Hawks-Heat game thread

Greetings, all-

Hope all are well. Ken here. A few notes, some Mike Bibby quotes and we’ll get it rolling.

1) Larry Drew said it’ll be the big lineup. Jason Collins, Al Horford, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Kirk Hinrich.

2) Drew didn’t say he was committed to starting Jeff Teague with the “regular” lineup. He said it was still to be determined. It sounded like Teague would be the designated starter against teams with small, quick point guards.

3) Drew said he wants the team to be more committed to running, particularly after the rather sedentary effort against Denver. Other keys: defending the 3-point line, not letting the non-Bosh/James/Wade guys go off, rebound well, force Miami to defend.

4) Drew on Horford: “We definitely have to get him more shot attempts, we’ve got to get him more touches and we’ll try to get him back on track tonight.”

5) Some Bibby quotes:

On buying out his Washington contract: “It is (a risk), but you never know if there’s going to be a lockout or not. There’s a lot of talk about that. I just felt that being here would be a better situation for me as far as giving myself another chance to even get another contract. I just felt it was a better decision for me to be here.”

On the trade:  “This is a business. They felt they needed to change the point guard position and that’s what they did. Somebody’s trash is somebody else’s treasure.”

On coming off the bench: “I don’t mind that. I like to win games regardless of how things go down. I don’t worry myself with points, shots, stuff like that. I just do whatever it takes to help win the game.”

Enjoy the game…

Something is going on behind the scenes with Drew and Teague, that people aren’t talking about. Because when Armstrong gets in before Teague, and Hinrichand Jamal aren’t playing that great.

HAHA @ the announcer trying to get the crowd to say “Lets go Hawks”. The crowd wasn’t even feeling it.

Oh well . . down 13. It could’ve been worse.

This game is the reason why I sit at home and watch the games on atdhe.me. I’m not about to waste my money to watch the Hawks get blown out. I’d rather give my money to a single mother who dances at Onyx.

was my preferred lineup..

w/ a Kirk, Jamal, Marvin, Al/Josh/ZaZa bench looking solid..

The starters were up 15-12 when Jamal came into the game. Jamal was replaced by Damien for 5 minutes in which the point differential stayed constant. In those minutes when Jamal was in the game, the Heat were +16.

I know I’m stealing vava74’s thunder, but he has never been more right about Jamal than tonight.

Because when Armstrong gets in before Teague, and Hinrich and Jamal aren’t playing that great, and Teague STILL doesn’t get in . . . something is going on.

I wonder if Teague talks under his breath or something, or if Drew just doesn’t like the kid ( but he believes in him ).

God knows I’m not on the Teague bandwagon, but this is a game where you basically have to try everything.

Northcyde – It’s called incompetence – and especially afraid if Teague did well against Bibby tonight – think about it.

But you must have been an ideal player, benefit of 1000’s of doubts to the coach…

there are just bad coaches out there

Hey LD, maybe if you actually played a PG in the PG slot, Jamal wouldn’t have to force all these shots in the second unit and he could actually be effective. Also LD maybe the PG could speed up the game and create easy baskets in transition, but you wouldn’t do that would you LD, you just want to make the best coaching decisions I’ve seen, keep it up LD.

We’re getting destroyed on the glass in this game. We’ve only got 13 rebounds for the entire half. Part of that has to do with the fact that Miami is shooting the ball extremely well, and we haven’t been pursuing offensive rebounds. However, it’s unacceptable to be out-rebounded this badly by a team which doesn’t even have any dominant rebounding big men. It’s just unacceptable. Period. Rebounding has been a huge issue for the Hawks lately, and Al and Josh really need to step it up on the glass, especially Al. His rebounding lately has been disgraceful. Everyone needs to start attacking the glass more, but it starts with our big men.

Miami only has 2 offensive boards, same as the Hawks. Yes, some offensive boards from the Hawks would be great (although, of course, those are tougher to get when you are constantly shooting jump shots). The reason Miami’s rebounding total is so much higher than the Hawks’ rebounding total is because Miami has only missed 14 shots, whereas the Hawks have missed 23 shots. That almost perfectly correlates with the rebounding differential.

In fact, when you factor in the turnover margin, the Hawks have actually gotten more possessions than the Heat have. Unfortunately, the Hawks have done jack sh-t with their possessions while the Heat have used their possessions efficiently.

Dude, already getting blown out by Miami at home. And the missed free throws. This Hawks team, and I use the word “team” loosely, has absolutely no focus. Why in the heck is Josh Smith taking long air balls & bricks again? Where is Teague? Where is the ball sharing? The Hawks are good at talk and that’s about it.

The sad thing about that first half is that LeBron wasn’t even really being that aggressive offensively. No dunks and only two layups out of his 8 shots. If he or Wade actually starts driving to the hoop, the Hawks are really screwed.

Small silver lining: the rest of the Heat minus LeBron are only 11/25. So if the Hawks somehow manage to slow LeBron down (BY PLAYING DAMIEN MORE MAYBE???!?!!?!?!?!?!!?) maybe they have a chance to make a comeback.

OK, I’m going to Wal-Mart now to see the pedophiles.
Maybe I can corner one and beat his brains in, if he holler? I won’t let him go!

My defense will be offensive, then I can pick up 42″ Sony Flat Screen, I just kicked my picture tube in at home.

How’s that for energy and intensity?

LeBron missed the 3, but he was wide open.

My question is, why do coaches feel obligated to start the same lineup the second half no matter what they do the first half?
