Was that Horford actually trying to back his man down in the post?
Didn’t we just discuss the “inside-out” concept yesterday night?
BTW, Josh fires an airball from the wing with 14 seconds still left on the shotclock. I don’t wanna hear that end of the shotclock bullstuff. This guy needs to learn. I don’t care who his f’n coach is, you know you can’t shoot it at a high percentage from out there, so why do you waste f’n possessions.
And truthfully, I don’t give a FFFF if they beat the sixers by 50+ tonight. This team is what it is…

It’s not just about that. The Hawks guards need to make an effort to get the ball inside, even if it is more convenient for them to just use screens and pass it around the perimeter all day. Teague actually does this when he plays.

On a back-to-back Kirk is chasing around the quickest, most active player on the other team, and he is the last to get a rest. It seems to that it is high time we addressed our needs as Hawks’ fans from a management perspective and an expectation level that is achievable for the long hurting Atlanta folks.Change may not always be great, but for our sake it is an imperative start, and it should begin with the General Manager Rick Sund.
The new GM should be tasked with these issues:
1. Making the Hawks fiscally sustainable in the short and long term. We can’t afford more Marvin William and JJ contracts.
2. Creating a plan/identity for this organization that should resonate from management to players, and to fans-something that the current PR department has failed to do.
3. Short term objectives- creating an identity, improved PR with the fan base and specifying a direction that the players, management and fans can see as a direction we are taking moving forward.
4. Long term goals-keeping us competitive for a long time by drafting well, and making trades for flexibilty. We cant afford to miss as bad as we have in the last 8 years. (6/7 times)
5.The Coach Dilemma: There are arguably 3 types of coaches; The Teacher style Coach-Hubie Brown, Doug Collins, Larry Brown.. (b) The motivator-Mike Woodson, Rick Carlisle, Avery Johnson.. (c) The Champion name-Greg Pop, Jerry Sloan, Doc Rivers and Phil Jackson… This team will probably benefit from a combo of (a) and (c), but I tend to lean on (a) for now because of cost and the teaching factor the Hawks need in order to establish an identity.(Hate him or love him-I am leaning towards Larry Brown and we can get him now for about 3-4 million )
6. Addressing the fan issue: We cannot circumvent this forever, the fact that Atlanta ranks as one of the NBA’s biggest fan T.V market and yet the local fan base at games is less than flattering must be addressed. Management must do a better PR job: 680 the Fan and 790 are supposed to be our local cradle for developing fan support (offering a platform for fan venting, reliable updates…e.t.c) These issues were brought up to Michael Cunningham on the AJC as the Hawks Beat writer during the trading deadline period last month-it is pathetic that our city has to rely on national media for better coverage on our team period. The Braves/Falcons Managers do their local runs regulary, but I cant remmeber hearing or watching Rick Sund, or maybe his status as persona non gran-ta to our hard core fans is another issue that change might address.
We have our hands full with Miami and Chicago’s future’s looking great, but we have some good things going forward, we just cannot afford to remain the same old Hawks. Last year we were arguably as close as we have ever been in a while to mirroring the Detroit team that beat the Lakers (4) Hall of Fame team.
A coach with GM experience would be a great start……Damn it, pay LB 4.5 million to play both GM/Coach, just hope he will stick around long enough for us to win it all and stay committed long enough after.

Nice look by Smoove to Marvin. Bad finish by Marvin, as you might expect.
About his drive on the previous play, it helps that a) someone else did the hard part of drawing defenders out of the lane and b) all Smoove had to do was catch the ball and take a dribble on the way to the hoop. That play was created by the post up. It’s a whole different story to ask him to actually take someone off the dribble, which he is for the most part incapable of doing.

That time Thaddeus Young allowed Smoove to contest with his left hand, and Smoove forced the miss. The previous time Young drove at Smoove right and forced him to contest with his right hand and made it over him.
Nice to see the Hawks continue attacking the rim, even with the traveling call against Joe and the somewhat out of control drive by Smoove to get to the line.

Pick and roll by Joe and Smoove to end the half. Nice. When the Hawks run plays that get players and the ball moving towards the basket they are fun to watch.

By the way, does anyone want to guess who is once again leading the team in field goal attempts? Let me just tell you, it’s, once again, Josh Smith. It seems like it’s tough to find a game (unless Josh was in foul trouble or it was a blowout) in which Josh doesn’t lead the team in attempts anymore. Personally, I think that’s a bad thing, but at least Josh has been efficient tonight.

