it and tossed some names around. We will keep doing that until we make a decision what we want to do.”
- Available free-agent centers include Erick Dampier, Kyrylo Fesenko, Dan Gadzuric, DJ Mbenga, and Joel Przybilla (who appears headed to Miami or Chicago). Theo Ratliff says he’s done.
- For now, the Hawks will use forward Ivan Johnson to back up Zaza Pachulia. Drew said Josh Smith also will play minutes at center while Vladimir Radmanoivic and Marvin Williams could see time at power forward. “We will be moving people around, without a doubt,” Drew said. “Game-to-game we will just have to look at the matchups and see what makes sense where we are not putting ourselves at a disadvantage.”
- Josh on losing another big man: “I guess we’ve just we’ve got to roll with the punches. In this short season when you look around the league every team has had a significant injury. We are limited at the big position. I will have to play some minutes at the five position. We just have to man up and not worry about it and just step in and be there for each other.”
- Joe Johnson: “We ain’t got no choice, man. We’ve got to step up and try to do something a little different. With the way the season is, it’s going to be somebody dropping different every week in the league. We have got to do whatever we can to stay as healthy as we can. We have got to keep rolling with that we’ve got. Somebody has got to step up and fill that void.”

This is exactly why we needed better big man depth. Zaza is totally out of his element in tonight’s matchups. Collins would have been even worse. The only guy to have an effect would have been Horford.
But Sund says we’re fine and Larry says he’s comfortable going forward like this. What a bunch of idiots.
All due to Gearon. Idiocy starts at the top.

Between retarded Philly fans (and I realize that’s an insult to anybody with down syndrome) and sh!tty play/coaching from a depleted roster, this isn’t worth watching.

More Sixers fans at the game than Hawks fans. Real Atlantans know garbage when they see it. Couple clowns on here act proud of themselves for a few second round exits LOL. Hawks have no history, no stars, no fans, and the future is a fat ass 30M shooting guard. THAT’S the best team in Atlanta? LOL

Get Ready for the February FREE FALL! That is what happens when stupid players like Josh Smith and BUST like Marvin start. Couple that with a RETARDED LOOKING and DUMB DECISION MAKING COACH and that is what you get.

37 points in the second quarter. Philly’s bench came in and completely dominated. Jumpshots, floaters, run outs, dunks and free throws.
Judging from the last 6 quarters…we may be pretenders. Or Road warriors

Lou Williams is what Jamal Crawford was for the Hawks. See what happens when the coach knows how to use a player like that. Wish we could score. I wonder where Jamal is? Does not look like we are playing such great defense without him.

LD has to realize that Marvin is trash. He plays no defense and all he is good for is a 20 foot jumper. Is he ain’t hittin his jumpers all he does is run up and down the court.

Hawks not getting back on defense! Its been like 5 times where they just jogged back down and 76ers pused the ball and scored we should be still in this game! Ivan played the best yet sat the whole 2nd….this is what I mean about Coach Drew subs his just doesn’t have a feel for the game!

The Falcons are what the Hawks would be if they got swept by the Celtics in 2008, swept by the Heat in 2009, swept by the Bucks in 2010, and swept by the Magic in 2011, all in the first round, and none of the games being particularly close.

Highlight Factory used to be a great home court advantage. Not the case the past two years since the Orlando beatdown. Hawks been getting dominated at home. Just think if the Hawks tank it they’d have a high draft pick along with Horford coming back, re-sign Ivan, Green and T-Mac

Josh’s confidence is shaken …Joe Johnson is back to playing ISO on every possession…LD is once again…looking like a deer caught in the headlights when it comes to making a in game adjustment…Management better go out and get a big body to help balance this out..I don’t care If its Eric Dampier,,Dan Gadzuric…or Fensenko…they need a big body who will give 6 hard fouls per game and take up some space in the middle…
I know the Hawks are trying to keep Tracy fresh and healthy for the second half of the season heading to the post season..but he needs to take at least 10 shots per game..

Josh trying to much. Running the point when your team is down 10+? I don’t see the sense in that. Is Drew really not drawing up any plays for Joe at all? What is the gameplan? No adjustments are being made at all. This is very aggravating to watch!
I turned to the Magic vs Pacers to many times. Now THAT is a great game. Pacers down 10 in the 2nd. Force 10 turnovers. Tie game at halftime. As I said before, I no longer wonder how the Sixers and Pacers are ahead of us in the rankings.
Let’s hope for a collective defensive effort to try and get back into this game. And then we need to find someone whose ballin tonight….and is on the Hawks team…..
