Timberwolves at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • I’m not at the game tonight. The AJC’s Chris Viviamore is on the scene.
  • At shootaround today Marvin Williams (ankle) told C-Viv he plans to play tonight. Tracy McGrady (back) is out and is shooting for a Monday return.
  • Larry Drew said the Hawks are in no hurry to make a roster move in the wake of Al Horford’s injury.

big ray, love was the best big man when ivan was not around. he nullified love on so many occasions tonight and made him work for everything and even put him on his arse a few times. it was a pleasure to watch the big guy get his quick hands out on the ball and his quick feet under guys in a flash. he also did just that to bosh the other night when he went off on everyone else. i got to give it to ivan, watched it from the phil tonight and the guy was huge in the comeback and steady enough to make the free throws when the game was on the line. very cool customer and if i were ld, i’d have him as a starter in a flash.

mr green was solid. now why was sloan in there at all? and still marvin cant get the court time with al injured.

And props to JJ. he made some big shots down the stretch. That is what we need from him when we play the big boys.

Just Joe,

Hawks do not need to make a trade right now. Just cut one player (Sloan or Stackhouse), and sign a center off the scrap heap.

I cant help but wonder if LD and the players have confidence in Marvin.

Big ray,

I hope you flipped back to the Hawks down the stretch in the 4th, because the Broncos are not doing anything….

Ron I dont think we missed a beat. Zaza did a double double in Al’s place last night and Ivan did a double double tonight. Sorry if this hurts your feelings but Al who? 12 pts 8 rebounds is not that hard if you consider more than 50 people do it every night in the nba. Al’s a nice guy and that was a nice picture of his wife’s camel toe that was posted.

But Zaza and or Ivan do better than Al because they not only rebound and put up 10/12 pts. they play defense and fight. We probably would have lost this game if Al plays because he would not have played defense down the stretch and would have been on the perimeter rather than the wing. .

Hey, why was time talking about a player who is not a factor. Maybe next year, or the year after he will be a better player. That injury is not easy to come back from. It may be years if ever that he can get back to 12/10 level.

In the mean while I like this team and its chemistry. you have to admit this team is a fighter and they get along very well, now.

The HAWKS pulled one out tonight because of good play from the 2nd unit. The starters should review the game film and find out what unselfish play and hustle looks like. Ivan is giving the HAWKS some “HEART”, I hope he does not pick of the bad habits of selfish play that tends to consume a few of the starters. Good comeback win against a team that we should have walked over. I don’t know if that is a good sign or bad one. Toronto is next, a game we should win but who knows. Sometimes watching the HAWKS is like shooting craps, it becomes a crapshoot.

It is obvious that the Association set up the schedule to favor the Heat. One thing they did not schedule were injuries. Looks like this will be one of those seasons Wade will struggle to remain healthy.

OK, TS, how about commenting on how according to you, one of the criticisms of Al is that he had more turnovers than blocks. D12, who you keep harping for the Hawks to trade for, has over 500 more turnovers than blocks for his career.

So why, if it’s a detriment when Al does it, it’s ok when Dwight does?

Just back from the game. A shame the team played so miserably for close to 3 quarters, but as exciting of a 4th quarter as I can remember.

Nothing better than a comeback win thanks to 4 bench players and Jeff Teague.

Kind of makes up for blowint that 18 (or whatever it was) point lead in Chicago.

MC, when was the last time the Hawks won after trailing by as many as 18 in the 2nd half?

The Hawks are good enough to make the playoffs because teams like New York, Boston and Philadelphia aren’t as good as people think.

The Hawks aren’t going to make a trade because they don’t have the assets and they’re not going to take a bad contract for the sake of getting a better than average big man. I wouldn’t be surprised If they cut both Sloan & Stackhouse so that they can sign a Dan Gadzuric or Fesenko ..both dudes are big and should help on the boards.

The Key to the Hawks success is Tracy McGrady & Kirk Hinrich.

Tracy has being playing a passive aggressive role for the Hawks not pressing or really looking for his offense and he’s looking to set guys up and get them in the flow. I’m curous to see what he can do when Larry Drew gives him more minutes and a green light to play his game.

The health of Hinrich will also play a role because he’s a decent shooter and he can play lock down defense at either guard spot.

Just arrived – had to watch the game on tape.

How come Kaman & Okafor were going head to head with Love
[in the game prior to our game] I think / thought Love was / is a [4].
Therefore, since he is a [4] and probably insists on playing the [4]
I reckon he no longer is viable.
I imagine since he plays the [4] ……………….
he must be a sissy, & or gay, plus he wears diapers.
One more thing – I’ll bet his daddy told him to [do it].

I sure am glad that Kevin Love don’t play for the Hawks.

You know, we get TMac and Hinrich back, maybe get Przybilla to give us 10-15 minutes per night, we could still be in good shape with this team. Green, Vlad, Ivan, those guys been playin’ some hoop lately off the bench.

Gwinnett Fred

January 14th, 2012

Also, nice move by the Hawks to have Hinrich signing autographs before the game in the Team Gear store.

I will say they at least appear to be trying to make the game day atmosphere a little better this year. One thing I just don’t understand is so many people arriving almost at halftime. I was in section 106 and at the end of the first quarter, there were maybe 50 people in the whole section and about another 100 came in during the 2nd quarter. Those are $200 seats. If I’m there (which I was fortunately enough to be tonight), by God, I’m there for every last second!

My biggest kudo to Drew, other than piecing the bench together nicely for the comeback, was benching Smith as long as he did after yet another series of bricks, including missing all his foul shots. That guy has about lost me as a fan.

LD is doing a Good Job..

The Hawks play better DEFENSE.
Better OFFENSE.
The team has an Offensive and defensive plan.
He has put together a BENCH…and uses them.
He makes adjustments at the half.
He rides the hot player.
The team is tougher Mentally…

I would cross Pryzbilla off the list. The Blazers have been calling him, and he hasn’t signed with them. i dont think he would sign with us.

As for the Hawks;
even an old cynic like myself has to give the team some props tonite.
Since this core has been together – they would have lost tonite’s game
in previous years.
We must begin to realize that LD can coach.
How good LD becomes long haul – who knows ?
However, right now it’s easily discernable that he is growing [as a coach].

* -right now I would not trade LD for an unknown quantity-

This team is becoming more and more, fun to watch !

That may be true sir, but lets not talk about Al. Hes messed this team up for the last time. Hes not playing now. Lets focus on winning with the squad we have, which may be better because they are more willing to do what ever it takes to win, and not whine about playing their favorite position. Imagine if Ivan whined and said Hey, Im a forward not a center I dont want to play unless you put me where I want to play, dont you know that an attitude like that will cause issues in the locker room?

I have been wondering about the possibility of a
Marv + filler and or 2nd round pick – to Sac-Kings trade;
that would bring:
JJ Hickson + Francisco Garcia – back to the Hawks.

The $ work getting Sac-town to go for it ?

I’ve been watching film on Hickson;
undersized but young and fearless !

Then would have a young [4,5] & could use Josh ? perhaps as bait …
after the lottery – to get high enough in the draft to pick Thomas Robinson.
-just a thought-
