I talked Hawks today with CineSport’s Noah Coslov. No news so far on the free-agent front. Check back tomorrow for a report from the first day of workouts at Philips.

Buddy,
I agree that he’s the best chip.
But only if we get a starting center in return. Otherwise, who plays the 5?
I can’t see a Zaza / Benson / Twin rotation carrying us very far. Thoughts?

Buddy,
One more thing… can you explain how Al is “highly overrated”, but yet has a “value contract”?
Seems to me that a “value contract” means that one would easily get their money’s worth, and IF that’s the case, can he also be “highly overrated”?
But my mind works differently from many, so please “splain” it to me.

@briggy: “mc do u know how much hawks will be under the cap at end of this season”
they will still over the cap unless they amnesty someone or trade for expiring contracts. right now they have about $61.5 million committed to six guys in 2012-13.

drmaryb, grandad,
It is true if Laimbeer and Oakley and those guys played today they would’ve fouled out in about 10 minutes. The game has turned into finesse and the riles have been changed much like how the NFL has changed into a finesse league.
I like Horford and Smith as players I just think they would be so much more effective if they had some sort of back to the basket game.
Question for you guys, would you take Chris Paul for a rental even if there was a risk he may not re-sign with the Hawks and you only had to give up Smith or Horford and maybe Zaza and Marvin and a pick?
Also what do you guys think of Caron Butler who is available and Nate Robinson who is getting bought out by Okc.

“I like Horford and Smith as players I just think they would be so much more effective if they had some sort of back to the basket game.”
Co-freakin’ sign.
As I said in the spring, I’d love for Al and Josh to have played one on one all summer using only their off hands, and within ten feet of the basket. No dunking, so they would have to learn to be creative near the rim.
As for your other questions…as much as I love CP3, no one year rental for me.
And I’d guess we’d have to amnesty Marvin to get Caron, and I don’t see the ASG doing that. I do like Caron’s toughness, though.

@corydillinger: “Hey MC been hearing a lot about a possible trade for Chris Paul is it possible something could happen for Teague and Marvin Williams?”
i’ve seen my blog people buzzing about this but not sure where you saw it. was it this from Broussard?
“The Atlanta Hawks are another team that could offer New Orleans an enticing package of, say, Marvin Williams and Jeff Teague. It’s not known whether Paul would consider signing an extension with the Hawks but he is known to be fond of the city of Atlanta.”
sounds like pure speculation to me. plus, not to bring up a sore spot, i’ve always heard Paul was mad because the Hawks told him they were going to draft him and he was ready to come. not sure if he’s still mad about that.
and, no, the Hornets are not going to trade Paul for Marvin and Teague.

Guys have been patient with Josh for 7 seasons yet rip on Al for one disappointing season. Whatever. If the game were only about physical attributes, Javale McGee would be an All-Star and Gerald Green would be in the league.
My guess is the ASG will continue to operate the team like it is a furnished apartment that they are renting. They may change the color of the bathroom rugs, but I wouldn’t expect them to be tearing down any walls. It will take new ownership to make a “franchise-changing” move.

I will say this about Dwight Howard before I post it on Schultz blog. Do I like Howard and want him on my team?Yes but I will say this He’s dominating because of the lack of Centers in the NBA.
All of the previous dominating Centers have won a Championship: Shaq,Duncan,Hakeem,Jabbar and WIlt. This dude hasn’t won jack chit yet. He’s just a big overgrown baby who likes to pound the rock and have everyone stop and watch him dunk. He ain’t ever winning a championship… yeah I said it!
He couldn’t carry Kareem’s jock strap… Tim Duncan was 1000x the player Dwight howard is. He’s only in the NBA because of his size, period.Dwight Howard wouldn’t even be a guaranteed starter 15 years ago

I misspoke, or should I say, mistyped. Laimbeer lost one of his intangibles in the late-eighties when the refs got wise to his flopping, so he didn’t really have a full set.

Jerry,
If D12 were on my team, I’d have him playing a Ben Wallace role (but obviously better), and he’d be the 4th option on offense. He’s way too unpolished offensively to dominate his way to a ring. But he’d be a heck of a stopper on D.

You are so right.
How could eye be so [color] blind.
However,
Bob Lanier was a lefty,
think of the political inferences some may have drawn ?
Man;
Bob Lanier -Underated- as an all-time great.
I could never put Any current NBA Big man in his size 22 shoes.
If he were playing right now;
they would have to have “One CBA” prrovision
just to pay the man.
He would be the best in the game today.
Yet when he played – he was overshadowed.
Dwight – please.
A J; Thanks again for making me remember the lefty hook.
I think I remember him more for playing at St Bonaventure.

D.Howard has made it clear that Josh is his boy, they roll together and have the talent to take the hawks to the highest. If they get their wish they will play with full intensity and absolutely expect to win. There is a reason they tape so many commercials together. They’ve been buddies all their lives. Let them play together like they want to.

Reggie Evans or Chuck Hayes would be good adds if the Hawks actually wanted to spend more than $800K on a FA (I know, a silly thought). More than likely, any frustrations with Josh will be ignored as his likely back-ups will be Benson or Rolle. Maybe we could get Solo Jones back in here for <$1M… he could teach those other guys how to be a marginal rail-thin NBA player.
Grandad, Lanier was slightly ahead of my time, I just recalled that he was very, very good from outside while still being a very good low post defender and rebounder.

Another way to get Paul & Okafor:
N.O. gets:
Joe, Josh, Teaguer, Zaza
Atl gets:
CP3 & Okafor + Patrick Ewing jr
Okafor’s contract is not as obtrusive as once was.
We shed Joe’s contract
Joe plays relatively near LR Ark
Joe will provide a little “s” superstar for N.O.
that will help their city a bit.
Zaza balance losing Okafor somewhat for N.O.
Teaguer = pg of the future for that city
and who knows, maybe Josh grows up and becomes a SS over there.
Just Win / Win Baby !!

Also, I’ve asked this a few times but maybe I missed an answer, but if someone like B.Roy were to be amnestied then signed by a team, what type of contract would he expect?
I would not amnesty anyone on this team. ASG cannot afford it (although few people have mentioned the fact that they no longer have the Thrashers to worry about)
