Atlanta Hawks at Spurs: Game thread

I’m not in San Antonio and neither is Chris Vivlamore. Bob Rathbun is there and he says Kirk Hinrich will play.

Here is a place for you to discuss the game. I will post my two cents when it’s over.

Coach Drew has to be able to make better decisions. Teague and Marvin actually played well. Teague’s assist numbers are so low because most of the guys fail to finish on his passes.

I didn’t watch the game, but I still can’t understand why LD didn’t put Collins in on Splitter. It’s another example of these guys not knowing their own personnel! I just don’t get why a fan can see this but paid coaches can’t!!

Only games I have been disappointed in the Hawks and thought they lose because of there energy, etc was Miami and Philly. Thats it. Thats an improvement from what they were. LD is a good coach and there buying in to his philosophy, trust that.

hittman jamillion – is that the average hawks blogger excuse now??? “but but look at the Lakers…”

This isnt your grandfather’s Lakers team. The 2011-2012 Lakers are a damn 1st or 2nd round team themselves, and now they are the “bar” for the Hawks. Just Pathetic!

It’s not all doom and gloom. The Hawks beat the Blazers without Al and beat the Bulls and Heat with him. Their ceiling isn’t any higher than the 2nd round, but they are better than last year. But they absolutely have to upgrade the center position. They cannot continue to roll with Zaza and Ivan playing all 48 minutes there. Against teams with quality depth inside like the Spurs, they will continue to get killed.

Hinrich for Nazr is a good one because Nazr is a very solid defender (underrated IMO) and OKC could use an experienced back-up for Westbrook. I think the only trade that works is with a team that needs a back-up PG as much as they want an expiring contract. But I would still wait until closer to the trade deadline before pulling the trigger on anything. Hawks would have been expected to lose in San Antonio if Horford were healthy and Kevin Willis was coming off the bench wearing his elbow pads.

ClassicHawks, Elite win or at least compete against good teams on the road. We get embarrassed. This team might get to the second round. Think about it, we have MARVIN and ZAZA as starters along with “Heartless” Joe and “Dumb” Josh. That type of GUTTER TRASH won’t win a championship.

Kirk for JaVale McGee — but this probably requires both the Hawks AND the Lakers sending a pick to Washington, which may not be worth it.

Can win a championship with a seasoned Teague, a Center and Al Horford. We need to buy in to Philosophy and play hard every game, which I have been seeing. Then next year we will be primed to win a title. Just my thoughts and hopes.

The 2011-2012 Lakers are a 1st or 2nd round exit themselves with their current roster and coach. Typical Hawks Bloggers making illogical excuses. The CORE HAS A 2ND ROUND CEILING !!!!

To the rest of the league the Hawks are a bunch of JOKES.

” I think the only trade that works is with a team that needs a back-up PG as much as they want an expiring contract.”

I have Kirk going to the Lakers in all those trades, with the Lakers sending a pick to the 3rd team and the 3rd team sending the Hawks a big man. The Lakers have an $8 million trade exception and a glaring need for a point guard. It makes too much sense for them not to be interested in Kirk.

Good teams beat us as bad as they would the Wizards or Bobcats. It’s embarrassing. The Hawks play a very DUMB brand of basketball, let by Josh Smith on the offensive in.

Joe, it doesn’t matter that Splitter is more agile because he’s still a soft Euro and Collins would get in his way. Soft Euros can become tough Euros against shorter competition, but very few if any get tough against physical competition. I don’t think Collins could have stopped him but its better than putting a 6′ 8″ guy against him.

Pop calls TO with 1 minute gone in 3rd quarter and benches FOUR STARTERS. At the time, they were up by 4. Hawks were down by 9 with their starters playing against mostly the Spurs second unit before LD brought in some bench players. They were still down by 9 when Josh received a technical foul. After that, game over as the Spurs went up by 15 to end the quarter. The startes lost the momentum when Pop put in Bonner, Splitter, Leonard and Joseph against OUR starters with 11:00 minutes left in the 3rd. Don’t fool yourselves, our starters didn’t play well as a unit. Had it not been for that 2nd quarter rush, this game would have been over much earlier.

All we needed tonight besides a pretend super star, and low IQ Power Forward’s poor shot selection was……………….Big Al’s jump shooting. Yeah thats the difference. Yeah Right.

People we just beat the Bucks on a JOSH SMITH 3 Pointers. Teams would take that from us all day (Josh Smith perimeter shots). This team is not working.

Hey Clueless Sheeple, We only do well, generally, against teams that play average to poor defense so then Joe can dribble dribble dribble in to the lane and do a floater and where Josh Smith can heave those ugly shots at the rim and pray they go in or get a put back. That BS isnt working against good teams, You people are nuts. Break up the core or bust.

Joe, Pop and his staff are better coaches and that was my biggest fear coming in this game. I believe LD is an upgrade over Woody, but that’s just because Woody didn’t make any adjustments during a game. LD and his staff still don’t have a great feel for personnel or for game flow. The Spurs aren’t a great team, which is probably why Miami destroyed them earlier this month, but they do have a great coaching staff. Hopefully we can really learn from this game.

Winning against the Bucks and Bobcats means squat when you get blown out in 3 of your last 4 games against good teams. Some of you are blind optimists and settle for less. Sorry, I’m not a supporter of the “well at least we can still beat the (insert scrub team here) crowd”

little for the hawks. Tim duncan hardly played and still got 11 boards.

The performance tonight is the “rule” for the Hawks against good teams, games where Josh Smith and Joe Johnson produce against these type of teams are the “exception to the rule”

Now watch all these friggin losers on the blog get excited when Josh Smith “stuffs the stat sheet” against the joke Hornets or even makes a 3 pointer the next time we play a decent team and start acting like it means something special. If they cant do it consistently and against good teams it doesnt mean squat. Worthless Core, Worthless Owners. Clueless Blog Fans.

Why did Hinrich take away minutes from Teague – JT0 was the only bright spot of the game. Hinrich understandably played horrible as far as turnovers went. Hinrich should have play the two today. Sund needs to trade him for a big ASAP. In the meantime Hinrich should see even more reduced minutes….Nothing else to see here, just another disgusting road loss to a great basketball team.

Folks are going to have to get over the hatred of Horford. He doesn’t have moves like McHale, but he’s still amongst the league leaders in FG % every year, he can get double-digit rebounds, and he plays smart on both ends. People who know basketball know his value. Without him, you’re depending on Jason freaking Collins, nothing else needs to be said.

Some of us criticize even when they beat bad teams because sometimes, it isn’t pretty. Like the Minnesota game. The bottom line is, just like every other team in this state, they haven’t proven they can beat the good teams regularly, and that’s why they don’t take the next step. The public has a right to complain because we see the ceiling and know when the teams aren’t ready for primetime.
