can’t see @ work ……. but I am sure the folks in Cali are wondering if the price for pizza toppings are going up … “What, $3.99 to add pepperoni?!?!?”
August 8th, 20113:13 pm
oops .. can see it …. I wonder if Philips Arena will have a new pizza franchise in the concessions area?
I hope he drops mega-loads of moolah to make the Hawks. I think Sund may be put in retirement mode within the next 8 months …and LD may be looking at an assistant gig within 12 mos. My guess is most new owners want to bring in folks they know or have a good feel for. If Merulo has had a jonezin’ to own a team for “years”, he probably already has a short wish list of guys that he would want in key positions (GM and head coach).
Hey, will there be a 2012 NBA draft if the season is lost?
August 8th, 20113:26 pm
Can’t wait to see who he has in mind for GM and coach.
August 8th, 20113:29 pm
First move MC,
Bring in a quality GM and coach. Let them evaluate the roster. Instead of Drew and Sund. Good to have one person making the decisions for the Hawks.

August 8th, 20113:52 pm
Fire SALE ANYONE??
Jettison All NBA along with his side kick Marvin…
One price for any Toppings please?
Fire Sund and Larry simultaneously!
We want an all Latin Woman’s Cheer-leading squad..
August 8th, 20114:28 pm
this guy is goin’ to come in and make a splash!!! he is a “first hispanic owner” and proud of it, so he ain’t gonna sit back and watch.
August 8th, 20114:42 pm
Has anyone found out anything about the guy yet (ie how much is he worth)?

I have been posting on the football and baseball sites and decided to post on the basketball site
since a new owner is set to arrive. I’ve decided to arrive along with him. I am more knowledgeable
about european sports but I do enjoy American cricket and rugby. I’m kidding,
the Braves and Bulldogs of course. I will poke my nose in from time to time as I do on the other
blogs just mainly to read and enjoy the conversation.
August 8th, 20115:21 pm
First order of business…….please, please replace those piss poor scoreboards that hang high in the rafters. The quality and technology feels like it came out of the 80’s. Philips should be embarrassed to have their name associated with those screens.
Second order of business…….win, with some excitement.
August 8th, 20115:26 pm
All that folderol before and I forgot to welcome Alex Meruelo to Atlanta, Georgia.
August 8th, 20116:11 pm
August 8th, 2011
“Has anyone found out anything about the guy yet (ie how much is he worth)?”
“Meruelo bought 80% stake in #Hawks and Philips for about $300 mil. Also assumed virtually all debt, including city bonds”
Guess he’s worth enough to drop 300x 1 million usd to purchase 80% of stock in the Franchise plus assume all debt(City Bonds)??
He sells mucho pizza’s!!
If he wants to earn respect with the fans he’d better get out the broom get rid of the bums!!!
ADIOS LARRY( I dont get no respect) AND SUND (31 years of mediocrity)
Bring back Knight so he can correct his mistakes!
August 8th, 20116:18 pm
Memo to new Hawk’s ownership: Make sure those Latina’s on the new Cheer leading squad are 5′9″
in bear feet!
Put them in micro-fishnets to accentuate their long gorgeous legs! Excitement down @ Phillips!!
August 8th, 20116:28 pm
Congrats to this fan base who has gotten what they wished for; a single point of accountability.
The ASG is gone as far as we’re concerned. Perhaps Alex moves them out more and more as time goes by.
And yes, my hope is Drew and Sund can be looking for work sooner than later.
Mike is back
August 8th, 20118:11 pm
What’s up MC, I gotta give it to you ya bro…you got your pulse on the heart of the fans…I’m excited about this guy…to make a major investment in the Hawks…during the lock out…this guy has to have a passion for the game.
THE ASG should never be forgiven for selling away the Thrashers…that should be their legacy…that and giving up JC2…How JC2 name got involved in trade…for the life of I will never understand.
The new owner Says he want to bring a ring to ATL…hey, I already like this guy.

