Hawks-Heat game thread

Greetings, all-

Hope all are well. Ken here. A few notes, some Mike Bibby quotes and we’ll get it rolling.

1) Larry Drew said it’ll be the big lineup. Jason Collins, Al Horford, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Kirk Hinrich.

2) Drew didn’t say he was committed to starting Jeff Teague with the “regular” lineup. He said it was still to be determined. It sounded like Teague would be the designated starter against teams with small, quick point guards.

3) Drew said he wants the team to be more committed to running, particularly after the rather sedentary effort against Denver. Other keys: defending the 3-point line, not letting the non-Bosh/James/Wade guys go off, rebound well, force Miami to defend.

4) Drew on Horford: “We definitely have to get him more shot attempts, we’ve got to get him more touches and we’ll try to get him back on track tonight.”

5) Some Bibby quotes:

On buying out his Washington contract: “It is (a risk), but you never know if there’s going to be a lockout or not. There’s a lot of talk about that. I just felt that being here would be a better situation for me as far as giving myself another chance to even get another contract. I just felt it was a better decision for me to be here.”

On the trade:  “This is a business. They felt they needed to change the point guard position and that’s what they did. Somebody’s trash is somebody else’s treasure.”

On coming off the bench: “I don’t mind that. I like to win games regardless of how things go down. I don’t worry myself with points, shots, stuff like that. I just do whatever it takes to help win the game.”

Enjoy the game…

Just my opinion but maybe the Hawks will play better in the playoffs. The East is alot tougher this year, so playoff seeding will probably make little difference.

The only problem with this is you need to go into the playoffs with some sort of momentum and the Hawks have been off for a couple months.

Jordan Crawford took 27 shots tonight for 25 points, oh buddy.

When this kid learns how to get to the line frequently and becomes confident with his 3pt shot, look out!

Not sure how things are going to go with them next season, Nick Young is the equivalent of JC2, but those two can put up points quickly.

All these cute analogies don’t erase the facts. We won 53 games last year and will be luck to win 43 this year. We at least made it to the second round the last 2 years. This year does anybody actually believe we have a chance to win even a first round series. We traded away 2 first round picks for a journeyman guard but yall won’t admitt we fuc_ed up. WOW!!

Hinrich trade was so horrible Jordan Crawford with another 25 pts. Hinrich really turned this thing around, yeah right. Jordan Crawford is a good piece for the future, true.

We traded Jamal Crawford, Mike Bibby and a 1st round pick for Kirk Hinrich. Give me a break. That’s probably will end up on the level of getting rid of Jason terry before it’s all said and done.

After watching those two go at it in practice for 1.5 years, I guess Drew had seen all those possibilities. I’m guessing.

I screamed at the TV for him to put Jeff in there, but I guess he had the volume in his head turned off.

This type of effort is just disheartening when you sacrifice and go to a bar or make sure u are at home to watch the team u luv give a piss poor performance, CONSISTENTLY!!. There is no use of rehashing the same points over and over, SO……………

As fans, we have the loudest voice, yet we are to passive as well to get things to change. Drastic times calls for drastic measures. I say we show up with bags on our heads, Anti-Larry Drew signs, Boo JJ everytime he touches the ball(he will demand a trade outta here!!!!!!!!!!!) Good Riddance, and whatever else that can be done that wont get u arrested or kicked out of the arena. WE MUST SHOW THAT WE CARE ENOUGH TO COME TO THE GAMES BUT DEMAND A BETTER PRODUCT!

The Hawks are 5-8 since trading Bibby for Hinrich. They were 34-22 before trading Bibby for Hinrich. Meaning the Hawks have won 38% of there games with Kirk Hinrich and they won 60% of there games before him. Those are facts. The facts say that the team is worse without Kirk if you look at winning percentages. I know people will say we have had a tough schedule but that is an excuse. If you say we have had a tough schedule and let Hinrich off the hook for being a lateral move at best (I think he is a backwards move) that basically means you can’t tell rather he is a good move until next year because the schedule was going to be tough from the all-star break until the end of the season including playoffs. That was a horrible move Jordan Crawford has been bigger for Washington that Mr. Lateral Move has been for the Hawks. I hope we can trade his contract this summer because he is the last thing the Hawks need, another overpaid player on a team who is not willing to spend money anyway.

Yeah, man! I wish Charles Barkley could coach our Hawks! He would prolly throw Josh through a plate glass window down at The Velvet Room though. “Charles don’t give a damn … Go on, throw it up!”

He’ll prolly be drinking in the locker room and trying to get blowed by a team dancer, while the players take craps in the johns.
I would love to hear his half-time speech! LOL!
___________

Hey Paradise, what ever happened to having HOF’ers address the team before games, to motivate the guys before some big games? Does any coach do that in the NBA? The NFL does it all the time. Does the owners ever do it here, or Sund do it here? If they need a new voice? Go get one! Ask Arthur Blank to do it, he was here for that Denver Debacle.

Najeh, northcyde,

How many games would Woody have won last year if he had to deal with the injuries LD has dealt with?

This year, Al, Josh, Marvin, Mo, Jamal and JJ have all missed time. Last year, we were probably the healthiest team in the NBA.

O'Brien

Samuel,

Rick Sund was the only one who thought the problem was all Woody. Most fans wanted Woody replaced, but we also wanted a trade to change the culture on the team.

