Atlanta Hawks at Hornets: Game thread

Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.

“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”

Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.

“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”

Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.

“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”

* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.

Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.

The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

The 2nd Shift!

Can we name our bench that? They are worthy of a name now.

I recall some were knocking Willie Green before he got into basketball shape early in the season. Now Hinrich will need some time to do the same before he is able to return to form.

Good team win for the Hawks tonight. Getting a blowout win when your two All-Stars have subpar offensive games is definitely a good thing. The defense is the key though. As long as this team can defend like this, we can survive tough shooting nights.

9 boards for Joe. Pretty sure that’s a season high.

Hollinger’s automated power rankings are going to show some love for this margin of victory.

Good opp to rest the starters and let the bench get some minutes.

The Spurs subs are finishing the game vs. the Mavs….that is so rare in this league. Doesn’t mean they’ll win down 3 with 17.9, but interesting ploy by Pop.

Good opponent, we’re doomed more times than not.

We’re still out in round two, so calm down.

Willie green is different to flip and jcrossover. He doesnt need the rock, doesnt pound it. Rather you find him spotting up and he drives. He doesnt need touches

dr. mary, I am sorry about your loss. I know your neigborhood very well. One of my best friends was the pastor at Second Baptist Church on Hampton Street. I loved being a pastor in Aiken for nine years. Its a great town. I saw mayor cavanaugh in the pictures from the report. He is a good man and a good friend.

Popovich’s strategy doesn’t quite pay off. Spurs blow the final possession and lose by 1. Still a gutsy move on his part though, which could pay off in the long run for that team.

His bricks equate to TO’s and in the playoff’s that will kill your chances against the Elites….

yodaddy . . i agree

Josh really didn’t start shooting jumpers until the 3rd quarter. His play on defense and on the boards was outstanding tonight. Had he made his FTs, he would’ve had a decent statistical night for 23 minutes of play.

Najeh Davenpoop

When Josh was pulled out of the game in the 3rd quarter, the Hawks were up by about 15, and Josh led the team in +/- at +17. Josh didn’t reenter the game, the Hawks expanded the lead with Teague/Joe/Zaza in the game, and those three ended up with better +/-. Still, though, the point is Josh’s D had a major impact on this game, even with his subpar scoring night.
