Zaza and Magnum Rolle were at Philips today. Twin is expected to re-sign with the Hawks tomorrow. Earl Watson told Jody Genessy of the Deseret News he hasn’t decided where he will sign.
So, assuming T-Mac and Twin follow through and sign with the Hawks and Watson ends up picking Atlanta, this is what the team depth chart would look like for the start of camp (not counting Kirk Hinrich):
PG–Jeff Teague/Earl Watson/Pape Sy
SG–Joe Johnson/Tracy McGrady/Brad Wanamaker
SF–Marvin Williams/Tracy McGrady
PF–Josh Smith/Magnum Rolle
C–Al Horford/Zaza Pachulia/Jason Collins/Keith Benson
That’s 14 players on the roster, 10 of whom have guaranteed contracts.
Still don’t see any of the “knock-down 3-point shooters” L.D. said he wants. Twin, when deployed in favorable matchups, ended up providing some of the defensive toughness L.D. is seeking and T-Mac is a pretty good defender and very good rebounder: According to Hoopdata, last season he was seventh in defensive rebound rate among shooting guards who played at least 15 minutes.
But so far it looks like the Hawks haven’t addressed two of their main concerns. Stay tuned.
Etc.

What about sending Jamal to Boston srtaight up for Jeff Green, or to the 76’s for Thadius Young? That is if we’re not gonna keep him

Lakers are in deep trouble if Bynum gets hurt now. He is already out 5 games (of a 66 game season) with his suspension.
Does LAL now offer Bynum + Artest for Dwight?

Dallas gets screwed this year because of shorter schedule. Not only can they not afford to keep all these guys, but there’s little chance they hit 50 wins in a 66 game season. Their impressive streak comes to an end this year.

That’s probably their plan all along. At this point I would be surprised if the Lakers didn’t have their own Big 3 to start the season.
As far as I am concerned, though, better the Lakers than the Knicks. The Knicks dropped a big chunk of change on Tyson Chandler hoping for CP3. Chandler will make them better, but if they don’t get CP3 they are still not real contenders. And anyway, I dislike NY teams a lot more than I dislike LA teams

That training staff better gear up! When you see the rich get richer, it makes you think about how The Dream Team is struggling in Philly and how the old Washington Redskins fared badly about nine years ago – when they stock piled all those HOFers past their prime.
I just hope the basketball gods somehow bless the Hawks and rain on the movers and shakers. Yeah, I know I’m hatinK. But dayum! It really sux being a Hawks fan.

What most of you fans are forgetting is what the hawks strengths are… Its Versatility. By having horford and josh on the floor at the same time it creates situations where its match-up problems. Either one of them can start a break off a miss and every starter on the team has the ability to be used in creative ways. If teague can understand when to force the action and when not to force the action the hawks will win games and get to the playoffs again.. They would be dumb to trade josh smith as in he does alot for the team on the defensive end as well as rotations. If Larry Drew can implement the correct offense to utilize the strenghts of the Hawks is going to be the deciding factor..

Not a bad team for NO. It really does not make sense though. They don’t really shed salary and they are not really a playoff team. One of the dumbest moves they could make. Just more proof that this trade was all about getting Paul another superstar to Lakers. No hate, but I hope you can see that NO could have done so much better financially than this trade.

What you’re forgetting is…
We’ve been doing it for years now, and we haven’t really gotten very far in the playoffs with those ‘mismatches’ on the floor.
I don’t mind keeping both. I like both Horford and Smith. But, the status quo won’t cut it. They need to bring in some additional talent, which they never do.
I’m booking it now. We’ll lose Jamal, T-Mac and a guy like Earl Watson will pretty much be it…
And we’ll go out there again this season as we do every season undermanned.

First off people need to let the Hawks grow as a team, If T-Mac can help us achieve our goal then let give him a chance ATL.We tend forget when Al Horford was a 1 round pick he went straightinto starting job of playing forward / center and al most won rookie of the year. He seem to me Atlanta fan aren’t pateince when comes to player they want a championship tomorrow. We drafted a center Keith Benson and now Al Horford can move to strong forward. This Benson is going to surprise a lot of fans.Jamal Crawford is great scorer but lack defense that what wins you games.T-Mac can rebound and assist ,and lastly we aren’t paying and arm and leg for him. Great Job Hawks organization . Believe it will pay off one day with a World Championship bander

Want to reiterate what Worldwide Clyde said earlier…..
Al NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER talks about getting tougher. It’s NEVER about being tougher or more physical defensively. All he cares about is his jumpshot WHICH IS USELESS WHEN HE IS GUARDED TIGHTLY.
He worked on nothing this summer. Dribbling and penetration? WHERE IS THE DEFENSE

@leedsatlanta: “MC, what happened to the Hawks management wanting Damien and David Lighty?”
not sure why they cooled on Damien (and neither is he). i’m guessing T-Mac means they don’t need him and they can get younger guys to be 10th man.
Lighty was playing in Europe but recently left. i wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up in camp with Hawks, but i’m sure he will get interest from other teams too.

@ superior
Jack: 2 yrs – roughly 11 mill left on deal
K Mart: 2 yrs – 25 million
Odom: 1 yr – 9 million ( 8.2 million team option next year )
Scola: 4 yrs – 39 million
Okafor: 3 yrs – 41 million
Plus the Hornets will get a few 1st round picks.
Essentially, it would be a deal similar that Memphis got when they traded Gasol to Memphis. People thought that trade was extremely lopsided ( I did too ). But the money off the books + the draft picks enabled Memphis to get these players
- Zach Randolph
- Marc Gasol
- Darrell Arthur
- Sam Young
In the end, although the trade handed the Lakers 2 championships, it ended up being a GREAT trade for Memphis.
But it’s really up to New Orleans to do something with those draft picks, and use the coming cap space to get a real good player(s)

LOL! I am starting to fall in love with you.
Btw even if the Knicks don’t get CP3, they will still be a major threat with Tyson Chandler. That is if he signs with them. But whose to say it’s out of the question that the Lakers not only land CP3….but Tyson Chandler…..AND Dwight Howard?
Is that possible!?
