Hawks-Heat game thread

Greetings, all-

Hope all are well. Ken here. A few notes, some Mike Bibby quotes and we’ll get it rolling.

1) Larry Drew said it’ll be the big lineup. Jason Collins, Al Horford, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Kirk Hinrich.

2) Drew didn’t say he was committed to starting Jeff Teague with the “regular” lineup. He said it was still to be determined. It sounded like Teague would be the designated starter against teams with small, quick point guards.

3) Drew said he wants the team to be more committed to running, particularly after the rather sedentary effort against Denver. Other keys: defending the 3-point line, not letting the non-Bosh/James/Wade guys go off, rebound well, force Miami to defend.

4) Drew on Horford: “We definitely have to get him more shot attempts, we’ve got to get him more touches and we’ll try to get him back on track tonight.”

5) Some Bibby quotes:

On buying out his Washington contract: “It is (a risk), but you never know if there’s going to be a lockout or not. There’s a lot of talk about that. I just felt that being here would be a better situation for me as far as giving myself another chance to even get another contract. I just felt it was a better decision for me to be here.”

On the trade:  “This is a business. They felt they needed to change the point guard position and that’s what they did. Somebody’s trash is somebody else’s treasure.”

On coming off the bench: “I don’t mind that. I like to win games regardless of how things go down. I don’t worry myself with points, shots, stuff like that. I just do whatever it takes to help win the game.”

Enjoy the game…

We owe the guy 1.5 mill for losing 2 first picks, and destroying a 3rd seed 53 win team. Wow

northcyde,

“Not a single fan on here was talking about adding Damien Wilkins to this team during the summer. .

I disagree. Some fans were suggesting Damien (because they remember how he goes off against the Hawks when he was with Seatlle). That being said, most of us fans wanted the hawks to sign another wing. Some of the other names thrown out there were Rodney Cairney and Matt Barnes.

But typical Rick, didnt do anything until his hand was forced.

Naw James, I think LD will avoid the post game interview tonight. I predict the Hawks will have a team only meeting tonight cause Detroit is up next. LOL!!

“Does it really matter at this point? Does this team inspire any confidence in their ability to win a game, let alone a series, against Orlando OR Miami?”

Not really at this point I’d probably rather match up with either the Bulls or Celtics, because if this team wants to be respected maybe they’ll show up a little and compete against the good teams.

“Bibby blows by Teague”
___________

That must be it, Teague giving bad blow jobs = no p.t.
(suck Jeff! suck! Blow is just a figure of speech!)

O’Brien – I think that was because of salary cap.

But LD did have us bring Pape Sy over and spend a wad of cash on that didn’t he?

I guess Steve

Just like how Pop turned Salim into a great shooter.

Just like how Doc turned Shelden into a great PF.

I’m not going to bash Teague tonight. He should’ve played early in that 2nd quarter, while the game was still in the balance.

What I want to hear from Drew tonight, is not to dish out blame to his players, I want him to take the blame for not coaching better.

Even if the blame IS on the players, I want him to take some responsibility tonight.

Nortcyde – I’ve said all along Salim and Acie are not in Teague’s class. Teague is way better. I guess time will tell who was right.

Or if he turns out good, you’ll say it was something else, but he still stunk now. How convenient.

CP . . . the point that Samuel is making, is that what went down last year WASN’T Woody’s fault. As you can see right now, we either have a gross deficiency in talent . . or our sacred “core” is nowhere near as good as people think they are ( talking about all 3 of our star players ) . . or both.

But what Woody constantly preached to these guys, was to rebound and play some damn defense . . at ALL TIMES.

Why?

Because he knew that it was the weak point of the team,

With this squad, everyone thought that a great offensive system would solve everything. The vaunted “Pentagle Offense” in which we get balanced scoring from everyone, like we were the Celtics or somebody.

It was fools gold all the way.

Words cannot express how badly I want Drew to be fired. Enough is enough, he’s completely destroying our team and players. Josh is becoming a brick-laying, jump shot addict, Al’s stats are plummeting and he’s playing further and further from the basket (at the coach’s request), Teague is riding the pine even though he is better than every PG on the roster, just because L.D. doesn’t like him. This coach is garbage, please get rid of him. I don’t even want to buy tickets anymore, and 90% of the reason is that I can’t stand watching L.D. screw up this team.

“Oh, unless Larry Brown gets another HC job and hires him as an assistant.”

The Hawks fired one assistant for another assistant, while other teams in the conference have legit coaches (even the Knicks and the much-maligned Mike D’Antoni).

Second rate ownership, second rate coaches, second rate max player, second rate supporting cast, second rate team. And the fans get called out for not supporting this team? Please.

whoa…..

4th quarter with 4:38 to go and I am still watching.

I am newbie to the community but agree with most as being a long time NBA guy, LD is wayyyyy over his head. He has not clue and his team clearly does not believe in him. With that said, being a newbie, will this ownership group or GM do anything or will they just stick with him for financial reasons? As I said, I felt the team had more fight in them when Woodson was here but it was clear that he lost the team in the playoffs. I just think the team has too much potential to let it just regress as they have clearly regressed from last year. We had one of the best home court advantages in the league last year and now we pretty much get blown out each game. It is not the fact we are losing, we are getting blown out and not even competing which is not acceptable with level of talent.

The other issue is leadership on the court. Who is the clear leader of this team?

BTW, desired starting line-up since it is the fad of the day:

PG – Teague
SG – Johnson
SF – Smith
PF – Horford (please!!!! the man is not a center, as a C he is an all-star but as a PF, he could be the one of the best PF in the league)
C – Za Za (the guy defends the paint and fights for rebound. Don’t run anything for him offensively)

Typical…

No worries though, we got Kirk Hinrich and are a temporarily improved squad.

How much have we improved? Just take a look at our performance tonight. A tough loss, right?

Sike. Another night…

I’d rather the Hawks just be a 50-loss team and earn a top draft pick to *try* and land a legit stud. I know our luck with the draft is miserable, but I’ll take my chances with that than continue down this road of mediocority.

LOL @ Steve . . . I wanted Avery here. I was never on the Drew hiring wagon.

The only thing I said before the season, was that if this team didn’t progress, don’t place all of the blame on Drew like people did Woody.

Drew is definitely part of the problem, but these players can’t continue to go out like this.
