MattP – yes, we can say we should open the whole roster to trade, but I’m not letting JT go anywhere. He is the one area we have little backup for and Sund/LD have no alternative for that spot.

Howard would want Josh (one would assume) to be on his team, and no way Orlando takes JJ’s contract. They’ve already used the amnesty card.
So we would be left with Al, Marvin, Teague, and ZaZa as trade possibilities. Orlando doesn’t want picks so much they say.
So take any 3 of the above for Howard? Sound good?

ok – we all know the Hawks were horrible last night and you all want to rip apart the team – funny, but just the other day you all were singing their praises when they beat Miami.
Relax a little bit – it was only one game early in the season. The Hawks will bounce back.
However, the team remains flawed and inconsistent – I don’t see the current group going very deep into the playoffs.

LD needs to quit playing games.
If someone misses an assignment sit they azz down!
If they ain’t playing hard sit they azz down!
If they walking up and down the floor sit they azz down!
Drew needs to start Willie Green, Ivan, and Mcgrady next game. Marvin, Jsmoove, and Joe need a reality check. Problem with them is they spoiled. They making all this money and they don’t feel like they have to play hard anymore. Somebody needs to check them right away.

Trojan,
I agree 100% with what you said about Howard. I would like for him to agree to his player option and if he walks after that let him. We finally had a superstar in Atlanta! If ASG really wanted to try get Howard to stay they will need an experienced coach and not another assistant. I know he said Smith will be the only reason for him to sign extension with Atlanta but Smith will be the reason Howard can’t get anywhere in Atlanta.

The Hawks do have a cap wizard. You got to if you want to stay under Luxury Tax as bad as the group formerly known as ASG does.
In our worst case scenario, assuming no major trades, 5 years from now we have JJ and Al on the hook for a combined 36 million. Joe will be 34 and Al 29. If the cap is somewhere near where it is now, you still got room for: Another max player at 18 mil per year or so along with a 7-8 mill per year guy, and a couple of 2 mill per year (or a 4 mill per) pieces. Or a couple of 12 mill per year types to go along with JJ and Al, and a 5 mill player and pieces. We are set up cap wise for the long haul really.
Chicago and Miami better win quick – because both their cap situations stink after this year, and especially in 2 years.
And I don’t think we let Josh walk for nothing in Free Agency. We either sign him or trade him. He’s up after next year.

How do you all think Barkley would evaluate his career? I’m sure the reason he never won a ring has nothing to do with him. I’m not pissed about what he think about the Hawks. I’m pissed that a Natinal Network would employ a Dumb ass like him to announe a game. He has no class at all and he is wrong 99% of the time. Gavelle Mcgheeeeeee!

I can’t stand Dwight Howard. I think he is a big p#ssy. But, that rumored deal might as well happen. Will have to tolerate Dwight for a few games, then he does not re-sign. The best part would be 2 of the 3 (Josh, Al, or Joe) would be gone. That alone would be reason to celebrate.

The Hawks were the 10th team in NBA history to score a goose egg in an overtime period. Is this about effort or what?

Section 303 – I hear your frustration. Yea, I’ve been a big JJ fan, but I’m just about done. And Josh’s mental lapses and ill fated J attempts, and Al’s just overall drop off – seems content with his game, but am glad he’s sticking closer to the basket – I’m about done with this core myself.
Marvin, Jeff – ditch them all and let’s start over with TMac, Ivan, ZaZa, and Willie, and some good, solid young talent that may have a higher ceiling than this group.
Maybe trade Jeff and Marvin for Stephen Curry – Al for Javale Mcgee – JJ for Deng – Josh for Cousins. Go from there. I might as well stay mad at Cousins just as well as Josh.
Now the above is just rambling, please nobody with the fantasy trade tirade – just a frustrated fan. I’ll be fine.

