Hawks-Cavaliers game thread

Greetings, all-

Hope you’re well. About to head to the court. The lineup: Kirk Hinrich, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, Al Horford, Jason Collins. Interesting collection. We’ll see how it shakes out.

Gotta run. Will chime in.

“I dont know why, but Jamal and Teague are not a good match…”
___________

Teague better learn to play with whoever is on the court, and find his alpha-dog. For him, every minute is a blessing!

So last night, Josh said its a positive for him and the team to drive to the basket more.

But tonight, he is 3-10, including 0-5 on shots from 12 feet and beyond. Way to go, Josh.

Playing against bigger guards was one of the reason LD didn’t want to start Teague. Fire LD!

I like Josh’s effort on the boards, and passing. but Josh, please stop the jumpers…0-6 from outside the paint.

Jamal is 1-5 though. We really need to get him going before the playoffs…

Josh is definitely taking too many shot tonight. All the other things he’s doing (rebounding, assisting, etc.) have been great, but he could definitely tune down the attempts. 15 shots is just too many for a half. I wouldn’t care if those shots were all good shots within 5-10 ft. of the basket and were easy looks, but I’d say that about half of them were probably jump shots. I wish Josh would learn that he doesn’t have to be the leading scorer to dominate a game. He should just stick to what he does best and be happy with that.

Please, smith is a couple of blown assists from a triple double right now. In all reality he only took 2 bad jumpshots.

And Marvin falls again. lol. Team looks like it did earlier in the season when you know who was out. More ball movement.

By the way, Marvin is quietly having a very nice game. He’s got 13 points on 4-7 shooting and 6 rebounds. Perhaps, more importantly, he’s not forcing anything and he’s attacked the basket on several occasions. I’ve always felt that Marvin would flourish as a player if Joe wasn’t around. There may be some truth to that. It could just be that he’s playing a rare good game against a bad team, but it just seems like Marvin typically plays better when Joe is out of the lineup.

How can Teague be the alpha dog when only peeps who want him to do well is us??
I rewinded the end of the 1st qtr. play where Jamaal inbounded the ball to JT and he didn’t give it back and teague took the drive to the hoop and it was knocked away.Jamaal turned with frustration because he didn’t get the ball and headed to the bench.
Teague has to look for his shot just like everyone else is.
When the ball is rebounded by the hawks they all look to Jamaal, and even Hinrich.Teague is the last option even if he is the PG on the court at that time.

We cannot create the “Alpha Dog” in him,he has to do it and get in his own players face when they are not playing Hawk Ball!!
He is an extension of the coach and he needs to show it.
Im starting to fall in line with J from the A on Teague.
Im tired of saying he has to do this or do that, now mind u,yes,he does need burn especially when he plays well but it seems like if the game is not a blowout that the only good burn time is when his play is questionable..Then LD has the “I told u so” look about him..

Yes, Teague had three or four bad defensive possessions against Baron. He also had several good defensive possessions including the one where he forced Baron into an airball and a couple where he broke up passes leading to turnovers or forced shots, and he led at least two successful fast break opportunities. If you expect him to dominate the game every time he plays you are always going to be disappointed, but he certainly played well enough to secure a consistent role in the rotation, as he always does.

Marvin disappears more than a magician. lol. Joe or no Joe. Having a good game tonight tho. The whole team seems to play better without Joe. Maybe it’s just me???

Atleast Woodson’s reason for not playing Teague made sense. He is from the old school of not playing rookies a al Larry Brown. One of LD’s pitches for being head coach was that he would give Teague more playing time…..EPIC FAIL…..

I’ve definitely noticed more ball movement and more offensive fluidity from the Hawks tonight. Part of that is likely due to the fact that the Hawks are playing a poor defensive team. However, part of that is also the result of Joe Johnson being out, no doubt. I’m not saying the Hawks are better offensively without Joe, but the offensive execution seems to a lot more consistent and fluid when Joe is not in the lineup. That’s not a knock on Joe, since his game in Atlanta has been heavily predicated on isolation scoring, and that’s what he does best. The rest of the team, however, outside of Jamal, seems to operate pretty well in formal systems.

I can’t see why JS can’t get his second TD with no johnson. Depends on if they blow out the calfs or not.

We have a lead of 52 – 39 and there’s no reason to feel safe. The “SOFT’S” have managed to maintain the lead irregardless of the “smoove” going 0 for 6 launching from the outside. Granted, he has a double/double so far but if he continues to launch and miss we will lose. Marvin is playing sound basketball with a good shot selection. Jamal is just crazy right now, hopefully, he will settle down. Teague is having a problem with Baron Davis but that’s exactly what Jeff needs to hone his defensive skills. I would like to see Hilton Armstrong in the pivot but LD is coaching so as far as thinking goes Hilton will be limited to a very few minutes if he can get that. The 2nd half is coming up and i’m a tad nervous. I saw how they squandered a 30 point lead last night and were’re only 13 up at this point. Could be a long 2nd half but I do hope they pull this one out. If the “smoove” heaves another 0 for whatever outside the game is over and that’s a fact jack.

O”brien says:”Jamal is 1-5 though. We really need to get him going before the playoffs”

Does that mean that we must sacrifice other players burn time for Jamaal??

I don’t think so..Jamaal has been playing in this league for a while and he just has to get out of this funk..

We can design plays for him or set some screens for him as well(even though he creates his own shots).

But only when its his time to be on the court and not at the expense of an up and coming PG..

Maybe if Jamaal spent his time getting open and looking for a shot instead of playing the PG when the PG is in the game then he may get more shot opps and may perhaps become his self..

This year is the 1st time u see more of a PG playing Jamaal Crawford..More than we did last year…

He just needs to focus on Jamaal the SG instead of the Jamaal i wanna play point..And a lot of that is LD”s fault..

Leather or not?

Blowing out calfs sounds like a serious and painful grammatical injury

The concept of a volume shooting big man really annoys me, and when Josh leads the team in attempts and shoots a terrible percentage, that’s what I think of. Please Josh, show some self-restraint on the offensive end. A few ill-advised jump shots could lead to a near 10 point swing, when coupled with poor transition defense. I wish our players were more aware of that.

Teague!

Great pints of insight from all of yall about Teague.
I noticed no one comes to help him when he gets screened out on defense either. Mor team defense on the perimeter would be nice, like they did with Bibby.

Marvin plays a lot better when he does not have to defer to the “smoove” and ISO Joes POUND…POUND….POUND. Well, let’s see what the 2nd half brings. I’m a lil nervous, what about you?