I would rather him on the floor to defend the interior because Al hasn’t shown up since All Star weekend and I would rather him shooting than dribbling out the clock like Joe, which is why he ends up having to shoot most of the time. Pay attention to it.

What is important is that Jamal has been playing point guard for much of this time. vava74 likes to point out his defensive deficiencies, but the offense really suffers when he plays point guard too.

The Hawks GM suck. he should have at least tried to get that McGhee kid from Washington”. This hawks team beed to be broke up after the season, only keeper is Al and Teague, Jordan Crawford would have been a very nice piece for a building block as well. If you were going to trade a very good young player like Crawford, they should have made every effort to get a good young player in return. The Hawks need a good big man in the worst way. It would have been nice to have that McGhee kid in a Hawks uniform. Now what do you think about that SLEEPY.

Since the Bibby/Kirk trade: Hawks are 3-2 when Teague plays 20+ minutes, 3-8 when he doesn’t. 4-3 when Teague starts, 2-7 when he doesn’t. 2-1 with the Teague/Kirk starting back court, 4-10 without it.

“Miss me yet?????”
The difference between being exposed in the regular season and postseason would be?
With Woody, we won 50+ games, we had high hopes, and we got whopped in the playoffs. Basically, we were led on. We were fooled. We got rocked and caught a reality check in the playoffs.
With Drew, we know who we are before playoff time even comes. Winning more games just covers up what this team really is. A mediocore team that nobody’s really banking on to do much in the playoffs.
Bottom line, neither one of these coaches would get us anywhere inn the playoffs. Win all the regular season games you want with Woody. What does it lead to? Back to back 2nd round exits, and not even close to winning a game in back to back seasons. With Drew, it’s basically just a “save the bullstuff” approach. We know what kind of team this is, no need to lead Hawks fans on all the way to the playoffs before we show our true colors.
F both of them.

Isn’t it refreshing to see a coach like Doug Collins coach his guys the right way? Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young coming off the bench attacking. Doug kept telling them even when they were down to keep attacking and playing defense. Even with not much of a big to protect their rim they kept hustling and alas the results are a win!!
Why not us? Where was the bench tonight? Hinrich played almost the whole game and looked hurt at one point before the half. Josh and Marvin played hard all for not.
You need guys to play to develop a rotation, maybe Teague or Wilkins.
Please fire this fool, he couldn’t coach in my kid’s basketball league!!

Sorry to say coach Drew is nit a good coach he reminds me of my grandfather deciding if he should go fishing or looking for a place to spit out his tobacco. Josh Smith just doesn’t understand that he isn’t a jump shooter he is still trying to show other players in the league that he is a superstar!! Marvin Williams is a bust everyone should know that just from the show “hawks Live” that comes on every few days and they always spotlight him, the guys not a bonafide NBA player. Just think they got beat by two home grown guys from Ga. They won’t get out of the first round, one because they are not a good team they play soft, they shoot to many jump shots and they never have any one around the basket to rebound, and the owners are almost in the poor house they don’t have enough money to get a high caliber center (this is what they need). Jeff Teague looks like a deer caught in headlights he needs to get a real job along with the rest of the team except Al horfords and Jamal, they are the only two good looking player on the court. And who told Zaza he was a basketball player this group is out of excuses no matter what happens down the road.

One of the things I didnt like about LD last night was once again, he basically put all the blame on the players, and say Xs and Os dont have anything to do with it.

Smooves defense is what it is..
He is a great weak side/help defense shot blocker.
But only when he is playing other non athletic PF’s..His position is @the small forward and if he keeps going down low and driving to the hoop he’ll be living at the free throw line and will be getting 20pts/10+rebounds/maybe 5 assists(because of his ability to find the open man when he is down low) and hella blocks(if we get a real center that can back him up and vice versa)..
But he will only come to grips with those numbers and only, when a coach puts him at the small forward position and he comes to grips that he is not a Tracy McGrady or King James..
Would i keep Smoove next year?
If i can get a coach in here that he would respect, also get him to adjust his game like woody did last year and would not put up with his crap then yea,i would.(that is asking a lot)
If im looking for someone on the cheap like the ASG did for a coach then naw,i would trade him.
Lets not get it twisted..He is a talented player, but,he is immature with his game..

@ Sautee, my point is the Hawks should have known what they had in Jordan Crawford and not given him away for nothing. If you are going to make a trade you should do it for 2 reason, win now by filling your needs or build for the future. No way the hawks should have traded Jordan Crawford. Hinrich is not the player to put them over the top for a championship, but you will lose Jamal Crawford to free agency and Jordan Crawford would have been a very good replacement.