Ivan Johnson played hard last night because he wasn’t spoon feed. He had to earn his spot in the NBA by going to the Developmental League. He appreciates the opportunity to play in front of a national audience and he gave 100% last night.
Ivan Johnson The Hawks Nation Salutes You
On the other hand Joe Johnson, Marvin, Jsmooth, and Horford I turn my back on yall. Yall are a disgrace. If I was the owner I would have suspended yall for that effort last night.
The problem with yall is that your young and rich and don’t give a F. Your only in ATL to get a check and you don’t care what kind of effort you put forth.
People are spending their hard earned money in hard times to come see yall play. Some people really don’t have the money but they want to treat they kids to a Hawks game. You can at least show your gratitude by hustling and playing hard each possession.

START IVAN JOHNSON!!!!!!!
START IVAN JOHNSON!!!!!!!
At least play him BEHIND Josh Smith! I thought Ramanovic would give us a reliable 3 point shot, but I have no idea what’s wrong with his shot this year. It’s not just missing, it’s b-b-b-b-b-b-brrrrrick-ing!!
REALLY hard. Not a good look. I’m talking Josh Smith BRICKING.
If LD were a smart coach he would play IVAN THE TURRIBLE behind Josh. Ivan WOULD CHANGE THIS TEAM. It’s common sense. I’ll be wildly frusturated if IVAN is not played more.
TRACY MCGRADY should close games for us. I can’t believe he wasn’t in ANY of the overtimes and MARVIN WILLIAMS was in all of them!! Just bad rotations, bad free throw shooting, MISTAKES. Simple mistakes. Unusual mistakes. I was temporarily depressed from these terrible losses, but OUR BENCH AND DEFENSE LOOK GREAT, FOR SOME REASON not our offense. NO starters are doing good offensively. When we get good offensively again, we’ll be dangerous!
I like Willia Green now. When Hinrich comes back, WILLIE will be great off the bench. Our bench is CRAZY this year!!
Hinrich Pargo
Willie Green
T-Mac
Ivan Johnson Vlad
Zaza Collins
These starters could win games ON THERE OWN!!! Couldn’t say that in years past.
NOW ALL WE NEED IS FOR THE FREAKING STARTERS TO STEP UP!!!! THERE’S IS NO WAY A GROUP OF MEN CAN BE THIS PATHETIC FOR A WHOOOOLE SEASON!!!!
I’d rather have THE ATLANTA DREAM STARTING 5 PLAY OUR GAMES RIGHT NOW, AT LEAST THEY HAVE HEART AND GET TO THE FINALS, ESPECIALLY ANGEL MCCOUGHTRY!!!!!! She wouldn’t allow this effort! Put Mccoughtry’s brain inside of Joe Johnson’s head, and he’ll average 26 points easily!!
We really need to beat the Bobcats man, this is just terrible right now. But there is hope, it’s still early.

The True #7, the answer to your question is no. That would involve caring and accountability. There are no players on this team that possess either quality. They would rather make excuses about “learning from it”, or “lack of energy”, or “I’m tired of guys always looking to me for energy”…pick your excuse.
I hate this team. And, I hate 80% of the players on it. There has to be a little red button somewhere in Philips Arena. ASG or Sund need to push it and blow this team up. Only, ASG/Sund need to make sure they’re in the room when the explosion happens.
Just save Ivan and T-Mac. The rest can go somewhere else.

Losing to the Tornto Raptors last night, doesn’t upset me….
It is the NBA….Sh!t happens.
Would I like more REGULAR SEANSON consistency, YES!…As long as we make the PLAYOFFS, I am GOOD.
All I want to know is, if we give MAXIMUM EFFORT in the PLAYOFFS are we GOOD enough to BEAT the BULLS or the HEAT. They are the TEAMS we have to BEAT, to get to the ECF or the FINALS…What I have seen so far, I would say YES.

