Hawks-Nuggets game thread

Greetings, all-

Ken here. Sorry for the late start. A few notes, nothing earth-shattering.

1) Same lineup.

2) Larry Drew’s keys: Defend the 3, transition defense, defend the pick and roll, make Denver work on defense, move the ball side to side, good shot selection. Something tells me you’ve read that before.

3) An obvious matchup to watch is Jeff Teague-Ty Lawson. You may remember that they were drafted No. 18-19 in the 2009 draft.

4) Joe Johnson is still wearing a headband. Not a superstitious type, apparently, or at least someone with an interest in being sanitary, he broke out a fresh Air Jordan headband for the Nuggets.

Anytime Zaza is the leading scorer, you know we’re in trouble.

Hinrich and Teague have 38 combined minutes. Why?

“why did no point guard play at all in the second half???????”

Exactly, When do we realize that L.D. does not have a clue on how to properly lead a group of dysfunctional misfits, who’s best player plays like a quiet puss from vermont! GTFOH Hawks, Yall Are A JOKE!! If I Ever Pay To Watch Another Game Of These Clowns, Please Come Off Me! Thanks.

“Hawks suck. Josh Smith hurt the Hawks tonight. Key possession, they get it down to 3 in the 4th Josh jacks another jumper after he had not made 1 all night and misses again. Al did not get enough shots. Jamal should not ever be running PG because he can’t defend the position. LD once again went away from defense and showed that he is a man with no strong convictions and should not be running anything. The Hawks suck bad.”

For once I completely agree with everything you’ve said.

Well, it looks like L.D. has thrown in the towel. I figured we’d lose this game. You can’t win a game where 4 out of 5 of your starters combine to shoot 13-43 from the field, and Al only takes 5 shots. Unless your defense is phenomenal, you are not going to win many games when you are getting sorry offensive production like that.

If We Lose The Game Here Is What L.D. Will Say, (I Promise) “They Out Physicaled Us(Is Physicaled a Word?) They Played Tougher In The Inside and I Thought That Was The Difference In The Game. We Took Way To Many Jumpshots and we have got to drive to lane and get more fouls.” Different Game, Same Old L.D. Story!!

In other news, Joe is back to being normal Joe, Josh is becoming a jump shot addict, Al is in a serious slump, and Teague (although improving) is still very inconsistent and probably not ready to be a starter in this league. Since we don’t have many options, I have no problems starting Teague, but I just thought I’d point those things out, even though they’re probably very obvious to most of you.

the Hawks have really re-written the history books this season.. all kinds of history made. i think the only good has been the road record.. and im not sure if thats in jeopardy @ this point..

LD shows hes not that confident in our latest rendition of a starting lineup .. and rotation smh.

What is the point of having a PG, if you’re not even going to play them? Let’s just draft a trigger happy SG and have them run the offense from now on.

I guess the Hawks resting up for The Heat tonight. When will we get to 40? Say what you will, Mr. Woodson would have cursed Josh out in the huddle, in front of Blank, Josh Daddy, Josh Mamma, Josh Wife and whoever else wanted to see!

Woodson, didn’t give a damn ’bout your feelings! This team needed an iron fist. They all play like they on Xanex! Joe, Al and Teague. I have no idea what Josh is on tonight?

Almost every team in the league would love to have Josh Smith. Yes, the man had a rough night but who is the holding him accountable when his jump shot aint falling. Everything he did inside was golden. Come on man!

This is coaching and leadership. Joe Johnson wanted max money but aint a max player. Al is the cornerstone and should be the leader of the team but he doesn’t even know.

This coach makes no adjustments other than substitutions and has no control of his team. Their body language is an example of their coach. They have no clue!

I didn’t get a chance to watch the whole game, but watched the 4th.

Simple question, why didn’t Teague/Hinrich get on the floor the entire quarter? We had f’n Josh Smith checking JR Smith down the stretch, are you kidding me?

I will never understand this team, coach, organization.

Oh, by the way, it should also be noted that while the players for the Hawks definitely deserve a large part of the blame for tonight’s loss, L.D. was pretty mediocre himself. The substitution pattern was strange, the matchups were bad, and he continues his infatuation with playing Jamal at the point.

Nene was, basically, under control early in the game when Al was guarding him, then L.D. chose to put Nene on him, and he exploded on the offensive end. Teague, although he gave us almost nothing on the offensive end, was playing very solid defense, but because Denver was doubling off of Teague, and Joe was too selfish to pass the ball in those situations, L.D. chose to bench Teague and go with Jamal at the point. At that point, the Denver guards began to come to life and wreak havoc. There were a lot of poor decisions that I don’t feel like getting into at the moment, but those last two that I mentioned simply cannot be overlooked.

Woody made adjustments at halftime? lmaooooooooo. really? tell me you’re joking. One of his biggest faults was his lack of adjustments. How many times did the Hawks go into the half with the lead last year only to blow it in the 3rd quarter? Woodrow had one plan and one plan only. If that didnt work then the Hawks were in trouble because he didn’t have a plan b. We just need a top quality coach in here. No more bargain bins. Spend on a quality coach.

Does anyone want to argue with me when I say that the Hawks team from 2 years ago was better than this team? That’s right, I believe that the 47-35 2008-09 Hawks were better than this team.

By the way, I’m going out to get this loss off of my mind, so don’t expect any prompt replies from me if you address my opinion on this season’s Hawks versus the Hawks from 2 years ago.

NeNe was a guy I suggested trading Josh for (if NeNe wont sign in denver). That way, Al plays PF, and NeNe is our starting Center. For some reason, Al plays soft at Center sometimes…

If Josh would focus on defense and rebounding, let the offense come to him, and cut down on the jumpers, I would be ok trading Al for NeNe, and letting Josh play PF. But Josh is such a kamikaze…you just never know what to expect.

Nuclear Meltdown!

I don’t buy the “tired” excuse. They had all night and day to sleep.
What does this team do at night? Drink? Smoke that Goode? Party all the time?
________________

Did Coach Drew ever find out what they doing at night?
Earlier in the season, he said he was gonna’ find out.
Hire a private eye man, I remember a baseball owner back in the day, was tailing his highest paid player to see what the hell that dude was up to at night, because he wasn’t performing and sleeping in team meetings, showing up late for games. Was that the San-Fran Giants owner?

I was a newly transplanted member of the ATL community and I remember many games where the Hawks came back and I was like Damn, these boys have some heart. I see none of that now. I agree, Woody lost his team emotionally but LD has never had them from the get go. This team HAS talent, I totally agree, get someone in here who can take them to the next level. I did not understand this hire over the summer and do not understand this hire now.

Other than a true Center, some depth at the bigs and maybe a true PG or backup PG, who do you see as a good fit to coach?

P.S. Where is the fire Rick Sund and please sale the team ASG pages also?

I’ll say this in regards to Woodson. He was one of the worst coaches I have ever seen in making in-game adjustments, and he almost never made adjustments during the course of the game, even if the Hawks were being embarrassed. Unless, of course, you consider subbing in your bench in garbage time to be an adjustment. On the other hand, Woodson’s initial game plans were better than L.D.’s initial game plans. If Woodson came up with a game plan at the beginning and it had success, we typically won easily. If the other team adjusted, we typically lost badly, but when he came up with a good starting plan, it was effective. L.D. typically comes up with some bad gameplans that rarely work, but he occasionally makes good in-game adjustments. Overall, though, they are both bad coaches, and Woodson still holds the edge for being the better bad coach.
