Atlanta Hawks at Sixers: Game thread

Philadelphia–The Hawks are using the “big” lineup with Jason Collins at center. Larry Drew said that before Spencer Hawes (Achilles) so it could change before tip off.

  • Then again, maybe it won’t change since the “big” lineup apparently has become the standard lineup. “That’s the regular lineup,” Drew said. “For right now that will be pretty much how we go. That was basically the lineup last year when we went bigger. Right now that will be the starting lineup.”
  • Why does Drew like that lineup? “With Jason, we really are able to play a lot more at home in the post, particularly against big guys who do have a strong low-post presence,” Drew said. “We play them head up. He gives us a little bit more size, a little bit more physicality at that position. Jason, he is a smart pro. He knows how to play his position. He does a good job playing individual and team defense. We all know with him in the lineup it’s defense-first with him. ”
  • Drew on the fluctuating minutes for his reserves: “That is something I do have to manage. Given what our schedule is, guys are going to be in a situation where maybe one night they play more than others. One thing I don’t want to do is wear guys out given what our schedule is. [Vladimir Radmanaovic] hasn’t played a lot the last couple games, I’ve spoken with him, and that could be a plus for him now with this stretch coming up he will be a little bit more rested. Minutes will vary particularly with the way our schedule is. ”
  • Vlad Rad: “It all depends on how you look at it. Knowing that we have such a compressed schedule, it can be a positive thing if you look at it that way. But we are all competitors here. We like to be on the court and contribute but obviously not everybody can play. It is up to the coaches to make decisions. We have to fit in that system.”
  • Vlad Rad on players preferring consistency in playing time and roles: “It’s easier when you know when you are going to play and how long you are going to play. When you have certain pattern, it’s easier to prepare. You just sometimes have to deal with different things. Fortunately for me I’ve been in different situations through the course of my game. I know how to deal with it and take positive things out of it.”
  • Drew on how he decides who finishes games: “I look at the matchups. If we have a group that is in a rhythm I will try to ride that, but I look at the matchups and how the game is flowing. We are a team that, at times, we get stagnant with the starters and the reserves. What I’ve tried to focus on a lot more is focus on matchups that are in there in the fourth quarter just to make sure we don’t leave ourselves open to where they have an advantage on us. We have to make sure start of fourth quarter we get off to a good start.”
  • Drew on All-Star consideration for Josh Smith: “I can’t see why he wouldn’t be. He’s impacting both ends of the floor. His numbers are up offensively but defensively he’s done a good job guarding bigs and guarding smalls. He is playing with a high energy. The level he’s playing, he should be considered as an All-Star. His discipline he’s shown over the summer with losing the weight, you can see his energy level has gone up since losing that weight.”
  • Tracy McGrady left the Blazers game because of cramping. He’s good to go tonight. Drew on T-Mac’s impact: “You put him in his sweet spot, he can still make plays. He’s a phenomenal passer and still with his length he causes problem. We have been trying to use him in different places on the floor, put the ball in his hands and take advantage of the matchup problems teams have against him because of his size.”

Terrible loss tonight. Hawks gave this one away. However, Hawks aren’t going to win ever game.

Man it must suck to be a Knicks fan. They lost to the Bucks at home. OUCH.

Niagra Falls!

IF I wanna’ pay to see something fall? I will buy a $700 round trip plane ticket to Niagra Falls. But, I will not pay $50 to see MARVIN fall down every time he get’s his shot blocked by a point guard from behind his behind.

His behind alone – should keep a PG off his back!
_____________

I can see 5 scoreboards on ny 13″ TV with one eye closed. Hella, my TV is so small I have to close one eye just to see Marvin’s azz!
_______________

Here’s my point! People are struggling to keep their homes off the courthouse auction steps in Atlanta. Once the mortgage is paid, then the choice is do you pay the $80 light bill or pay $80 to go see a blacked out scoreboard and the Hawks?

IF Gearon can’t BUY a center when his AS CENTER is gone for the season, then don’t get mad at poor ole’ me for squeezing my coins!!! Stupid is as Stupid does … And, I for one am NOT stupid. This game is over and I warm, boozed up and farting in my new SNUGGIE – I’m goode!

Losing to the Bucks is not the low point to this season for Knicks fans.

When the crowd was chanting “We want Woodson”, it’s time to reassess everything.

Losing a game isn’t what disturbs me about this team. It’s just that when they simply lope up and down the court, don’t give any effort on defense and see Josh lope down the court and chunk up 5 top of the key shots in the 3Q (0-5 result) – THAT’s what sucks.

Give 100% and I’m behind you win or lose – but play (and coach) like you simply don’t care, I just can’t see playing the “faithful fan”.

I’ll guaran-damn-tee you one thing. I never saw a Hubie Brown coached Hawks team play with no heart.

One final thing – a team really has to have a face of the franchise, and this squad doesn’t and hasn’t one since they traded Dominique. The same franchise that traded Pistol Pete (for Dean Meminger, Bob Kauffman and a 1st round pick they didn’t even sign, losing David Thompson to the ABA).

So Sund can at least go to sleep knowing there have been worse GM’s for the Hawks, but far from the top.

” the venom from some folks leads me to believe even Rodgers or Brees would get criticized here because Vick is their hero and they will not let go even though it was his fault that any of this happened. ”

I wouldn’t judge the fan base as a whole from the people who take the time to post here. Most people who post here are going to have stronger opinions than the general fan base. The average fan is going to support a winner regardless of what they look like.

AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICES THAT DREW NEVER TAKES THE BLAME FOR ANYTHING? LACK OF HUSTLE, POOR FUNDAMENTALS, UNDISCPLINED SHOT SELECTION (MOSTLY BY JOSH)… ALL OF THAT COMES DOWN TO COACHING. BUT DREW IS ALWAYS POINTING FINGERS. THAT’S NOT THE WAY TO GET THEM TO RUN THROUGH A WALL FOR YOU, DREW.

I can understand LD being p-ssed at a 3rd quarter let down just one day after he talked about not having 3rd quarter let downs, but I don’t see how airing that out to the media is a productive strategy. A good coach keeps those criticisms in house. It’s not like he’s in Flip Saunders’ position where his team quits every night.

If its obvious that Marvin does not have it in the first half, then in the 3rd quarter, I would start Ivan instead of Marvin, and play Josh at SF. However, LD has to get Josh to stay away from the jumpers even if he is playing SF.

Regrads if its just one game, they are a team that you might meet in the playoffs and you don’t want to be on the losing end like this.

I think that Drew is right and everybody quit including him, and believe me I don’t that it will make your team better when you keep losing games like this. I think that something needs to happen, seriously

Implants!

LaStarya’s got back! Kim Kardashian got implants! Perhap’s LaStarya can get that spot on a Reality TV Show?

What IF we put a thong on Marvin and send him down to the Lemon Peel, (an old Atlanta strip club we used to go to, to see the fellas). I might cash my check, pay $50 and make it rain downtown.

I heard Marvin was standing erect now? I can’t tell when, he keeps falling down in the paint. Imma’ give him Detlef Shremp’s old monicker: “Dutch Boy in The Paint”. Most players who get their shot blocked don’t fall down like that. The least Marvin can do is run back on defense and make a play on his offender, at least give a hard retaliatory foul, if not a block of his own. Where is the fire, passion, desire and pride?
