Atlanta Hawks at Hornets: Game thread

Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.

“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”

Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.

“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”

Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.

“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”

* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.

Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.

The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

Okay it seems this blog has gotten out of control since yesterday which is retarded.

Still though I’d rather us lay low on the trading anyone I don’t want Chris Kaman in fact I don’t want anyone from NO.

I’d rather our trade partners be the Kings and Wizards by the time the trade deadline comes around and even the offseason.

Reason being I’d like to get Mcgee from the Wizards probably will come with Blatche(don’t want), and maybe get Demarcus Cousins from the Kings possibly even Thompson.

I have a weird feeling that Josh will bolt on us to play with Dwight unless he Dwight comes here actually, but the only way Dwight comes here is if we get new ownership.

I know Cousins is a headcase, but I don’t think that’s the truth cause since they got that new coach over there haven’t heard much at all coming out of that area(Sacramento). Plus both him and Mcgee are young put them on a team like ours watch them excel to greater heights.

I think Jason Thompson would fit great here, and if we are left with Horford then we can dump Blatche for another SF.

This is assuming Marvin and Josh are gone everyone else would remain except maybe Collins.

@ Dwayne

Reason we get no respect because our ceiling is the 2nd round once Atlanta at least gets to the ECF then we can talk about that word.

Plus history has shown once the hawks gain that respect they seem to not know what to do with said respect.

i can agree with that….but philly and indiana have not done squat lately either….you ever wonder why the Hawks might look like if Avery J coached them? Respected head Coach might have given them a little more respect.

You mean retarded like you believing the Kings and Wizards are trading their best talent to Atlanta for our scrubs? Because we sure aren’t sending back anything they would want.

I don’t know we can talk about Mr. Avery J all day, but as it stands he’s not here, and LD I have to admit is actually growing as a coach so far it all depends on what happens this year if he’s here for the long haul or not.

One thing I do know is this year is a make or break for everyone included the 4 suppose Core players yes that does mean Marvin he might as well be.

Depending on how Josh Smith does the rest of this year he could be packing his bags too I’ve been a support and still will be, but sometimes he tries to do toooooo much and it’s very nerve racking.

Al Horford can’t say nothing cause he’s injured, but next year depending if we even get a good center soon. If he moves to PF and regress very badly or even stays the same in terms of stats he will be considered a little above average, but that’s about it.

Joe Johnson he’s basically like Jamal Crawford except with great defense, but also needs the ball in his hands to play on offense that’s one of his biggest problems I always notice.

Marvin well he’s just Marvin the duck whatever.

@ Drmaryb

I’m at least trying to throw out something besides a Kirk and Zaza for Kaman

Then reason I even mention both of them is because for one the Wizards have almost come out and said certain players are up for grabs it might not take as much to get Mcgee.

To get Cousins may take a bit, but it’s doable without giving too much like last year’s trade deadline decision. Plus the whole him being a headcase may cause him to look for other places to play.

This theory of Josh leaving to join Dwight Howard is hard for me to accept. Whoever signs Dwight, or retains Dwight, this summer, is going to immediately surround him with talent: Lakers (Kobe & Gasol), Nets (D Will), Dallas (D Will?? & Dirk), Bulls (Rose), Knicks (Melo) or whoever. Most of these teams will not have cap space. So, are we to believe that Josh is going to accept MLE money just to play with Dwight? I don’t see it happening. If Josh & Dwight want to play together, it is going to have to come about through trade(s).

You do make some really good points. At least you are trying … Like you said Josh is trying to do too much. But like you, at least he IS trying … as mind numbing as he may be at times – he is trying.

The reverse, I guess would be, NOT trying, riding the bench, being a cancer or just being plain ole’ lazy.
I’ll take trying over that any day of the week. Besides, I Josh is traded … Who will even TRY to protect the rim and rebound, and dish dimes, excite the fans with highlight dunks, and score embodied – all in one person.

That’s a lot of trying to replace.

Ray,

You bring up an interesting point in reference to Josh and Dwight joining the same team. I could see them in going to the Nets along with Deron. I think Nets will have cap space but not sure if they would have enough for the all three but i doubt if Josh gets a max contract. Maybe they could send the Hawks Lopez for Josh. Then we could move Al to PF and Lopez to C. Although I’m not a fan of sending Josh packing but that may not be such a bad deal for the Hawks.

