Atlanta Hawks at Nets: Game thread

Finally, it’s time for real basketball. The Hawks are the last team in the Eastern Conference to play their first game.

Jeff Teague (ankle) is in the starting lineup with Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith and Al Horford. Kirk Hinrich (shoulder) and Donald Sloan are inactive.

Brook Lopez (foot) and Jordan Williams (dehydration) are out for the Nets. New Jersey won 90-84 at Washington last night.

The Hawks (and me) got here late because of awful traffic and rain. (Note: never trust the Google maps LaGuardia to Newark route that takes you through the city. Wish I’d known this 2 1/2 hours ago).

In this condensed season, the Hawks need to be able to rest starters like this…less than 2 qtrs for all starters…We have never been able to put a team away early like this in the past. Great start to 2011-2012.

I recalled that Vlad was a good passer. He’s certainly showing it tonight.

I like that our bench is not a one trick pony…or so it seems so far. Will only get better with the smart-playing Hinrich returning in a month or so.

i think Pargo has done a good job with the 2nd unit.. especially from a guy who was mostly a volume shooter..

Looks like we will not see Ivan much this season because Drew refuses to play rookies no matter how old and good they are.

Once Willie Green gets his legs under him, this second unit won’t have to rely on any one guy to produce offensively. If 3-4 guys average 8+ points/game, that will be more than enough to help this offense exceed 100 per night.

I wouldn’t jump to any positive conclusions about the Hawks, but they have beaten the hell out of a tired and mediocre squad tonight. They’ll have to do that throughout this season.

I don’t see anyone out side of Deron that Orlando would want in a trade with the Nets. Then again, Otis Smith is not the smartest of GMs.

We don’t need Nate Robinson. He’d be out there trying to do his own thing. If you wanted that, better to stick with JC1.

If Otis Smith has an ounce of brains, he’ll answer the phone and start gouging teams for as much as he can get for Howard by the trade deadline. Otherwise, it’s curtains. Howard is gone, just a matter of by the deadline or during the offseason. Otis might want to think about how to recoup after failing to surround Howard with the right guys…

Yes, the Nets are a hot mess. But at least we are treating them as such, and doing so on the road.

What would we be saying if we let them get to within 10 points with 5 minutes left on the clock?

Good win for the Hawks they need to beat up on bad teams such as these.

In before Schultz or Bradley writes a column after this game stating Hawks are ready to win an NBA championship.

Once Hinrich comes back…we could have a problem trading Pargo or Green…they have not shown much. We either be forced to trade Hinrich or cut Sloan.
