I still am amazed at Josh Smiths game last night. I could see that Josh was determined to PLAY THE RIGHT WAY. On several interior drives into the paint, Josh was struggling to get in there and was throwing up WILD shots that were missing. He kept doing though, and ended up on the free throw line, helping his team score and making the right decisions. JOSH SHOULD REVIEW THE TAPE OF LAST NIGHTS HAWKS GAME ABOUT 10000 TIMES AND TRY AND BURN THIS VIDEO INTO HIS SUBCONSCIOUS MIND.

i don’t think that the hawks got cheated. marvin was a BENCH player on a nat’l championship team. hawks had no effin’ business pickin’ him. jus’ like they had no effin’ business pickin’ shelden at 10. is it these guys fault? or the organization who picked them?

if the hawks can finish these boys in 6 games and the miami/boston series go 7 games, hawks can STEAL a first game in that series too.

Be careful how you slam Billy Knight. The Hawks are only 6 wins from playing in the NBA FINALS. IF THE Hawks continue to play out of their minds, they might just win their first NBA title. Then you will change direction and say what a wonderful guy Billy Knight is for assembling our dynasty. BE CAREFUL HOW YOU BASH BILLY KNIGHT. Billy is looking pretty good right now as the Hawks continue their ascension toward NBA greatness.

Don’t usually but agree this time with much of what Rod stated: If LD does not want Josh shooting jump shots then don’t put him in a space position. He is constantly on the same side of the floor as a post up guy…or diagnol opposite…i.e. prime space positions for shooters. Often because they take so long to get into a set if the ball is kicked he has to shoot it. Obviously there are occasions in which he shoots early and those are bad shots and ones in which he needs to be held accountable but there are also shots he shoots that are a function of poor spacing and design

1.JJ, ripped the organization apart. we gave two 1st round picks for him. belkin thought it was too much (he was right, phoenix couldn’t re-sign him anyway).
2.Childress? marginal player when here. went overseas and to phoenix and did NOTHIN’.
3.Speedy Claxton? 30mill over 4 years for 30 games.
4.AJ? gave up a 2nd rounder for him
5.Marvin? PULEEZE!!
6.Josh Smith KUDOS!!
7.Acie Flaws? yeah, right.
8. Sheldon? yeah, right, then we traded him for bibby. could had roy/gay

SteveW,
“Rod – “I would prefer a guy who is not scared and will try his best and never quit”
Josh quits constantly for long stretches. I guess you don’t watch the games that close? Surely you’ve seen that.”
So again if Josh quits constantly for long periods in your eyes, the please explain to me what Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, and Al Horford do. What has Al Horford done this entire series. Has he been playing and going all out for the whole series. What about Joe, when he scores 30 one night and 8 the next. Does Marvin give more effort than Joe on a consistent basis. You continue to say how much Josh is you favorite player, but you want to hold him accountable for everything and give other players a pass. You said Horford is playing bad because he is “Tired”. talk about excuses, it’s the palyoffs. Why does a guy that’s not an all star get held to such a high standard?

Yeah man, with every game, win and loss the entire dynamics of the series changes. The historical and statistical aspects of the teams winning pace kicks in and history pretty much does repeat itself.
Tied at 2 games each after 4 games pretty much tells us that these two teams are evenly matched, then home court does become a factor.
Problem with that is, the Hawks are a better road team, because the home court fans are very transient.
These Hawks play better and more together on the road, but we can’t discount sleeping in your bed and eating your own food on big game noghts. The Hawks are not greater than the sum of their parts.
Together on 3! 1 – 2 -3 ….. “TOGTHER!”

Fear not, Bulls still in control
BY JOE COWLEY jcowley@suntimes.com May 9, 2011 10:05AM
ATLANTA — Now, can you do it again?