Ray buddy, also I have no belief whatsoever that The ASKG and Sund will allow a blockbuster trade like Otis Smith did to his detriment to break up their bally-hooed core before the post season? Do you?

Sund made it clear that this is a make or break post season for these guys. Since they like drinking their own kool-aid … they are’nt gonna’ do squat! What did they do when Horford went down? That’s right: Nothing!

Even my Tequila bottle pours me a shot. If, they do anything at all, it won’t be until March’s trading deadline and, even then it will be nothing more than a drop in a bucket – never a splash!

I have no hopes and dreams of any trade big nor small. We may as well just stick to analyzing the wins and losses here.

I know this is one of those far out there ideas, but I just went through the trade machine Sacramento and the hawks and at least for the trade machine they would take Josh plus we get Cousins and Thompson which Cousins reminds me a lot of Josh except well he’s exclusive to at least near the paint if you catch my drift he won’t get outside that area(hopefully).

Funny enough I gave Wizards Marvin they gave us Mcgee and Blatche(again don’t want lol).

I’ve known of you guys for a while and agree with you Sund and ASKG are a piece of fine cut s***, but no matter how you slice it it’s still a piece of s***.

About that trade they say we stay about the same I found that one kind of funny cause I don’t believe that. Because we’ve seen Marvin enough to know that we get even just one good C whether it be Brook Lopez, Mcgee, or Cousins they’ll take what Marvin has done and triple that(okay at least double it).

Ray, as much as I would like to agree with you, I know there is no way in hail that Sund can go out and get Cousins with what we have to offer.
We aren’t in a position where draft picks have a lot of value. Also, I watched the Kings/Jazz last week, and both Cousins and Thompson are playing together and Thompson was a focus of the offense. I don’t see either going anywhere. How to use Evans is their questionable asset.
For JaVale, I have thought of a couple of ways, but Rashard isn’t coming here (and it would take Rashard to get JM) and Al isn’t going to be traded. It would take Josh and our record with Wiz trades are average at best. That’s not to say I don’t like Kirk though. He is an asset this current year and we can use that salary elsewhere if needed this summer.
Remember, we’re talking about Sund, who believes the less the do, the best you do….

KevinM honeybuns, I know they’re not EVEN gonna’ part ways with Cousins. They mad him top choice when they fired Coach Westfall, (how ironic : West and Fall) that’s where Paul was when he Fell.

Anyways, back to reality: the Hawks IS what is is. And, right now, that’s not to shabby. We just need a useful big man added. I’m sure Sund is dusting off something sitting on the couch right about now.

If the Knicks get Dwight & Turkoglu for the broke-down, uninsurable Amare Stoudemire & the overpaid Tyson Chandler, when the Knicks have no draft picks in the near future to add, then there’s a conspiracy going on somewhere. That’s an awful deal for the Magic.

MARVIN AND HINRICH FOR KAMAN

Ray

January 31st, 2012
5:18 pm

@ Drmaryb

Well I’d rather try something other then this Kaman thing being tossed around.
It’s not that he’s a bad player, but it’s how much people are willing to give up just to get him that’s my main problem.

You guys don’t think the Wizards won’t part ways with Mcgee, but I’ve told you some of those guys are actually up for grabs because of all the problems up there.

As for the Kings I do agree that one will take a lot, but if Josh is packing his bags I say ship him and Marvin to Kings give us Thompson, Cousins, a little filler.

As for the Knicks they can’t be fixed they screwed the pooch over big time for that franchise. Where they messed up at was having both Amare and Melo on the team at the same time while you only have one legit defender in Chandler.

Ray

January 31st, 2012

One more thing about Kaman people need to factor in what his age is before trying to give away Zaza so easily and even Kirk.

If we don’t do any trades though I’d rather us just bring back Benson at best what’s the worse he can really do and his first D-league stat line didn’t look so bad.

One thing I would like to see from Zaza and Marvin is ball security. Yep, the old football analogy of:

4 points of pressure. How hard can that be?