FIRE ASG……………………………..free at last……………………FREE AT LAST! Now CLEAN DA HOUSE OF THE POOR MANAGEMENT(SUND, DREW AND ANY ASSISTANCE IN MANAGEMENT). NOW I WILL BUY SEASON TICKETS FOR WIFE AND MYSELF. HAVEN’T BEEN TO A HAWK CAME SINCE NIQUE JERSEY WAS RETIRED. WE HAD SEASON TICKETS FOR YEARS UP UNTIL THAT DEBACLE WITH THE CELTICS WHEN LEVINGSTON(CLIFF) TOOK THE FINAL SHOT @ THE OMNI. THE NEXT SEASON, STAN KASTEN RAISED THE PRICE OF THE TICKETS AND MOVED US FROM BEHIND THE HAWKS BENCH. Welcome Mr. Meruelo.
August 8th, 20119:17 pm
DMB, you are on the prowl I see…..but I gotta give it to you….this guy doesn’t sound like he knows much about the Hawks. Not sure if it means he will allow the ‘basketball’ people run the establishment, but I bet Rick Sund will work his magic and keep himself in the mix…at least for now…it just depends on who the owner leans on for advice.
If its Sund, oh boy….if its someone like a Hubie Brown, then maybe there is something good that is going to come out of this.
And, it might be better that we get a guy who knows business, but just has the sense to hire the ‘best’ basketball people he can find. I would think when he looks at Larry Drew’s salary, he thinks “Well, we have the lowest paid coach in the game, and we need to make a splash and bring together the fan base with a big name that does have championship experience.”
And no one say Larry Brown either!

August 8th, 20119:57 pm
I haven’t posted on this blog today. Just closed my practice and finished a ton of paperwork. I’m surprised MC put up a new blog today. 2 in 24 hours must be some record on the Beat! LOL!
I did however just leave Bradley’s Blog and I will re-post my comments here for a lack of anything to add to what I said there:
Once I read all the fine and varied opinions and learn more about Mr. Meruelo, I can make an impact statement of my own.
For now I am so stunned and elated that a change is gonna’ come, that I’ve been rendered speechless. I just learned of this great news when the red light on my B-Berry began flashing while I was in church yesterday:
I was praying that a change was gonna’ come on many fronts. Little did I know it was gonna’ be my Hawks on that day, that hour and that moment.
As soon as I gather my self up off the floor? I’m gonna’ come up swinging. That and if I ever get to use my own user ID ever again without “Lurch” (da troll), stalking me. LOL & smdh. (she pffts & smirks)
I have no interest in posting under multiple I’d’s nor time to waste or play games with that. Besides, content reveals character and my cohorts know me, my style and my swagger, just like I know them, their style and their swagger. (lol)
Let’s Go Hawks!

He Hate Me!
I think MC hates us! He posts a blog, but NARY a comment to his:
EX-BLOG PEOPLE? He doesn’t even call us that any more in his blogs. I think Daddy’s gone and found himself a new family to love. I guess Mamma wasn’t doing it right?
-drmaryb- The Entertainment Reporter
Hey Grand-Daddy, that was a plug from me and for you. I champion all your efforts and plights. I’m on board with you re: this blog’s antics, lack of moderation, trolls unattended and running wild, nor blog-fan appreciation.
I’am reporting all the blog abuse and lack of respect for others who enjoy posting under their est. user I’d’s. Very soon there will be IP Addresses banned, (a temp. stop gap) as we are all aware.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch? We got a new owner! 80% is more than I ever imagined. Right now, I’m just fact gathering, before I throw in my .02 cents worth of an opinion. I’m closed tomorrow, so I will call you in the late morning. Hugs and Kisses!
G-Nite Everyone! I missed everybody on here and have found new hobbies. Peace.
August 8th, 201110:59 pm
Let’s see: if $300 million represents 80% of the NPV of the franchise plus real estate plus outstanding debt then the amortised value of the Hawks , then $375 million would represent approximately 100 % of the team’s value. If the ASG paid $200 million for the Hawks and Thrashers and sold the Thrashers for say,$125 million then they has a net return on investment of, assuming a basis of $200 million , of 47%. that doesn’t account for taxes, amoritization and interest and of course legal fees.
But the characterization of NBA ownership as being unprofitable doesn’t seem to comport with the facts. The Sixers sold at a premium as well. Mr. Stern, please tell me again how the owners are loosing money and who is holding a gun to their head(s) to force them to continue down the primrose path?
August 8th, 201111:05 pm
Good job on the video. If you get a chance, teach your pathetic colleague, D Ledbetter a thing or two. Keep up the good work!
August 8th, 201111:43 pm
Said it before. The guy who presses R.C. Buford’s shirts knows more about basketball than anyone in the Hawks organization. Dennis Lindsey should be the next Hawks GM. Buford’s last understudy to get a GM job? Sam Presti, Oklahoma City Thunder.
August 8th, 201111:46 pm

@ILL-Logical, why would the Chief Gangster/godfather himself tell the truth about anything basketball related? He’s a lawyer for one and a pseudo politician…. Welcome to the “Matrix” Sir!
August 9th, 201112:14 am
That point was brought up in negotiations.
*I don’t even know what amortization means nor how to spell it.
But, I know that was a point of contention in how they
[owners] balanced the books.
Larry Coon says it is SOP not to count amorecitation.