Jamal continues to get big minutes although he isn’t doing anything on both sides of the floor. Cant score and being abused defensively. Your leading scorer from last night didn’t even play. He is a pro and has been playing this game most of his life.He should know his own game now.He should know his weaknesses and what he can and can not do. He should be his own coach, but make the right decisions.

No one ever seems to answer this question. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen it posted before on one of the blogs here during the season. I guess the fact that people don’t answer means that L.D. is really the worst head coach in the NBA. It seems like no one outside of Kris Willis at Peachtree Hoops can even stand the guy anymore.

In his first season as a head coach, L.D. has accomplished absolutely nothing positive. However, he has managed to ruin anything that used to work. I guess that’s an accomplishment in his eyes. It doesn’t matter how healthy this squad is, L.D. will still be on the sidelines. We could have the most promising young players that a coach could ever dream of and L.D. would just misuse them and we’d still lose. Unless we had someone with an alpha-dog personality like Kobe or MJ who would ignore what the coach said, and just do what they felt was right, we’d still lose. Our team is is lead by a spineless loser, and it’s rubbing off on a group of guys who are already soft to begin with.

Do anyone out there have words to describe what we witnessed tonight? I have a few hostilities to get off my chest. LD IS STOO-PID, how could he not play Jeff Teague tonight. ISO Joe is a NO GO, the 20 million dollar DUD. Is there anyone out there that thinks Josh Smith has a fuggin brain? He is just too dumb, even when he scores 30 points the boy is still dumb and essentially useless. You folks who continue to believe that the “smoove” is worth something, I pity the fool. Management is going to let LD continue because he’s so cheap, his team plays like that also, a bunch of cheap ball players who are getting paid. We do not deserve this as fans. The “SOFT’S” need to go to the womens league and I bet they will lose there also because they are basketball idiots. Look for more whippings folks and I mean some seriously bad ones are coming. Hope this ends quickly because they are taking the life out of Al. Josh an ISO Joe needs to go, both are cancers to this team, LD is already malignant and choking the lil bit of life that’s left. Great post. I couldn’t agree more. It’s sickening what has happened to the Hawks. L.D. has made a mockery of this franchise and continues to act like he’s doing everything perfectly. He’s not only a total moron in the basketball sense, but he is so stubborn that it’s almost as if he is hellbent on proving that he is right, regardless of how badly he makes the team look. Also, he’s not only destroying the performance of the team, but he’s also hurting our players. I can only imagine how Teague feels at this point. It’s just a total disaster. L.D. needs to go ASAP. Each game gets more and more painful with L.D. on the sidelines.

SteveW,
Totally agree, this is just the craziest thing I have ever seen. Maybe LD wants out and is trying to get fired? That is the only explanation I can think of for how he coaches? Maybe LD thinks he can’t coach these guys, which is true, and wants to be fired?
This guy is running the team into the ground! No understanding whatsoever of what this guy is trying to do!
There is absolutely no consideration of defense or playing Teague or trying to control Jamal or anything!

We shouldn’t be suprised by this team’s failures. We have an ownership group that makes the Keystone Kops look competent. We have a GM who has made some of the goofiest decisions in the NBA. We’ve got a bargain basement coach who never led a team to any success. Lastly, we have a bunch of mismatched players who’ve been working for a disfunctional franchise and saw the writing on the wall before the season even started.
It’s time to burn the whole thing down, starting at the top.

my main question is why did we get an assistant from a guy we fired? i mean you fire woody for not developing young players, for only going 6-7 deep rotations and for running the iso-joe.
what do we do after we fire woody? hire his assistant who STILL doesn’t play young players, who goes 7-8 deep rotations usually, and now we have this “motion” offense that still incorporates alotta iso’s except now jj is scoring less than last couple of years, horford who was like the the team leader, but now is begginning to turn soft, josh smith is reverting back to jumpers, and Crawford is playing more and more minutes at point guard.
so i ask again, what is the benefit of hiring the assistant of the guy you fired??

ATL has history,MLK,Deion,CNN,Hartsfield Airport,UPS,cheaper gas(although it is high)..
And not only do we dominate in the rap game but in music as well..
I’ll even go pop with u and go with instate groups like the B-52’s,REM,Collective Soul,The Black Crows,38 Special(whew!! im going way back)

U see how people come here, visit, and then they come back and buy homes..They don’t do that in Houston..

