Atlanta Hawks at Nets: Game thread

Finally, it’s time for real basketball. The Hawks are the last team in the Eastern Conference to play their first game.

Jeff Teague (ankle) is in the starting lineup with Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith and Al Horford. Kirk Hinrich (shoulder) and Donald Sloan are inactive.

Brook Lopez (foot) and Jordan Williams (dehydration) are out for the Nets. New Jersey won 90-84 at Washington last night.

The Hawks (and me) got here late because of awful traffic and rain. (Note: never trust the Google maps LaGuardia to Newark route that takes you through the city. Wish I’d known this 2 1/2 hours ago).

Michael Cunningham, Hawks beat

“Can’t block shots if you’re constantly being moved out of the lane…”

True, but even if it’s not Benson, I wonder if Green’s roster spot wouldn’t be better used on someone like Dampier.

Marvin with the foul and the fall.

But…he’s going to the line and is also leading us in boards with 6.

Can’t argue with that one bit.

Now that Zaza has committed his obligatory travel, it is only a matter of time before his obligatory moving screen.

Nice shot by Teague but something tells me shooting floaters without looking isn’t a sustainable way to score.

Nice move by Teague, if a bit off balance. D-Will can’t keep up with him.

I agree that Hawks have longed needed a shot-blocker off the bench. I would have chosen Benson over Sloan myself.

What looked like Iso-Joe — and would certainly have been Iso-Joe if Bibby was still here — turns into a two man game with Joe and Teague ending with an assisted basket.

@Najeh, who would you have cut instead of Benson then? Right decision, in my opinion, as it was the only option

Joe can create his own shot better than most. But it looks much better when he got set up for that shot. This early in the game is not the time for the ball pounding methodical one-on-one that eats the shot clock.

Not bashing Joe, but noticing that New Jersey ain’t giving him much off the dribble.

Man o Man – If these are the “new Hawks”….I love what I see….

Aggressive. Hustle and Teamwork on Defense.

Seriously, who else other than Deron can get his own shot with the Nets? They look pretty awful. I like the Hawks more aggressive defense and the bench looked really good also. But let’s acknowldge that the competition looks fairly pathetic. And yes, they wo nlast night against tomorrow’s opponent.

Two nice things on that Joe basket assisted by Teague: Teague’s willingness to move off the ball, and Joe’s willingness to get rid of the ball quickly when he saw the open teammate.

Not impressed…the Nets are a terrible team on the back end of a back-to-back…the Nets were getting blown out to the Wizards before coming back to win.
