Hawks-Pistons game thread

Greetings, all

Hope you’re well. I commend your loyalty if you’re spending a Sunday afternoon with this team (which, if you’re reading this, I presume you are).

A few notes, and on to the game.

1) Your team’s lineup: Al Horford, Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, Kirk Hinrich, Joe Johnson. Larry Drew said he went with the lineup to match up with Detroit’s size in the backcourt.

2) Drew: “We’ve got to bring a physical style to the way we play. We can’t be a soft team.” I’ll leave it to you to connect the dots. Jeff Schultz is here for a column, and I gather his column will do that for you.

3) I asked Drew Saturday about the possibility of starting blog fave Damien Wilkins. “At this point, I won’t rule out anything. I do love what he brings to the table. His competitiveness, particularly on the guy that he’s defending. He’s one of our best defenders. But he plays with a physical style and I like that and we need that early in the game.”

I’m going to guess that addressing the possibility of Wilkins starting with “I won’t rule out anything” isn’t exactly an endorsement of it becoming a reality.

4) Hopefully you read my story about the Hawks’ leaders not being the types to confront and police one another.

5) Enjoy the game.

Old Fool!

Ok, I’m convinced. Wisdom does not automatically come with age. This rusty guy purports that he is 71 years, but his comments come across more like a 17 year old with delayed puberty. So, the respect for my elders, old fools included, comes off the table in this instance.

You Sir, are a child in an old man’s body if, you are indeed 71.

Breaking News! Ta Dah!

The New Jersey Nets PG, Deron Williams has an injured wrist and is out for 3 games. Earlier this week? It was reported he would be out till next season. So, if one scrub Wizard team (featuring John Wall) beat the other scrub team (w/o Deron Williams) — So What!
Now go take your pills, your Geritol and go back to sleep!

So I thought the game started at 7pm and I’d make it right after work. Apparently not when I went on NBA.com and saw the score. Was a bit irritated but nothing big. Went to the box score…saw a DNP next to Teagues name…and boy was I ticked.

Heres the thing, blog is mentioning how teams shorthen their rotations as playoffs draw near. That sunderstandable, but we wont go anywhere in the playoffs with Wilkins, Jamal, and Zaza. Teague should be in there getting more playing time, becuase thats the guy that will be the most help in getting playoff wins.

Has there been a reason as to why Teague did’nt play?

your right superiorblogman, the hinrich trade was an awful move. I guess we should have just stuck with Bibby…. because if that trade didn’t happen bibby would still be our starting pg.

Mike Bibby did more for this team than Hinrich ever will. The Hawks took the next step forward after Bibby came, they are taking the next step backwards after Hinrich. You can love Hinrich and what he looks like and represents all you wish, but the truth is the truth. Hinrich was a awful move for the Hawks in every way possible

Other than the Hawks arguably gave up a little too much for Kirk, it was a great move.
[I wish the Hawks did not give up JC2 and a 1st rounder. It would have been nice to keep JC2 as insurance just in case the Hawks either (a) don't resign JC1 or (b) cannot pick up another decent G at a cheap price.]

And to echo the sentiments of other bloggers: What is up with Teague’s DNP-CD decision tonight? For most of the season, I have had no problems with LD not playing Teague much. Teague simply was not ready for major minutes. But his performances lately suggest he is ready for consistent rotational minutes.

Dude Kirk has done nothing on the floor to prove this being a great move. The Hawks have a losing record with this dude, explain to me how it is a great move other than perception, the reality which is shown in wins and losses and ticket sales have shown that Kirk has not helped anything. The team has a worse winning percentage with Kirk than without.

Yeah, we accomplished a lot today by beating a bunch of bums who are ready for the season to be over so they can get a real coach and a lottery pick. These are the type of things that happen when you get a coach and front office with no short term nor long term vision. You give away 2 1st round picks for a guy that does not make you better in any way and further deflate your teams moral

We allowed Detroit to shoot 50%. Yay!

We only had to play Al 43 minutes, JJ 42 minutes, and Josh 40 minutes to beat a lottery team by single digits at home. Great Win!!!!

Let’s see, Detroit has lost on the road recently to:

Denver by 30 in their last road game.

They haven’t won a road game since they beat the mighty Cavs on Feb. 9th.

