Atlanta Hawks at Hornets: Game thread

Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.

“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”

Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.

“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”

Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.

“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”

* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.

Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.

The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

Good win last night. We will know a lot more about these Hawks after their 13 February games.

Memphis, Philly, Phoenix, Indiana, @ Orlando, Miami, @ Lakers, @ Phoenix, @ Portland, @ Chicago, @ Knicks, Orlando, Golden State.

Here is an idea to keep the blog moving. Predict what you think the Hawks February record will be.

I will go with 8-5.

On a serious note: we will be 7-6 in February.

This just in: the AJC travel department has suggested that MC hitchhike to away games.

@ the Hawksta

none taken my friend just to clear anything up for anyone else. It would help us if MC at least told us what’s going on.

I’m going to be optimistic and say a 10-3 with both losses being at teams we won’t even guess in fact I’ll say the losses come from Portland, Knicks, and Phoneix of all teams.

The reality though sees 8-5.

6-7 as we get dominated by elite front court players, and Sund’s hand gets forced. What you gonna do Sund? Make a move, or stick with what you got?

dmaryb: You are clueless, read before you rip.

I suggested AJC could pay MC to at least blog from watching the game on TV. Have a sense of humor. I don’t complain against your blog entries. Pay attention to your own entries. Believe me, you should worry about your own.

Get a life.

Without adding another rebounder…5-8, I’m sorry to say.

I’d LOVE to eat some crow late in Feb., but we’ll see.

5 – 8 reasonable, at some point we stumble on one of those shoulda wins. hope 6 – 7. anything more is gravy in february.

good home stand coming up against teams that are going to be in the mid range tired teams we havnt seen much of and when we have we have stumbled ala, houston, philly and indiana. of course, “on the road”, we say, so, we are better than that, right? we will see how we match up with the home advantage on two of them, memphis is playing tough with big that could go out and put up some big numbers in gasol and a quick point a repaired rudy gay and a really tough guy in allen the type of figure we wish we had in something with a little more finesse than ivan. should be a good game and i expect to be at all of them in my “box seats” away from the madding crowd and not close to gueron’s buddies. finally, the suns could be a trap game. look out, this stand will define february.

8-5.

I’m interested to see doc’s prediction for February. I know he was picking the Hawks to have a losing record in Feb.

vava, collins might have to see some action if gasol starts to go off as he is a load that zaza and ivan may have trouble with. if he cant make an impact against a guy like gasol we are kidding ourselves to his relevance to the team with dwight heading into the sunset.

“Unfortunately, RandMo seems to lack something which also cannot be taught and that negates his pluses: he seems to lack heart/fire, which is something that is less noticeable when you are playing night in night out against guys who are 3 to 6 inches shorter than him in the CBA.”

I don’t know about whether he has heart or not, but the one thing that limited him more than anything when he was a Hawk — aside from Woody hating young players — was that he committed fouls at a rate of like 11 per 36 minutes or something. He simply can’t stay on the floor long enough to make an impact.

MEM: loss
PHI: win
PHO: win
IND: win
@ORL: win
MIA: loss
@LAL: blowout loss
@PHO: win
@POR: loss
@CHI: loss
@NYK: win
ORL: win
GS: win

I guess I have them at 8-5 too. I could see them proving me wrong against either Miami or Chicago. The only game on that list that I absolutely cannot see them winning is the Lakers game. As long as they have Gasol and Bynum they are going to dominate the Hawks.

with the catering of the magic the schedule doesnt look as imposing as it did say two weeks ago, for sure and fortunately we have more home games than away. we could easily have a 1 – 4 road trip to book end the 4 -1 we just had.

Since MC can’t deliver Hawks news because of AJC shoe string budget, we will have to find alternative sources to follow these Hawks:

Yahoo:
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=teamreports-2012-nba-atl

“By the time the Hawks make it back home to Atlanta for Thursday night’s tilt against the Memphis Grizzlies, they’ll need assistance fitting their heads in the building. They’ve been that good lately.”