Can Atlanta Hawks forward/head case Josh Smith remember that he’s shooting-challenged from 17 feet and out? Can Hawks center Al Horford remember that passing to an open teammate in the paint leads to good things? Can Hawks point guard Jeff Teague mimic Derrick Rose in the fourth quarter, or will he remember that he’s actually Jeff Teague? Can Hawks guard Joe Johnson pass up shots and actually have a five-assist game?
Derrick Rose drives around the Hawks’ Jeff Teague. He scored 34 points in the Bulls’ loss. | kevin c. cox~getty images
‘‘That’s the million-dollar question there,’’ Hawks coach Larry Drew said when asked where this version of his team had been hiding in the last week.
The Hawks didn’t show up in Games 2 and 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series, and their victory in Game 1 was about two shooters catching fire and having everything they touch turn to gold.
Team basketball? That’s a concept the Hawks still are trying to put their arms around.
And that’s why the Bulls are still in full control of this series, even though it now is tied 2-2.
Talent beats flash. Team basketball beats playground.
That’s why Drew wanted to grab the tape from Game 4, pop some popcorn and have a late-night viewing session with his players called ‘‘Hoops 101.’’ He’ll have to settle for eggs and Froot Loops this morning, with Smith getting a special viewing.
Hawks’ Smith comes up big
Smith was all-world in the Hawks’ 100-88 victory Sunday, scoring 23 points, pulling down 16 rebounds and handing out eight assists. More impressive in Drew’s mind was that Smith played team basketball, a concept that is still foreign in Atlanta.
‘‘I’m going to bring the tape in and bring him in my office [this morning],’’ Drew said. ‘‘Josh knows what he brings to the table; he recognizes that. He sometimes finds his way to the perimeter and lets it go, but he has a very unique ability to impact the game on both sides of the floor. When he’s flying around, making plays, playing energized basketball, he’s very good.’’
‘‘When’’? There’s the leak in the Hawks’ dam of momentum.
They out-playgrounded the Orlando Magic in the first round and perhaps thought that mentality could be the model for success against a disciplined Bulls team in the second round. After the mirage that was Game 1, reality checks came in Games 2 and 3, with ‘‘lack of energy’’ the disguise for what went wrong with the Hawks.
No, it was the lack of a team concept, a lack of fundamentals. Whatever Drew told them before Game 4, however, they slurped it up.
‘‘We played like a desperate team,’’ Drew said. ‘‘Both teams played really hard. . . . We had to go into the fourth [quarter] with the mind-set we had to defend. We played with a lot of energy, a lot of emotion, and we shared the basketball a lot more. We play like that, we’re an effective ballclub.
‘‘It’s something I’ve been preaching all year: When we share the ball, we will have that result. We will have five or six guys in double digits. When you play against the No. 1 defense in the league, you have to be committed to sharing the ball, attacking.’’
Repeat performance unlikely
The worst-case scenario for the Bulls is that the Hawks finally get what Drew is preaching, take it into Game 5 and play team basketball again. Even then, though, the Bulls are more talented top to bottom.
The reality of what we will see Tuesday at the United Center is that the Bulls will come out with fire, and the Hawks will feel the burn and revert to what they know best: one-on-one, no-conscience basketball.
‘‘It’s the playoffs; there’s going to be urgency,’’ Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau said. ‘‘When a team loses and they come out, they’re usually urgent.
‘‘Once [the Hawks] get going, they’re a hard team to slow down. They were active, they fought hard, and a big part was how we finished the game.’’
Applaud the Hawks for that. Pat them on the back and congratulate them for their effort in Game 4. But fear them?
It gets back to one question: Can you do it again?
I’m guessing no.

I really hope this team believes this Bull, while Larry Drew plans a stealth dismantling of their swiss cheese roster. This article reminds me of Mike Bianchi in Orlando, so I’ll gladly take the bait and bullets for our white board.

Rod – ‘So again if Josh quits constantly for long periods in your eyes, the please explain to me what Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, and Al Horford do. What has Al Horford done this entire series.”
I think it is anybody who has sights eyes, not just in my eyes – and you know it if you would be honest.
JJ, Marvin, and Al don’t discombobulate when they make a bad play, or get a real or perceived bad call.
Al – 38.8 mpg
Josh – 36 mpg
Al this series has averaged 11.2 ppg/10 rbs/1 block/ 1 turnover
That’s were Al has been.
And surely you know that the All Star team is not the 12 best players in each conference. It’s the best 2 or 3 players at each position. So Al can make the All Star team and not be nearly as good as someone else at another position who had a bunch of guys ahead of him a little better at a particular position.
And you sound insanely jealous for whatever reason that Al was an All Star and Josh has not been.
Who made more than twice as much cash as Al this Season? Josh Smith
Who will make more than Al next season? Josh Smith
Who will make more than Al the season after that? Josh Smith
Why wouldn’t I hold Josh to the same standard as Al?
And if Al complained about phantom calls, took halves off, jacked up horrible shots in 80 out of 82 games on a consistent basis, of course I would call him out also.
But he plays as a professional.
Your on the losing side of this arguement because of blind loyalty. Face it. The truth is always a good thing.
And I’m a Smoove fan. Trust me. Just not a blind one