So glad I didn’t stay awake for that. Our starters are so unimpressive.
Barkley was killing us from the 1st Quarter and his compadres weren’t arguing with him about the ineptitude of the loveable, hapless Hawks. How embarrassing and how typically true. That’s why I turned it off. He was right. I owe Charles for the shut eye. Reggie said Howard doesn’t want to come here. If that’s true, then we know who we are. A first round playoff team, maybe.

Rufus1, normally I like to read posts like the one you just made when I’m frustrated with the Hawks. Helps to focus on the more important things, like the playoffs. However, I think this is different. These guys have just been together too long. Guys like Josh have been enabled, allowed to halfa$$ and take bad shots. Guys like Joe are just finished. Guys like Al are just being exposed as not very good.
It’s different. This season is going to be a disaster.
I know some of you (and with good reason, since it has happened so many times in the past) are saying things like “watch they’ll win the next two because that’s what they always do.” I don’t agree. This is different. These guys are finished. They won’t rally. They won’t respond. They’re going to continue to get worse. They’re done.

“The captains on this team need to step up” – LD
“You can’t be an average Joe on this team” – Reggie
“Its amazing that a team that has been together this long has to be told by the coach they need to grow up” – Charles
Most starts together – 223 Josh/Joe/Marvin/Al , 2nd in the league to Boston.
“This team reached its ceiling 3 years ago” – Charles
Charles just makes too much sense.

These players needed a different voice 5 years ago. We got the Inside Man -Drew instead. We gave the keys to the Bentley to an inexperienced head coach. What does one expect but a two year lab experiment. You’re asking an unbalanced seasoned core to break in a “Rook – Coach?” And, to do that inside a small window of opportunity for themselves as a group?
Reciprocity screams: you get out what you put in. It is all relative: the Hawks performances reflects that of it’s ownership group and their goals for this team!

Terrible display from the Hawks. No energy at home on national television and getting abuse by Barkley and the Hawks kept proving his point. JSmith does not appreciate each possession, bad passes, missed dunks, terrible shot selection. He should have sat out immediately after the lazy inbound pass. No accountability. JJohnson has the weakest 20 per game avg. JJ has no energy, lackadaisical defense, looks miserable and then missed free throw that would have won the game. Finally Teague work on your defense, you are fast, fight through the screens and to be a starting NBA PG YOU MUST MAKE YOUR FREE THROWS. If Hinrich was healthy you would have been sitting and you have all the upside in the world. Make free throws, Chicago and Miam 2 L’s because of Free Throws. Those will come back to haunt the Hawks. Gearon should have been in the locker room calling out each player. That is no way to build a fan base… play with passion, people will come.

It was clear like water that this would happen.
The culprit is LD for not riding the subs ALL THE WAY.
You should never expose yourself to a loss against MIA without Wade and Lebron. He should have clearly sent the message that due to the back-to back-to back he would also not use the starters.
That way, you would have had guys motivated on the floor instead of our usual bunch of whinners and sleep walkers.
Two losses in a row from the FT line. Sad.
I bet that NO ONE would be worried if the loss had come with a combination of 2 or 3 starters with any of the group consisting of Pargo, Green, Rad, Ivan, McGrady and Zaza on the floor and that, regardless of their production during the preceding minutes would have been the way to finish to go on the second half.
If we had lost, LD could simply said: “I know that no one should throw a game away, but given that MIA was 2 men down, I wanted that our ballclub experienced the same with two of our main guys out major minutes as well”.

I still say Barkley went into the game last night intending to kill the Hawks. He was going to look for every chance to rip them. If the Hawks had played great, he would have said something like “yeah, but……” He was going to kill them no matter what.
I agree with some of what he said, but it gets overshadowed by the fact that he clearly had an agenda. There are other teams that have been way worse than the Hawks for a long time. He says nothing about them.

Loses happen. OFFENSE is inconsistent. The DEFENSE COMMITMENT has been consistent this year. We have had some lapses late in games, but I think that will improve with TRUST and UNDERSTANDING.