Man I’m getting primed and pumped about this team.

Go Hawks! Go LD!

Never play Teague again. Rumor has it LD, Teague said you were to skinny, and your eyes are sunk back in your head. Who needs Teague when you got Jamal!!??

Bring on DRose and keep Jeff Teague on the bench! Jamal the reigning SMOY can handle him. And so can the guy he lost his job to. Look how they dominated him last time.

Keep Teague glued to the bench. He deserves it!

I mean just because Hinrich lost his job to DRose by no means signifies that DRose is better than Hinrich. They just had an idiot Coach in Del Negro who couldn’t evaluate talent.

So let Hinrich and Jamal stick to that punk, who thinks he’s a MVP candidate, who has brought the pretender Bulls a little past the surging Hawks In the standings to this point (but the years not over you loser Bulls). They’ll teach that little punk a thing or two about real NBA defense. Just watch and see.

Hope LD doesn’t play Teague. That could get him fired.

@superiorblogman- JACKASS.
what now?

We all can agree, when we got Bibby he did take us to the next step, but are you saying that was a good enough reason to keep him? Because he USED to be good let’s keep starting him? You’re starting to sound like LD.. lol, LD jr.
and we all know the first half of our season was cake compared to the second, and our record would be even worse if we still had bibby.
its not hinrich vs. teague just like it was never bibby vs. teague. That trade is all about hinrich vs. bibby and who is better at the point. if you think we shouldnt have done the trade and kept bibby then you are an even bigger moron than i first thought. and we still have a seasoned vet to help teague along. as good as he is he’s not great, and definitely needs someone there to help him tweak his game. It would have been nice to have been able to keep the pick but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Of course our 7 man (with the exception of 3 minutes by Wilkens) is what good teams start doing this time of year, shortening their rotations.

The Trailblazers have only played 9 guys tonite, with 6 minutes being the least.

The Lakers have played 10 guys, with 9 minutes to go in the 4th.

The Knicks shortened their rotation by only playing 10 guys

The Suns only played 10

Houston only played 9

OKC played 10 players

Dallas was down to 11 players that played today

Last game, the Heat only played 11

Denver played 10

The Celts did only play 8, but only 1 played over 36 minutes, and all played at least 19. They do happen to have both the O’Neal’s out inured

The Griz played 11

The Spurs played 12 folks

The Sixers played 10

Yep, all the good, playoff teams are starting to shorten their rotations. They’ll probably still play all their guys 35+ minutes after they’ve clinched their playoff seeding.

No, LD is the only Coach poor enough, bad enough to shorten his rotation to really 7.

Injuries, players not performing, Drew not playing Teague, JC2 taking 27 shots per on a losing team, Sund on vacation, ASKG being the equivalent of 8 orangutans throwing feces, Mr. Woodson’s spirit lingering in the rafters throwing hexes on the basket and still calling plays from his living room couch:

I really don’t care why it is, but The Hawks have certainly regressed since last season. Now what? What’s next?

Do we become a dark horse, a sleeper team in the play offs and surprise some people. Can we! Will we? Will their fans show up and cheer or stay true to their boo?

Tonight Jordon Crawford tallied 21 points alongside John Wall. Can we say one helluva tandem in years to come. LD and HAWKS management have no clue about basketball. The same brain trust is watching a cheap coach possibly ruin a budding superstar in Jeff Teague and a solid big man in Hilton Armstrong. We all know LD is through, the question is WHEN? As soon as possible is way to late. I really wanted to give LD a chance but he is dumb man, just a 2nd tier assistant coach. On a good note Jamal played within the offense and i’d much rather see him launch 3 pointers within the confines of the offense then that “smoove” person. By the way the “smoove” hit a few lucky ones in the last 3 minutes, he’s gonna be bigtime “STOO-PID” now, which is scary. ISO Joe POUNDED some but not as much and is becoming more aggressive going to the hoop. Twenty mill should be a reason to run over Shaq’s bigass. Marvin may be tired of starvin, he’s trying and is scoring, could that be confidence? Hell if you watch Josh launch and miss you gotta know that you can shoot better. We play Chicago tuesday and it’s no sense in even thinking LD has a game plan, the man has no clue but let’s see if the players can tighten up on defense and hope their basketball acumen comes into play.

