I have always said that Al can not defense any offensive minded power forwards. He is a liability at the PF position in my opinion.

At least we’re not getting blown out. The Hawks really match up well against mediocrity.

It does, however, seem like he shot his load a little bit during that win against the Bulls. He hasn’t looked remotely close to the guy who put up 31 and 16 in that game since then.

Sure enough, 7 of his 9 games since then have seen him score below his season scoring average, and he has only reached double figure boards twice in that span.

You can sense the Hawks offense starting to get more perimeter oriented. They are hitting their jumpers now. We all know what will happen when they stop hitting them.

“Hawks have no bigmen of course they are perimeter orientated”
It’s not just about that. The Hawks guards need to make an effort to get the ball inside, even if it is more convenient for them to just use screens and pass it around the perimeter all day. Teague actually does this when he plays.

At least Jamal’s presence hasn’t exactly hurt the Hawks defensively in this game. For one, he has been playing shooting guard, and also the Hawks’ perimeter D wasn’t exactly tearing it up prior to his entry.

Hawks came to play tonight. Kirk feeling offensive. Marvin chucking enough bricks to build a condo by half time.
Are the Hawks cooking with fresh fish grease tonight?
I agree with O’B, we should win tonight. Kirk came to get his shot off tonight, great cause we need scoring.

On a back-to-back Kirk is chasing around the quickest, most active player on the other team, and he is the last to get a rest. [Same EXACT story as last night.] I understand he is on a role offensively and you don’t want to interrupt his offensive flow … but I think Teague has finally earned rotational minutes. Give Kirk a breather. Bring in Teague.

Let’s face it. We could have the most talented team in the league and they’d still go nowhere in the playoffs because the ownership and coaching of this team is one of the worst in the league.

It seems to that it is high time we addressed our needs as Hawks’ fans from a management perspective and an expectation level that is achievable for the long hurting Atlanta folks.Change may not always be great, but for our sake it is an imperative start, and it should begin with the General Manager Rick Sund.
The new GM should be tasked with these issues:
1. Making the Hawks fiscally sustainable in the short and long term. We can’t afford more Marvin William and JJ contracts.
2. Creating a plan/identity for this organization that should resonate from management to players, and to fans-something that the current PR department has failed to do.
3. Short term objectives- creating an identity, improved PR with the fan base and specifying a direction that the players, management and fans can see as a direction we are taking moving forward.
4. Long term goals-keeping us competitive for a long time by drafting well, and making trades for flexibilty. We cant afford to miss as bad as we have in the last 8 years. (6/7 times)
5.The Coach Dilemma: There are arguably 3 types of coaches; The Teacher style Coach-Hubie Brown, Doug Collins, Larry Brown.. (b) The motivator-Mike Woodson, Rick Carlisle, Avery Johnson.. (c) The Champion name-Greg Pop, Jerry Sloan, Doc Rivers and Phil Jackson… This team will probably benefit from a combo of (a) and (c), but I tend to lean on (a) for now because of cost and the teaching factor the Hawks need in order to establish an identity.(Hate him or love him-I am leaning towards Larry Brown and we can get him now for about 3-4 million )
6. Addressing the fan issue: We cannot circumvent this forever, the fact that Atlanta ranks as one of the NBA’s biggest fan T.V market and yet the local fan base at games is less than flattering must be addressed. Management must do a better PR job: 680 the Fan and 790 are supposed to be our local cradle for developing fan support (offering a platform for fan venting, reliable updates…e.t.c) These issues were brought up to Michael Cunningham on the AJC as the Hawks Beat writer during the trading deadline period last month-it is pathetic that our city has to rely on national media for better coverage on our team period. The Braves/Falcons Managers do their local runs regulary, but I cant remmeber hearing or watching Rick Sund, or maybe his status as persona non gran-ta to our hard core fans is another issue that change might address.
We have our hands full with Miami and Chicago’s future’s looking great, but we have some good things going forward, we just cannot afford to remain the same old Hawks. Last year we were arguably as close as we have ever been in a while to mirroring the Detroit team that beat the Lakers (4) Hall of Fame team.
A coach with GM experience would be a great start……Damn it, pay LB 4.5 million to play both GM/Coach, just hope he will stick around long enough for us to win it all and stay committed long enough after.