These players tuned Woody out last year, so its not all Woody’s fault. And these same players have tuned LD out already (imo).

inferiorblogman,

you don’t think things through sometime. every contender and their mother wants guys like Hinrich, high bbal IQ defensive leaders with playoff experience. Bibby was pretty much immovable and playing god awful for the Hawks. So, if you didn’t want the trade, you must have wanted 33 year old Mike Bibby hobbling down the court forcing the other 4 guys to play twice as hard on D for another year? How do you ever enforce a culture of holding people accountable on defense when you start Bibby for political reasons? Trying to get PT from LD and Woody is like trying to get PT on the varsity team when you’re younger and better than the starting PG but he’s the coaches son.

Bibby starting = coaches son politics, anyone who played organized sports as a kid knows it

No one on the Hawks really seems to know how to play basketball and they are immune to learning how to adjust. LD also doesn’t know how to play Hinrich at PG. He loves stupid gimmick offenses and stupid gimmicky offensive players like Jamal. If you watch college basketball you know that players like Jordan and Jamal Crawford come into the NBA every year. Get over him already he’s not the second coming of D Wade.

I’m in Miami right now, drove by a billboard that said Hawks vs Heat at 7:30 tonight. It is getting really hard to continue rooting for such mediocrity. We have a couple of good players that are fun to watch but JJ’s contract, instead of just being a bad contract, has really locked this team in as a 6-8 seed.

“How many games would Woody have won last year if he had to deal with the injuries LD has dealt with?”

Good point. And on the flip side, the Celtics missed a lot of games due to injury last year, which contributed to the Hawks sweeping the Celtics 4-0 and getting the 3 seed over them in the first place.

Some people can’t and won’t admit that Woody were a better coach. They were so high on LD when he was hired that he would take the Hawks to another level. That part they were right he took them a level below.

From the new hawks article;

“Among coach Larry Drew’s objectives for the team were to rebound well, move the ball on offense to make Miami work and to score points in transition.

The Hawks were outrebounded 50-27, repeatedly tossed up jump shots early in the shot clock and showed little urgency to run after Miami misses or turnovers.” Ken Sugiura.

LD is a bad coach. So was Woody. Woody was a better motivator and disciplinarian. I forget which player, a guy i hold in high regard, stated that the purpose of the coach was simply to make sure his team was motivated and into the game emotionally, that the players really need a coach amongst them for things to actually get done on the court.

1000’s of you have stated this, but i’ll say it again, Spirit group ruined the dynamic of this team when it gave a leader who don’t lead or sell tickets the most money. our team is merely an extension of its best player….

Well another game of “DUMBALL, the “SOFT’S” are just a sad and bad team and LD is no coach, will never be a coach and he cannot even imitate a coach. I’ll watch the rest of the season and if we luck up and get into the playoffs I will torture myself with that also. That’s how it is with fans, but, in the offseason lockout or not, they must get rid of that “smoove” person. He is jus to STOO-PID”, to ever learn the game of basketball. I’ve watched Jamal the past 2 years now and I was a big fan but now I understand why he has been on a few teams. I would not resign him, I would rather have a strong defensive player like Damien Wilkins. We have to keep ISO Joe, there’s not another team that idiotic to pay him that kind of money but that “smoove” person an Jamal is 22 mill we could use. Marvin would have to go to the weight room and a strong routine over the summer if he wants to play. Hilton Armstrong may get a chance with a real coach and Jeff teague also. Zsa Zsa is another big we keep and Al is solid, just needs the weight room. It’s time to purge and smoove should be the first to go.

Yea miss mary,
Tell Bibby that Nunna thought he shoulda been gone a long time ago..
Tell Josh that he needs to leave the 3 pointers and jump shots alone and i don’t care if he is having a great nite doing it either.
Also, ask Josh if he really listens to LD?
Also:
Who is the most vocal in the locker room?
Do any of the players pay attention to Drew?
Why he almost never gives the ball to the PG after he rebounds?
Whats the real deal with how the team feels about Teague?
Whats the real deal with how the team feels about LD?
Why have they went away from ball movement and more back into jump shooters gone wild?
Why does Jamaal have to bring the ball up when Teague is in the game(is it a coach’s decision)?
If he is tired of LD’s comments about their play (when we see on tv how when they make mistakes he
tells Coach Conner) instead of standing up and barking out corrections they should implement right then.

And last 2…
Which of his mates has confided in him that they don’t won’t to return here next year and is he one of them?

And,if he thinks LD will be back next year??

Get him drunk 1st,then i bet he’ll talk..

Haven’t been on board, watchin’ the Dawgs.

Hawks in ‘10 waited ’til the playoffs to quit.
‘11 Hawks quit by my recollection…..on Feb 8 this season.
*[ the Philadelphia game home]
After new year:
the Hawks began 12 and 4 / prior to Feb 8th
since, the Hawks are 12 and 6.
*[8 losses by doule digits or blow-outs]
*[4 of their 6 wins were 3 pts or less / or OT]

The Hawks are too small.
They can’t or won’t rebound.
They need A true Big, nay two true Bigs.
*[everyone knows that,,,,,Now,,,,,I hope]
They need ”men” who will rebound regardless of position!
Team Jump Shot is the most apt yet funniest moniker ever…ever !

Tonight I watced Josh (and others) look at open cutters,
disregard and then launch.

This is a team of quitters.
Most must go…sooner than later.

When all is said and done,
All has been said and done.

The Dawgs fought until the final buzzer, bless ‘em.
