Wizards at Atlanta Hawks: Game thread

  • Zaza Pachulia said he woke up today with soreness in his left shoulder. He tested it before the game and said he’s good to go. Pachulia doesn’t remember suffering an injury. He went to the doctor this afternoon and was told it’s tendinitis.
  • Jeff Teague (ankle) is in the lineup. “He didn’t complain about any problems,” Larry Drew said. Kirk Hinrich (shoulder) and Donald Sloan are inactive. Mo Evans (knee) is out and Jan Vesley (hip) is not on the trip for Washington.
  • Jordan Crawford is back at Philips Arena for the first time since the Hawks traded him to the Wizards. He said there’s no extra motivation against his old team: “I’m always extra.” He did allow that there could be some spirited conversations with good friend Teague. “If it calls for it, I will definitely trash talk.”
  • Drew said his main concern vs. the Wizards is controlling John Wall in transition. “He’s one of the fastest guys in the league,” Drew said. “We have to get him corralled. We’ve had problems with him in the past. He’s kind of the head of the snake for them.”
  • Drew on the thing he liked the most about last night’s W at New Jersey: “Their energy and defensive activity. We’ve been preaching for the longest about being a better defensive team.”
  • The Hawks said last night’s telecast on SportSouth earned a 2.82 rating. The highest-rated game last season earned a 2.68 rating.

Don’t know what the complaints are about Teague. He’s not getting assists, but he’s also not turning the ball over and missing a bunch of shots. He puts pressure on the defense and doesn’t make things real easy for Wall.

I am Soulstar,

LOL…I like the way Marv is playing. He’ll never justify his draft slot, but that is all about who picked him at that slot. But I’ll say this much – he is looking very much like a guy who wants to be very prominent on this team, instead of forgettable.

Where’s Buddy Grizzard ? The man owes me a crow sandwich. Looking so far like he was right, and I was wrong.

A bench of Hinrich, Green, Tmac, RadMan, and ZaZa looks damn good.

But of course if phil didn’t have his cosmopolitan, he’ll still find things to b*tch about.

in terms of offensive production, this game is almost identical to last night’s so far, minus the 3 point percentage. Defense has been great as well, it’s just that the Wizards aren’t as bad as the Nets. If they keep up this tempo through the rest of the season, the Hawks will easily be a 4th seed if not better as they will take care of the worser teams easily, and maybe throw in some good games against the better teams as well.

You think Teague will start when Hinrich returns? Is this his team from now on? Just wondering what people’s inputs are on this

Marvin is the leader vs under .500 teams.

Let’s see what he does next week, but him getting 6 FTs in a half is excellent. I would like to see Joe get 6 FTs a half.

Agreed. I never expect him to live up to that spot. But if he can at least play like a lottery guy, he’ll never hear my mouth again.

We should not be challenged at home against from a team like this. This should be an easy blow out. If this team challenges us at home some body is going to get traded. Period!

Runner,

Good point. In fact, it’s obvious that the Wiz are more potent than the depleted Nets. But we can also examine why. Deron Williams didn’t look very motivated last night, but Wall always looks hungry. Wiz have Nick Young off the bench. Who do the Nets have?

There was a lot of hype during training camp about Marvin feeling better and TMac feeling better, and even as a usually optimistic fan, I believed none of it.

Gonna need a toothpick for those crow feathers as well.

I will never understand how the Hawks fail to connect the dots between games. Vlad-Rad scores 17 last night and gets a single FGA in the fist half of this game. Why not feed him tonight? Oh well, Hawks have a double-digit lead despite little bench production (other than TMac).
