Atlanta Hawks at Spurs: Game thread

I’m not in San Antonio and neither is Chris Vivlamore. Bob Rathbun is there and he says Kirk Hinrich will play.

Here is a place for you to discuss the game. I will post my two cents when it’s over.

Brad,

Hinrich is not trashed but don’t think he should be playing PG right now, he should be playing SG and Pargo should have saw some minutes at PG.

Horrible effort tonight!!
Drew sucks!
Joe sucks!
Marvin garbage!
Kirk very slow & rusty!
Josh did not have the scorers mentality tonight…bad bad percentage!
Pargo DNP
Teague all alone!!!!

“Najeh what you think about kaman or mcgee”

I like both better than what we currently have at backup center, but McGee will require giving up too much in a trade and Kaman will put the Hawks over the luxury tax unless the Hawks give up both Kirk and Zaza.

Just how Drew’s opting to utilize Hinrich.

When you have no size, and your go to guys arent stars this is what happens. You people act shocked when Joe Johnson and Josh Smith dont perform against solid teams. No problem people Josh Smith will go for 21 pt, 10 rb, 6 ast, 2 blk against a scrub team like the Hornets and then you can declare him an allstar ready to lead the Hawks to the ECF.

I mean really. If i hear drew talking about the quit this time its not there fault its him not being a good coach. there is no way in hell the starters should not have started the fourth. matter fact the bench shouldn’t have been in the game at all. whenever they got in tonight the lead blew up.

I was gone, or I was gonna post, just rest Teague, JJ, and Josh tonite, only play ZaZa 10 minutes, and let the bench have a run. It would have been good for the bench and the starters get rest.

Oh well, enough of my crazy ideas.

Hinrich should have been playing beside Teague at some point in this game. But the only minutes he got was backing up Teague. I thought Drew was going to playing at SG also? Sounds like Drew wants him back at starting PG, wouldn’t surprise if he does.

Only the 12th shot for JJ

I know Josh was taking a lot of shots in the 1st half ( and especially in the 3rd quarter ), but JJ must look to score the ball more. 12 shots is unacceptable.

TEAGUE IS A MINUS 3 ON THE OVER AND UNDER. JOSH AND JJ ARE BEING DOUBLE TEAMED AND TEAGUE IS LEFT OPEN. HE SHOULD HAVE 50

HINRICH HAS 7 PTS IN 13 MINUTES.

LIKE I SAID BEFORE THIS IS ALL BIBBY’S FAULT THAT TONY PARKER BEAT US.

The Spurs is a well coached team and their players know how to play and their bench really hasn’t changed much. The Hawks are the opposite, they are going to struggle against teams that know what they want to do and how to do it. Like a lot of teams this season their isn’t enough practice days to work out the kinks and get guys more acclimated to one another. Larry Drew is trying to get Hinrich back on deck and guys like Pargo who are on a non guaranteed contract isn’t going to see a lot of minutes and he may get waived so that they can get a big man for the second half of the season.

“When you have no size, and your go to guys arent stars this is what happens. You people act shocked when Joe Johnson and Josh Smith dont perform against solid teams. ”

While Joe and Josh could have played better, the Hawks lost this game because a) they have no big man depth and b) LD is a dumbass who prioritized working Kirk into the rotation over winning the game. If they had a viable big coming off the bench and didn’t waste 12 minutes of competitive game time wishing and hoping that Kirk can stay in front of Parker and Joseph in his first game back, they would at least have kept it close with a chance to win.

Marvin almost matched Zaza and Josh in rebounds. Think that is a problem? LD talked about running guys off the 3-point line, that didn’t work out too well tonight. Spurs are better, smarter and smarter. And the kind of boring team many Atlanta fans would never appreciate.

We did have a chance, but it wasnt our night. Bottomline. Its like that some nights, even for the best. Lets see how they perform against the Pistons on Friday. Were not going to win them all. They was shooting 58% for God Sakes. Every time we lose yall act like the sky is falling. They competed tonight, just couldnt get any momentum.

I have the blame 40-60 players to coach. I mean if we went down like this and its because the starters didn’t start the 4th with fire fine. But we go down like this because the coach put the bench in and wouldn’t take them out once he saw the lead balloon back to 11. I mean it doesn’t take a genius to know my starters kept it close let me ride them.

Damn shame we’re about to lose this game by 30. Not mad that we lost, because it’s always tough to win in San Antonio.

But this was a 50 – 48 game early in the 3rd, when Popovich called that timeout.

Since then, the Spurs have outscored us 46 – 25
