Jeff Teague will start at point guard for the Hawks tonight against the Hornets. Teague said he felt “fine” despite the sprained ankle that limited him during Friday’s win against Pistons.
“Jeff is a go,” coach Larry Drew said before the game. “He was moving around on it pretty good yesterday. He hasn’t mentioned that it is bothering him to the point that we have to limit him. We’ll keep an eye on him. Right now, he is a full go.”
Drew said he would split reserve minutes between Kirk Hinrich and Jannero Pargo.
“He has been playing really well for us,” Drew said of Pargo. “That’s why we got him.”
Hinrich, who played 31 minutes against the Pistons after Teague left late in the third quarter, said he is working to regain form as quickly as possible.
“I want to get my game back,” Hinrich said. “I feel rusty and I just want to help any way I can right now and get my rhythm back.”
* Austin Barker, a 17-year-old high school student from Mississippi scheduled for a bone marrow transplant this week, was the guest of Hawks trainer Wally Blase Sunday.
Barker, who is at Tulane Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his father and two friends. He received a hat signed by the Hawks.
The non-profit organization Sunshine Kids brought Baker’s situation to Blase’s attention. Blase worked with the Hornets to organize the outing.

Hope the Hawks don’t sleep on this squad. They beat the holy hell out of the Magic a few days ago. Hopefully, we learned a lesson from Detroit.

I wonder if The Black Ninja got a cortico-steroid injection in that left ankle to eliminate swelling, which in turn kills the pain. I’m sure it’s sore on that deltoid ligament fibula-talo ligament. He will have absolutely no problem flying north – south, but lateral movement towards the outside, (right) will be tender, in my professional opinion. My specialty is in extremity care, (arms and legs).
I will be watching my boy very closely tonight. Jeff is an amazing athlete, IMHO.

Damn Ra’mon setting the bar on another planet or something. How bout the Hawks going for a win? Never mind who scores what. If JJ or Josh only score Al like numbers 12/9 Ill be happy as long as we win. Okafor Is not just going to give us the game. This is a road game and that in and of itself wont be easy.
Go Hawks!

A win today guarantees a winning road trip. The Hornets and Raptors both suck, so really if the Hawks take care of business this should be a 4-1 trip.
Looking at a bigger picture view, the Hawks went 7-3 in their first 10 games, and 7-3 in their second 10 games. Can they go 7-3 in the next 10?

I think 6-4 is more likely, but 7-3 is definitely possible.

Great to see the Hawks giving back to the community at large outside of ATL for that matter…We are giving up a lot of size and beef going up against Okafor – lets focus and play a solid 4 quarters and perhaps we will squeak out with an elusive Western Conference road win.

Breaking it down further, I think they go 5-1 in the first 6 (with the loss against either Memphis or Philly) and 1-3 in the last 4 (with the win over either Orlando or Miami).

I for one would not be….if there is any year to take advantage of playing together for so long, we should be beyond a 4 seed going forward. Al being out shouldn’t matter.

Kevin, FTPB, if you discount our players for their performances against a specific set of teams, don;t you need to know if the player you are trading for performs well against that (or a comparable) set of teams? If you’re not interested in the best years of our players, why are you looking at the best year of Kamen? It all seems apples and oranges to me.
But, IMO, the point is moot. Unless we’re talking about a 3 or 4 team trade, I doubt the Hawks have the assets needed to acquire a $14M expiring contract attached to a good and legit center.

“sweet Mary whats the deal with playing on pain killers? Do you recommend rest or play? Is this in Teague’s best interest? Should he just play through? Cant it get worse?”
____________
Excellent question Bob! What causes pain is inflammation in joints, what hold the joint capsules in place is ligaments. The ligaments are like plastic and they do not snap back like rubber bands. Because ligaments are avascular, (no blood supply) they are called “white meat” as is cartilage and tendons.
A joint capsule has fluid inside called synovial fluid, which makes the intra-capsules “squishy” and gives it ranges of motion.
The cortic-steroid does not kill pain in and of itself, so you don’t feel woozy … but, the steroids eliminates/reduce swelling. Swelling causes pain. Ice is the best thing for swelling in lieu of or, along with steroids. So, as long as there is no swelling there is no pain. However, it will be tender and sore because the ligament was stretched beyond it’s limit, (para-physiological space). That stretching in weight bearing joints is what causes joints to slide front to back, in this case left to right.
A good tape job will help, not to tight though because that will cut off blood and oxygen supply, causing swelling again. So the key here is to eliminate swelling more than anything. Jeff is a light weight and when he rolled that ankle he snapped it back quickly by falling down instead.
The brain is a powerful thing when falling, it protects and minimizes the severity of injury by falling down and away from contact, which in this case was the floor itself.
_________
Sorry Bob, I went into my zone and probably gave way TMI.
Excellent question, to answer it directly:
If Jeff can tolerate the pain threshold, he should play all out and, forget about the ankle itself or, just sit down.

Would Charlotte take Marvin for Dasagna Diop? We’d get an expiring contract and they would get a former champion Tar Heel. They currently have Tyrus Thomas playing out of position at SF.