It’s sad once the lockout began, I wasn’t all that down about it. Now with a new owner…it’s as though new life has sprung into me. I’m getting more and more anxious for something to be done with the CBA.
By the way, what exactly is going on with the CBA? Who wants what and why? Whose winning and whose losing….because I only seem to understand these things when they’re explained by some of you bloggers…..
August 9th, 20111:01 am
I’m sure if he had stuff to write about and was getting paid for it, he would. What do you want him to comment on. Read his story on the new owner. It is better than anything that DOL will ever put out.
August 9th, 20111:37 am
The situation with the lockout is that players are seeking for the National Labor Relations Board to agree with their position that the owners have not negotiated in good faith. Meanwhile the owners have made a preemptive strike in the courts, seeking to have a judge agree with their position that the lockout does not violate antitrust laws and may proceed.
While both sides wait for respective rulings, nothing is going to happen. The owners are trying to break the union and get a CBA that puts 100s of millions of dollars in their pocket. Meanwhile, the NBA will soon be negotiating a TV deal at a time when advertising for live events is becoming more valuable. In the age of Tivo, many people wait to watch their favorite shows so they can skip the commercials. Live events such as sports are advertisers’ best opportunity to keep viewers in front of the TV where their commercials can actually be seen.
So the owners are crying poverty while shelling out record prices for garbage franchises like Golden State and handing out $120 million contracts to non-money players like Joe Johnson. Meanwhile, after the CBA is signed, owners will cash in on a new TV deal and watch their franchise values go through the roof.
August 9th, 20112:57 am
ILL-Logical, your comments are just an example of the hypocrisy of the NBA owners.
If Stern can sell owner poverty to the players, this will be his latest and greatest achievement as commish. The players are going to stand their ground on this one.
Golden State sold for 450M…..guys were lining up to pay that price. Doesn’t sound like tough times going on to me…..
The Joe Johnson contract is full of hypocrisy as the owners just can’t defend justifying their stances here. Once the games start going by, you are going to see some activity.
If the players can hold out long enough, the dissension towards the owners will grow.
Can you tell I favor the guys who don’t set the prices? The owners are blaming everyone but themselves.
August 9th, 20117:32 am
ALEX BABY!! You had me at HELLO, and then you said CHAMPIONSHIP!!
It’s OPEN SEASON on NBA BEEFCAKES, ladies, and I’m LOCKED AND LOADED!!
OMG, I LOOOOOOVE MEN!!
August 9th, 20118:11 am
The owners are full cow manure just like those faces you see on the Fox/CNN/MSMBC….BLah,Blah,Blah
August 9th, 20118:14 am
You have a really beautiful smile..u should smile more often!!
August 9th, 20118:19 am
I would trade Sund, Drew and a second round pick for Lindsey and Casey.
I think it’s a well calculated financial move by the new owner to buy the Hawks this year. Because of the lockout, Drew will get a reduced salary, and Rick Sund only has one year left. I think the new owner will let this season/lockout play itself out, and then he will look to bring in his guys (coach and GM) next offseason.
Also, if there is a lockout, players wont be getting paid, so he may save a little bit of money there, since the ASG was losing money each season.
August 9th, 20118:26 am
“I would trade Sund, Drew and a second round pick for Lindsey and Casey.” LOL
Dont forget J-LO from the BRONX! She very single now and loaded in more ways than one..Sexiest 40 year old alive….
August 9th, 20118:28 am
So what this guy does not know basketball. Did Ted Turner know baseball?
August 9th, 20118:39 am
Fact: It cost about 1 dollar to make a full size Pizza with toppings! Say what? Yep!
Thats a lot of Dough?…….

Well the era of The ASKillerG has finally come to an end. PTL!
The ASKG were the equivalent of 8 feces throwing orangutans. The only suits they filed were against one another.
They never filed into the arena wearing suits to watch their own team play – yet they criticized fans for not doing so. They never spent money wisely (as Najeh Davenpoop would say).
Najeh also coined the phrase:
“8 feces throwing orangutans”, which I succinctly adopted and stole from him. That is the most accurate depiction of The ASKG (a phrase I coined), I have ever heard.
So, welcome Alex Meruelo, your fan base will be as rabid as you make them be. We are hungry, beaten and teased from years past, mired with mediocrity and not a snowball’s chance in hell of winning anything to speak of!
Find us a Dwight Howard and unleash Jeff Teague – please!
Promote the New Look Hawks well:
Offer $2 Beer nights (mid-week)
Free garage parking for early arrivals
Create a Game Day Experience
Open the gates 3 hours early (with BOGO promos)
And, we will pack & rock Phillips Arena in kind!
Oh Yeah! And, Welcome To Atlanta.
- the real DMB -
August 9th, 20119:07 am
I tried posting a link but was unsuccessful. The new Hawks owner was on 680 the fan, so maybe somebody can post it (although he didnt say much about basketball operations).