Hawks -vs- Bulls:

Larry Drew turns to yet another starting line-up strategy:
[1] = Joe
[2] = D.Wilkins
[3] = Josh
[4] = Al
[5] = Jason Collins

LD will dub this his really, really big lineup.

Drmaryb when we lost to the nets Williams was still in Utah. Jc2 will be a star in this league very quickly, for ld to play mo over him was completely dumb, just like ld playing jc1 over jt,the only way er can complete is for us to run the floor, we certainly don’t have a chance playing a half court game.kh is not that type of pg

Sunday was Jamally Wally’s 31st birthday. Uncle Larry couldn’t let mean ol’ Jeffy Weffy Teague take minutes away from LD’s fav. No way.

Just checked the stats. Didn’t realize just how horrid Jamal has been playing.

He shot 37.5% in Feb., 31.7% from 3, only 2.6 assists per game in Feb.

March is not much better: 41.3% shooting, 31.8% from 3, and 3 assists per game.

He’s only averaging 11.9 and 11.7 ppg in Feb. and March also.

Maybe he’s just not aging well?

Concerning Joe,I was wondering if his lack of desire to take the ball to the hoop,like Wade,Kobe,and Brone is because of that fall he took while he was a Sun?He seems to avoid contact when he is near the basket instead of accepting contact and getting fouled.Joe is a big dude and with his ability to get in t he paint,he should be shooting more FT’S,but he fades,instead of leaning into his man and getting fouled. Come on Man,Joe,take it to the hoop and take it straight,instead of fading.

Drew used a three-guard lineup at times in large measure because he said he’s trying to help reserve Jamal Crawford break out of a slump. Crawford made three-of-eight shots for nine points — his third single-digit scoring game in the past four, including a scoreless outing in Friday’s loss to the Heat..

After reading this on the other blog, I had to post it over here. LD makes no sense to me. To help Jamal break out of a shooting slump, LD gave him more minutes at backup PG?

Atlanta reserve guard Jeff Teague, who recently started three straight games with Kirk Hinrich moving over to shooting guard, Joe Johnson from shooting guard to small forward, and Marvin Williams to the bench, did not play. In Friday’s loss to the Heat, he did not play in the first half.

Drew explained: “Jeff has done a great job since the trade.. I really wanted to look at a few things and put him in the lineup [last week]. When we made the trade, we brought Kirk Kinrich in here to run things. I think I really need to get into that frame of mind as we get down the stretch. Kirk is going to be our point guard. Jeff will find some minutes.”.

How is he supposed to find minutes? If Jamal gets injured? If the team is up or down by 20?

Its only his first year, but I might need to get one of Clyde’s T-Shirts for LD.

You know I think we’ve all giving LD the benefit of the doubt on several occasions throughout the season, but at this point status quo has become stagnant and predictable. We get it LD, you’ve been a assistant long enough and you ain’t going back!!! Unfortunately, coach you gotta look at the big picture…the future starts this year for this franchise moving forward. 2011-12 looks like this….. JC1 gone, JC2 (balling in DC), no 1st rd pick to compensate for those losts, JJ looking more like a SF than SG, and J Smooth excited about building on his less than spectacular jumper. The pros to this situation is that we finally know what to do with Marvin (a productive bench player who will takeover JC1 point production next year…yeah right) and Teague who will still be looking looking to break into the regular rotation (definitely through no fault of his own), and last be not least Capt. Kirk, who’s a player every teams love to have but is shipped off the first chance they get. However this is a pro because both Chi and Wash pgs elevated their games w/ Capt. Kirk on the roster so Teague should be next in line. YOU HEARD IT HEAR FIRST!!!!

Ive seen ALL the teams play in the NBA this season and I am convinced the HAWKS HAVE THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. Since the Hinrich trade, however, the Hawks have been playing some of the worst basketball in the league just barely playing better than the Cleveland Caviliers. The Hawks have but 12 games remaining. All the Hawks have to do to get their confidence back is to win 10 out of their last 12 games, go 10-2 and finish with 50 wins. I think if the Hawks can accomplish that they will have the impetus and the momentum to propell them into winning the NBA championship. GOOD LUCK!