What stats are you referring to? If I recall correctly, we advanced to the 2nd round in Woody’s last two seasons. We found ourselves in back to back game 7’s in the 1st round in his last two seasons. We played the Heat in the 1st round and beat them in 7 – then we played Cleveland and got rocked. We played the Bucks in the first round the following year and beat them in 7 – then got rocked by a whopping 20+ ppg. Not even close to winning a game.
Not sure what stats you’re looking for. I didn’t even really have stats in my posts, so I’m not sure why you’re stat-checking me.

houston is widely known and respected for it’s underground scene. atlanta makes weak, homo, pop songs for the mainstream. meanwhile houston has real underground rappers like trae, z-ro, k-rino, killa kyleon, and chamillionaire.
old school houston, everybody in the screwed up click was better than anything gay-t-l put out. geto boyz, ugk, lil keke, fat pat, big hawk, big moe, etc.
real hip hop.
atlanta stole crunk music from memphis and before that stole bass music from miami.
t.i. got knocked out when he came to houston in cloverland..
but forget rap.
let’s talk about atlanta’s fake, self pro claimed “capital of the south” title, even though houston AND dallas have bigger city and metro populations, better economies, better mass transit, more fortune 500 companies, more diverse populations.
atlanta is a fraud at everything they do, except having a HUGE homosexual population.

Then last night on MC’s Hawks finally settle on lineup post which he did at 9:14 pm (which I currently can’t find, but I didn’t look real hard either) LD said he wasn’t going to rest his starters when the seeding was set. I was stunned.

I said he will play less, then less, play well, and then be out of the rotation.
Called it. Unfortunately.
Over the last 21 games, or 29% of the season, the Hawks are:
7-14 .333 winning %
Only 6 teams have a worse winning % over the year.
We have been outscored by 6.9 points per game.
Only two teams have been outscored by more over the course of the year.
So for the last 29% of the season (21 games), we have been an early to mid lottery team.
Pathetic.

I agree 100% with everything Section 303 is saying.
Josh Smith is a total cancer to this team as long as he’s allowed to play and behave as LD is allowing him do do.
Don’t even remotely attempt to quote statistics in an effort to come to his defense. Please. Just don’t. If you do, you simply don’t get it. You’re not a mature basketball fan. Anyone who attends the games can see the life go out of this entire team as a result of Josh’s idiotic decisions as well as his all-around behavior and antics.
This is the same team that we’ve had the last three years. They have completely disintegrated! There are no injuries.
IT CANNOT POSSIBLY BE THE FAULT OF ANYONE OTHER THAN LARRY DREW. There is no other culprit or explanation left standing!
No ownership in professional sports, other than the ASG, would have allowed LD to coach another game after last night.

Ok a few things here. First can we being back Woody ( justing kidding )
The Hawks are a prime example of a coach who has lost his team. Who is listening to what LD is saying. This is NOT LD fault its the owners. You see all the other team making moves to get better over the last few years. And what do we do stick to the core and try to grow players. Look at who we had to grow Marvin,Al,Josh. Only Al has showed that he is a player every night. When things went wrong is with signing Marvin back, not trading Josh for Stoudemire, and resigning Joe. Keeping joe and having Stoudemire and Al that could work.If the Hawks lost to the magic by 25 ppg last year wait until this year. Oh and don’t forget Lon Kruger and guaranteed season-ticket holders that the Hawks would make the playoffs or get a $125 refund

You’re going old school with Eddie Haas Loserville USA, nicely done. J.J. isn’t exactly Koncak though, cuz J.J. can play, he just doesn’t.
I think J.J.’s way of speaking up about the situation with the team is to simply not play, he just goes through the motions because he doesn’t believe in what’s going on here. He is however taking the money.

Everytime you look at that STOO-PID face the “smoove” has when someone touches him and he cries foul. Josh Smith and ISO Joe NEEDS TO GO along with that imitation coach LD. The next game the “smoove” will play dummyball(He’s the dummy with the ball). I would hope that mamagement would tell LD to pack up and take his sorry ass on but the end of the season will suffice, as long as he goes and be Rick Sunds flunky somewhere else. Even with the lack of knowledge LD has the team should still be playing for the fans, afteral, who do they think pay their sorry asses.

It seems to me when the trade was made the Hawks lost their chemistry. The enthusiasm is not as high as it once was. They didn’t need Hinrich. They need a big body so Al can go to the 4 spot where he belongs and Josh to the 3. The Hawks might as well have kept Billy Knight, because recent decisions haven’t been any better.