Hello – Good Morning!
SlimJr Baby! Wassup my LOVE? Boy have I missed you and all that unbridled enthusiasm you always bring to the blog. You make the blog FUN to read. You are one sick puppy.
The sexiest 40 year old alive? Whoa … wait a minute, I may have something to say about that. LOL!
Wassup Ms. Dee? Great to see you this morning. I was looking for you yesterday. Now, the blog is up and running – properly.

Najeh Baby! Man do I LOVE you too. I just posted my comments titled: SALE on a national NBA blog and pasted it here, check out sekou’s spot, there is some “Good Stuff” over there as well.
I gotta log off now, back to the rock pile. I’ll check in tonight though. Yawl have fun, with all the great breaking news for us Hawks Fans. I’m stoked! .(*_*).

He Got Jokes!
“I would trade Sund, Drew and a second round pick for Lindsey and Casey.” – O’BRIEN -
Lindsay Lohan & Casey Anthony? Really? I just got the joke. I’m slow before I get a Starbuck’s cup of joe.
Hilariously funny. You are stoopidly funny beneath that dry sense of humor.
Keep it coming, laughs are not coming fast enough amidst all the politico crap of the day.
And, like a 2 Live Stews caller – I’m gone! (aiight…aiight…aiight)
August 9th, 20119:28 am
the entire hawk’s game experience was a joke under the asg. from ryan cameron to drummers that came out during pregame. all those drummers signaled were that the asg were cheap as hell! if meurelo wants fans to come out in droves he needs to change everything from the product on the court to everything around it…
chicago, la, new york, and boston make their games an event. if you want to sell out the arena make it worth people’s hard earned money!
August 9th, 20119:30 am

* Najeh … Blog titled: SOLD!
August 9th, 201110:01 am
Early Birds Combo!
Free Garage Parking and $2 Beer until Game Time!
How’s that for a PROMO? It will get the arena packed early and rocking on week nights – right?
Place $1 scratch off lottery tickets under 10,000 seats and the WINNER must have the corresponding ticket stub for that seat! (let Arthur Triche worry about ppl who sit in other’s seats)!
Here’s my point: there are a ton of ways to pack the arena if the owner wants to.
SlimJr! I missed you too – a lot! You got Swagg. Everybody on really has their own M.O. Too Much Good Stuff! Promise me we will meet at a designated spot one night at the arena – word? You can see for yourself, what I’m working with. I might even wear a dress – for you! LOL!
Ok, I really got to go pay some bills now. I’m just so excited about the FOR SALE flipped to SOLD! (sniggles)
August 9th, 201110:05 am
If ALEX BABY wants to sell those HOTLANTA HAWKS tickets like HOTCAKES, he should have a promotion where fans can get UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL with those BIG, MANLY MEN in the locker room before they get all SWEATY on the HARDWOOD, right, ladies??
Is it getting HOT in here, OR WHAT??
August 9th, 201110:12 am
Arthur Triche! I know how to do the $1 Scratch Off Lottery Tickets. Instead of placing them under the seats?
Give the 1st 10,000 ticket holders the lottery tickets as they enter the gates – first come first serve! When the tickets run out, that’s it. Issue one ticket per ticket stub collected @ the turn stiles.
Price the Jerseys BOGO until Game Time starts and open the doors, 3 hours early. A packed arena is the best way to energize the players!
They look for and need fan support, it demoralizes players like Joe, Josh and Al when the stands are empty at the ball toss. The ASKG NEVER did anything to reward the fans.
Hopefully, Meruelo will dare to be different.
OK! I’m really gone this time.
August 9th, 201110:17 am
BOGO BEEFCAKE NIGHT!
(ALEX BABY, why haven’t you called me???)
August 9th, 201110:23 am
Folks it’s finally time to bury the ghost of ASG! Those tight-wad clowns changed our team colors to generic blue and red. Let’s show ASG how much we hate them by starting a campaign to beg our new owner to go back to the red and gold Dominique Wilkins, Spud Webb, Pistol Pete and Lou Hudson wore before those ASG clowns hijacked our beloved Atlanta Hawks. By the way, I’m a Cuban-American born and raised in the ATL, so maybe I might have enough ‘juice’ to convince Alex Meruelo to get this feat accomplished! ATL stand up!
