Atlanta Hawks at Hornets: Game thread

Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.

“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”

Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.

“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”

Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.

“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”

* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.

Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.

The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

@Najeh

If Joel Anthony, Taj Gibson, Omer Asik, Jermaine Oneal and Haslem can get some PT for playoff teams…I’m sure Zaza and Ivan will be just fine. Jason Collins is a useless player in my opinion and if they need to cut him to make room for KENYON MARTIN then so be it because Orlando doesn’t seem like they will be a factor in the playoffs anyway.

“We all know that’s an abberation, though. Vlad’s D is usually garbage. Yet, maybe LD not letting him play is making him hustle.”

His man to man D is garbage, but he’s done a good job deflecting passes in other games this season. LD continues playing him at PF because the Hawks don’t have any true big men other than Ivan on the bench. Vlad is going to get abused on D at PF against other teams — like Ilyasova did to him earlier on this trip, for example — but Toronto doesn’t have the kind of players who can take advantage of that weakness.

We won’t be a playoff factor either…never are.

But this team seems different, maybe. Has an energy i haven’t seen since the mid to late 80s.

Ideally the Hawks would have more than one big man to come off the bench, so Vlad could play SF where he belongs.

“If Joel Anthony, Taj Gibson, Omer Asik, Jermaine Oneal and Haslem can get some PT for playoff teams…I’m sure Zaza and Ivan will be just fine. ”

Ivan is smaller and less skilled than all those players. I have no problem with him as a backup PF. But if he is going to go against 7′2″ Asik or 6′10″ Joel Anthony in the playoffs, he is going to get dominated.

Based on what I’ve seen with the other teams, I believe the Hawks can hang with any team in the playoffs, no top team will have a dominant Center so I will come down to players stepping up on the depth.

“Man Toronto music is 10X better than ours…..”-SlimJr-
________

Yeah SlimJr, ASKG should book some rap concerts after the games, esp when the stars come to town … Even they would probably shower and hang around, you know mingle with the fans to show some appreciation to the fans and promote coming out to games.

Esp. Since they don’t want to “pay-ola” for any real sound tracks. Anything to reward the fans for coming out. All these musicians that live here is a shame not to cross-market.

Lame Marketing … Just plain ole’ CHEAP!!!!!!!

Don’t ever underestimate the heart of a champion. Joel Anthony & Haslem wanted no parts of Ivan Johnson when they played the Hawks earlier in this season. Ivan did just fine against those Bulls players when they met. Gotta start having confidence in these guys man!

I am not going to give too many props to the Toronto sound people, who mostly played songs I used to listen to in 10th grade. Pass the Courvoisier? Really?

But at least they played real songs, instead of playing the goddamn organ.

I’m delighted with another road win (They are like GOLD).

However, I’m hearing a LOT of unfounded optimism based on a road trip against some truly bad teams. Yeah we would have gone 3-2 at best last year, and that’s encouraging.

But these were some truly awful teams. Very little quality on benches.

yeah sautee, these guys are wiping up the bad teams playing with an intensity even when they get ahead. they look about equal to the team that won 53. they may be better. yes i might change my mind as i did last year when they looked good going into february but this team is playing some defense which is huge. if only they had a real replacement at center, now.

Philly’s next 6 games are Bulls, Heat, Hawks, Lakers, Spurs & Clips. 5 of the 6 are at home, but that’s a good test to see who they really are.