And to bring Marvin into a discussion about Josh Smith is just weird.
So are trying to tell me Josh plays just as well when he pouts, complains, jogs up the court for long stretches, makes his guys play 4 on 5, when he mentally checks out, as he was in the 4th quarter last night? You don’t see the 2 Josh’s Rod?
Maybe something in the water in College Park.

I am so excited about the Hawks, I just cant sit still for one minute. JOSH “SMOOTHE” PLAYED THE GAME OF HIS LIFE LAST NIGHT. Last night, Josh Smith looked as good as either LaBron James or Dwayne Wade. That is what i have been saying all along. WHEN JOSH PLAYS UNDER CONTROL, IT IS LIKE YOU ARE ADDING D-WADE OR LABRON TO YOUR ROSTER. Pretty good additio, huh. Of course when Josh is launching is reckless 3-s all over the perimeter, then is looks like a “Druken Marvin Williams”. Thanks Josh, great ball game last night. We need two more like that from you in this series to close out the Bulls.

I don’t have any doubts 1-12 the Bulls have more talent the Hawks.
But last I checked, BBall was 5 on 5, not 12 on 12. So if your best 5 can beat their best 5, and you have 3 subs to rotate to keep fresh in their, you can beat them.
And we have Jamal, Wilkens, ZaZa, and Marvin off the bench when we play big, so we can rotate effectively.
Guys – you do realize we are doing this missing one of our best players, right? If the Bulls didn’t have Deng or Boozer, the excuses in the national media would be endless.
But we’re tied up 2-2 missing KH. We’re doing better than most of the national media thinks.
Go Hawks!!!!!!!

LOL@ that Chicago article that drmaryb posted.
So we play playground basketball, but the Bulls, who have one guy taking 40% of the Bulls shots, are a “team oriented” offense that is a better team from top to bottom?
Get The F–k Outta Here
And I agree with drmaryb about MC’s coverage. While I disagreed with his stance on JJ during this series ( until his write-up last night ), he is a very good professional writer. He doesn’t resort to tabloid-style writing to get his point across. And he doesn’t trash and bash the other team while trying to make his point.
I like that article though. I hope the Bulls themselves feel exactly the same way that sportswriter does. Maybe they’ll come in complacent and “let us” win Game 5 as well.
If everybody played up to their ability, Chicago still has the best player in the series in Rose. But we have the 2nd – 5th best players in JJ, Smith, Horford, and Jamal. And while the Bulls bench is better, they’re not necessarily reliable either.
Rose has taken 27 – 27 – 27 and 32 shots in this series. That’s 28.3 shots a game. And that doesn’t include the shots in which he gets fouled on, that doesn’t count as an official shot attempt. Nor does it count the times in which Rose is looking to shoot, but turns the ball over before he can get his shot up.
But we’re the ones playing playground basketball? Their main guy simply comes down and looks to shoot on just about every possession.

I dont think BK watched any film on Marvin before the draft. The same issues Marvin has now he had then. He had weak handles, couldnt create off the dribble, wasnt a three point shooter, and had trouble finishing at the rim. I never saw the hype with Marvin. Vitale was hyping up Marvin that whole year but nothing about his game stood out. I think they try to move Marvin in the summer but from what I’ve read, they have been trying to trade him the last two years.

Leave that dude alone, and talk about how great that game was last night . . or what we need to do to beat the Bulls tomorrow night. All of the unnecessary hate is a bunch of crap. Sometimes, some of you need to chill out on the negative, and focus on the positive.
Honestly, if we get one good game out of Marvin, it could be the difference in us winning the series or losing it. But even if we don’t, as long as he’s solid defensively, his contribution will be noted.
It’s just mindboggling to me that some of you would rather talk about Marvin, than about the great win last night.
