Atlanta Hawks at Hornets: Game thread

Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.

“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”

Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.

“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”

Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.

“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”

* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.

Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.

The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

We are the most unhappy 17 – 6 fan base in history. Always in worry mode, instead of enjoying the season so far.

I miss Al Horford a lot!
It would be nice to go BIG when he returns and start Al with ZaZa: Twin (no pun) Towers! LOL. But, to do that we need another mobile, defending, rebounding big. Get him NOW and we may become a title contender.

Kaman is being bought out, so there it is.

Sautee

“But these were some truly awful teams. Very little quality on benches.” – sautee -
__________

But, Sautee it’s like Barbara Striesand said, “It’s The Way We Were.” I.e. (the way we are winning)

It’s a lot different this year because we are winning on a different level, domination, crushing the life out of these teams and we are playing a different style than in the past.

The rock is swing from side to side a whole lot more on offense, and we are attacking zones and man to man defenses. The 3 point shot is deadly and, we are getting whatever we want and, showing more energy in the third quarter on this road trip.

@Sautee

all this means is that the Hawks don’t lose to scrub teams. You can spin it however you want to. 2 of those losses should have been wins…up 20 against CHI you gotta pull that one out as well as the infamous triple OT loss to the Heat. The loss to INdiana was the game Horford got injured. They haven’t won in San Antonio since Lenny Wilkens was the coach.

But anyway, this isn’t College where you can pick who you play…you play who’s on the schedule. Nobody wants to hear about strength of schedule bc everyone has it tough with traveling and no rest days.

They are blowing teams out on the road without an “all star” when people thought they would just go in the tank. They’ve just done something the franchise hasn’t done in 50 years…win 4 out of 5 on a road trip.

I guess some of you bloggers would prefer the Hawks lose to these sub .500 teams.. These teams are not sub .500 b/c they are losing to themselves. They lost to other teams with winning records as well but I guess the Hawks should give their wins back b/c the other team had a losing record. SMH

I don’t have a huge problem with the Hawks’ record against above .500 teams, since 5 of those losses were on the road, but I do have a problem with the fact that 4 of those losses were by double digits.

They have a chance to show what they are made of the next few games though.

The Hawks will start Feb on a roll and with a great deal of confidence. Once Hinrich gets his legs and gm back, and Horford returns, we’ll be a tough team to deal with. Hell, we’re arleady a tough team to deal with, so I should have said we’ll be an even tougher team to deal with. Teague, JJ, and Marvin have become much more aggressive, and it’s really paying off.

The way this team is playing, especially on DEF, and considering the difficult circumstances they’re playing under, they’ve proven beyond any doubt that Bibby and Jamal didn’t benefit the team as much as some seem to believe.

Elite Status…

Every time the Hawks answer, you change the question…
Answer:
Top 5 in defensive efficiency
Top 10 in offensive efficiency
16-6
8-5 on the road
8-1 at home
2nd in the NBA in point Diff.

Sounds like Elite to me…

As far as Kaman goes, he wants PT. No contender has a big of a hole at center as does the Hawks. But, the way Zaza is playing, kaman may have to beat him out. But, shhhh … don’t tell him that until after he signs.

Northcyde probably thinks this performance justifies Marvin being an MVP Candidate and that Joe’s performance makes him the G.O.A.T.
