Atlanta Hawks at Bucks: Game thread
7:56 pm January 23, 2012, by Michael Cunningham
Milwaukee–Zaza Pachulia is the starter at center. “He’s been playing well lately,” Larry Drew said. “He has played well against the Bucks. So we elected to go with him.”
- Zaza has been as productive and efficient as usual but his minutes have fluctuated. “It’s hard, but you have to be a pro,” he said. “I’ve been in a situation where I was getting mad previous years. But you learn one thing, you can’t control it or make it better. All you can do is be professional. I am not worried about that. I’ve been in the league long enough to realize my role and what I can do, where my strength is, what I can do for a team.”
- Included among the keys on Milwaukee’s pregame board: “Match Pachulia’s energy.”
- Jeff Teague on Drew keeping him as the starter when Hinrich returns: “That feels real good to hear. But I really can’t control it too much. I’ve just got to go out there and play hard and keep playing my game.”
- Scott Skiles on how the schedule has affected the Bucks: “We’re trying to be smart and and build in rest and have the most energy we can for the game and at the same time prepare properly. It’s very difficult to do. It’s one of the reasons we feel like our defense hasn’t been what it normally would be. Hopefully we’ve gotten far enough into the season so it’s something we can be more consistent with.”
- The Bucks ground down the Heat to win a low-possession game last night in Miami after doing the same to the Knicks Friday in a high-possession game in New York.
- Skiles though the offensive execution was good at Miami: “We just didn’t make shots. I think we are moving in the right direction but that doesn’t necessarily show up when you shoot 35 percent.”
- Like always, shot selection will be key for the Hawks. “When we e talk about playing on the road, we talk about playing with a smartness,” Drew said. “We can’t get seduced into taking a bunch of jump shots. We have to move the ball from one side of the floor to the other and attack the basket. Where we’ve gotten in trouble, particularly on the road, is settling for too many jump shots.”

Jeff Teague keeps bobbing his head around during the interview looking like Eli Porter’s distant cousin.

At least Joe is trying to drive into the paint to get his hot going, unlike the other players. *Cough cough* Josh the terrible.

Hawks should get some sleep tonight, unless Josh ordered a fleet of Hummers to “ride around and get it” in Chi-Town!
After all, “Everybody knows there ain’t nuttin’ to do in Milwaukee.” LOL! Hawks and Joe and Vlad better come out HOT in the 3rd or, we may come out with a loss fellas.

They can’t play Vlad in the second half if he is matched up on Ilyasova. Ilyasova was killing him. Vlad has the worst plus/minus for the Hawks, Ilyasova the best for the Bucks.
Josh has 8 points 8 boards 2 dimes zero turnovers and leads the Hawks in plus/minus, but haters keep hating.

Ha Ha Ha Ha! I was thinking the same thing, Najeh. I think he is just shy personality wise. Very laid back when he’s not ballin’ … “Walk it Out!”

Zaza was not bad. Would be nice if he knocked down a couple more of those open mid range jumpers, but can’t expect him to be Al Horford.

Bench needs to step it up. Three turnovers and one rebound for the entire bench. That one rebound means the Bucks are getting easy shots against our bench.

Ha Ha I posted Josh’s quote BEFORE I read any comments. Good to see we are all on the same FAN page. We are gelling – my cohorts. LOL!
Maybe, we came all come off the bench on a 3rd string roster. I can be the cheer leader – I got NO skills whatsoever.

Speaking of Bogut, Nique said “You would think a guy of his size would average more rebounds”
Terrible start to the quarter for the Hawks though. its like LD and Teague want to make sure JJ gets his shots…

Hawks are going to have a hard time winning a lot of road games if Joe plays this bad on offense. Or Josh or Teague for that matter. All three of them need to be at least decent for the Hawks to have a chance on the road.

Does Marvin have ANY upper body strength? Any? His shot gets blocked by the rim more than anyone I know. No body control whatsoever. Push ups?
Maybe he can borrow a push up bra from Boris Diaw.

Here is an unconventional thought. Sub for JJ, and bring him back in when the bench players come in. Just to give him a different look, since he cant seem to get it going.

No Jamal, and no Al Horford….Marvin still hovering around 10 ppg. And it ain’t about “defining his role”. Don’t gets blocked by the rim and doesn’t hit open shots. That’s the story.

Joe has to look to finish at the rim strong, why is he kicking it back out for a potential jumper..?
