If you want a roundup of the latest lockout news, check out NBA.com Steve Aschburner’s summary of recent negotiations with the goal of starting the season on Christmas Day. (Update: According to Howard Beck of The New York Times, the players’ union and owners are using the the last offer as a starting point with the goal of playing a 66-game season.)
Rather than weigh in on that convoluted mess, I offer you some Hawks holiday tidbits . . .
Caught up with J.J., Teague and Damien at Louis Williams’ charity game at Atlanta Metropolitan College. Smoove was a no-show. Dwight was there to support his hometown guys but he didn’t play: “I don’t like to play five-on-five in the offseason.”
J.J. looked noticeably sleeker and quicker while checking the likes of Teague, Jarret Jack and Anthony Morrow. Remember that time J.J. harassed D-Rose and forced a turnover to beat the Bulls? He pretty much looked like that all game, which really stood out since no one else was really playing D.
OK, it wasn’t a real game, but the point is J.J. looked to be in great shape and he said he’s feeling “great” after extended time off following his injury-riddled season. He said he’s about six pounds less than his normal playing weight.
“That was my plan in camp, but since that was prolonged I am trying to keep my weight down and stay in shape,” he said. “[No formal practice] is not a big deal. I can go to the gym and get shots up. I try to get on the treadmill everyday, lift weights and try to keep my body stronger.”
Joe said he had a deal “locked up” to play for a club in China but that was nixed once the Chinese Basketball Association banned lockout opt-out clauses in contracts. So now he says he’s not looking to play in another league.
“I don’t want to, man, but if a good opportunity comes along I would have to look at it,” he said. “But I’m not looking forward to going anywhere else.”
Teague looked as quick as ever (though A.I. did blow by him with crossovers a couple times). He’s been working on his jumper but I can’t tell you what it looks like since getting to the rim was no problem for him in that kind of game.
Teague said he’s been working out and playing ball every day while shuttling back and forth between Atlanta and Indy (with occasional stops to check in on his little bro, who plays for that other team). If part of my blog people’s disappointment with the lockout is missing out on watching more of Teague’s development, then he feels you.
“I am ready to get back to playing,” he said. “Coming off a run like that, you want to come back with a lot of energy and hype and expectations for yourself. Hopefully we can get back on the court as soon as possible.”
In the mean time, Teague said he plans to return to Wake Forest next semester. The plan is to take four classes. “But I told my agent, I might have to go online,” he said. “I don’t know about staying in Winston that long.”
Etc.

Allen Iverson’s Wife Explains Decision to Divorce + AI’s 2007 Lambo Still Impounded…
Jun, 20 2011 | Written by ATLien

Tawanna Iverson, Atlanta transplant and wife of former NBA basketball star Allen Iverson has filed dem “Papers” against her husband and is seeking a divorce.
This is the the second time Tawanna has filed divorce from the former NBA star. She filed for divorce the first time back in March 2010, citing the marriage was “irretrievably broken” but decided to give their 9 year union another try.
New documents were filed on June 13, 2011 in Fulton County Superior Court (court document) and despite widespread rumors of Allen’s cheating ways, Tawanna wants you to know that “cheating” was not a factor…

Tawanna explains:
“Cheating in the marriage has never been an issue. My decision to divorce has nothing to do with another woman.”
Tawanna — who described her 10-year marriage in divorce papers as “irretreivably broken” — explains, “Sometimes people just grow apart and it’s just that simple.”
She adds, “Many people want this to be more complicated than that and it’s not.” (source)
On another note, the 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago that got AI so much attention a few months ago is still sitting in the impound lot…

Apparently that dealer tag wasn’t good after all and AI still hasn’t come up with the cash for the tags.
ATLien ~ u remember that piece u ran on allen iverson and his lambo? that damn lambo is still impounded?!?!? >>> (source)
From what i understand it can only be impounded for so long before it goes up for an auction (and we all know that car go cheap at auction lol) and the point his wife re-filed for divorce again. damn that ninja cant get a break! ~ SilentbutSmart
If you’ve never had your car towed in the “A” over a tag issue let ME clue you in… [yes I've been there don't judge me!] You are required to PAY ALL of the outstanding ad volrem taxes on your vehicle AND provide a receipt to the City of Atlanta BEFORE you can get a release for your vehicle.
Once you provide the proof of payment from the tag office, you are given a clearance form that you have to present to the impound lot.
I say all that to say… when Iverson told the officer “Take it I have 10 more” I guess he meant it…
Get your bids ready. If it’s there longer than 90 days, I think they auction it off.
But I digress…
Since this is the 2nd divorce filing for the Iversons, there may be a small chance that they’ll try to make it work again. Or not…. I mean “FOREVER” is mighty long time… right?
Question: How many times should a couple try to work it out before they just throw in the towel?

Maybe a chance to play in Atlanta, would clear some things up? I don’t think Iverson is flat broke, but I’m sure he could use a little extra cash, especially if the wife takes “half”. Hopefully, they can work that marriage out, I think they have like 3 or 4 children. I wouldn’t be mad if the Hakws signed him. I just don’t like Dalembert at all, this guy has no redeeming human qualities – none! He is worse than MaRvin and refuses to pick up a basketball in the off season. Dalembert is “ultra-lazy”. IMHO!

ASG is still in charge. They don’t like the six foot (maybe) guy with the corn rows, tattoos and killer crossover.
No Iverson in the ATL. Also, no hope.

question:
say the lockout hadn’t ended.. would the free agent class of 2012 still be eligible? or would they owe another year to their respective teams. are the contracts calendar based, or based on seasons?
