Hawks-Heat game thread

Greetings, all-

Hope all are well. Ken here. A few notes, some Mike Bibby quotes and we’ll get it rolling.

1) Larry Drew said it’ll be the big lineup. Jason Collins, Al Horford, Josh Smith, Joe Johnson, Kirk Hinrich.

2) Drew didn’t say he was committed to starting Jeff Teague with the “regular” lineup. He said it was still to be determined. It sounded like Teague would be the designated starter against teams with small, quick point guards.

3) Drew said he wants the team to be more committed to running, particularly after the rather sedentary effort against Denver. Other keys: defending the 3-point line, not letting the non-Bosh/James/Wade guys go off, rebound well, force Miami to defend.

4) Drew on Horford: “We definitely have to get him more shot attempts, we’ve got to get him more touches and we’ll try to get him back on track tonight.”

5) Some Bibby quotes:

On buying out his Washington contract: “It is (a risk), but you never know if there’s going to be a lockout or not. There’s a lot of talk about that. I just felt that being here would be a better situation for me as far as giving myself another chance to even get another contract. I just felt it was a better decision for me to be here.”

On the trade:  “This is a business. They felt they needed to change the point guard position and that’s what they did. Somebody’s trash is somebody else’s treasure.”

On coming off the bench: “I don’t mind that. I like to win games regardless of how things go down. I don’t worry myself with points, shots, stuff like that. I just do whatever it takes to help win the game.”

Enjoy the game…

From the last blog:

Buddy Grizzard,

You have every right to express your OPINION of what might have happened with LDII quitting UNC.

You also have every right to post conjecture about what MIGHT have happened.

I just disagree with conjecture about someone’s family matters. Unless you know everything that was said (or thought) in that family, then you are just guessing.

And, once again you have the right to say it.

I just think it’s tacky.

Given Bibby’s comments ….. I wonder if he woulda been down for being 2nd string PG if we could have gotten Henrich by some other means and kept him?

Wow 2nd time week. I am disappointed that Teague is not starting. I have mentioned it before, I watched Rondo really bother James when he was bringing the ball up court. LD should have used Teague in that manner. Although his offense is not polished, he has done well defensively.

stars going to have to play like it in order to get a win tonight..

Wow… that is a weird lineup. I guess getting Al matched up on Bosh and allowing Joe and Kirk to split duties on Wade is a good thing, but the Heat do not have a scorer at center, and I’m not a big fan of Smoove on LeBron.

I hope it works.

Woody and LD ruin young players confidence like it’s going out of style.

How the hell Josh gonna stay in front of Lebron? LD is a clown.
Should be Teague/Joe/Damien/Josh/Al

Marcus- interesting. i think he might have, although i think it’s a lot harder to do, ego-wise, in a place where you’ve been the starter.

I have no problem with speculating on what happened with LD’s son at UNC or whatever, but I still fail to see how that has anything to do with his ability to coach the Hawks. LD wouldn’t be the first coach to have some character flaws and still achieve success as a coach.

If he wanted to go with Kirk as the starter, it should have been Kirk/Joe/Damien/Smoove/Al, with Al matching up on Bosh and Smoove matching up on whoever plays center. I don’t get the logic behind going big against this team.

If they have heart they will protect home court. I think LD will blow the game….Miami 106 Hawks 82. Joe will disappear. Hortford will have a good game. Teague will not play 15 minutes. Jamal will suck tonight. Ken… Teague on LeBron if he is playing Point forward.

for 2-3 straight years, we short-circuit in the 4Q. Even in some of our wins. Its really frustrating.

Nice post up from Joe. Good analysis from Nique about the previous possession. Smoove, like everyone else on the Hawks, needs to jump into people and try to draw the foul.

Defense looking pretty good. Might want to bring in Marvin or Damien instead of Jamal.

hawks not really intentional about pushing the pace. being selective, perhaps.

“Defense looking pretty good. Might want to bring in Marvin or Damien instead of Jamal.”

Agree, especially since the offense has looked pretty good too. No need for Jamal’s offensive spark right now. Let Damien come in the game, slide Smoove and Al down one position.
