Hawks-Lakers

Greetings, all

Just a couple notes and I’ll direct you over to Jeff Schultz’s live blog. He’s here to take in the game and will be blogging during the game, so I’ll be quiet on this end, though I’ll try to chime in on Jeff’s blog.

1) Larry Drew’s going with the “regular” lineup, meaning Al Horford (6-10, 246) is going to have to tangle with Andrew Bynum (7-0, 285).

2) Drew emphasized again the need to run, both against the Lakers and in general. Phil Jackson was asked about this, and said he wants the Lakers, naturally, to control tempo. How much the Hawks run/don’t run could tell the story.

3) Drew said he wants to get Damien Wilkins more minutes. “I definitely want to try to find more minutes for him, because he has that ability to give you that intensity,” he said. “Jeff (Teague) is the same way with with his speed and his quickness.”

4) Drew said, to aid the running game, he may call fewer sets, just to let the team play and let “their natural basketball instincts to take over.” (Hmm, don’t see any snarky comments coming from that statement…)

Jeff’s column. (To repeat, I won’t be blogging here.)

Enjoy the game.

Drew said, to aid the running game, he may call fewer sets, just to let the team play and let “their natural basketball instincts to take over.”

This really worries me. I have a bad feeling about what the natural instincts of Joe, Jamal, and Josh are, and those are the guys who dominate the ball and the team’s shot attempts more than anyone else. I just don’t have a good feeling about this game.

Also, I hope that the match-up with Al on Bynum doesn’t get Al into early foul trouble. That’s the last thing we need.

Honestly, I feel like Drew is just lost at this point and is unsure of what to do. I just hope the team steps it up tonight. In particular, I’m hoping Al has a big night. If his teammates get him the ball, he will most likely deliver, but the way he is so often ignored on offense, I kind of doubt that that will happen.

It is imperative in this game that Joe and Jamal do not hog the ball either. You can’t have bad possessions against the Lakers because there is just not a large margin for error. When focused, the Lakers are one of the most intelligent and disciplined basketball teams in the league, and they will capitalize on your mistakes in a hurry.

Sometimes, I wonder how accurate those height/weight measurements for players are. Most of the time, they are taken when players first come into the league and then they are rarely adjusted. Bynum looks more like he is 300+ lbs. than 285. Meanwhile, Al looks more like he is 250-260 lbs., That’s a pretty big disparity, at any rate, but Al would never back down anyway. Gasol is the one who worries me the most, since he is not only tall, but very skilled, and even if Al or Josh overpowers him, he has about a foot in length over them, and a soft shooting touch.

Who wants to bet that Zaza, if he plays, gets a shot blocked by Fisher tonight?

If the Hawks insist on going small, I have the over under on offensive boards for the Lakers at 18.

Judging from the attire in the crowd, it looks about 70-30 pro-Lakers. Shows you what a championship does for a team and how big a title would be in this city.

Wow. Josh inside the paint, close enough where he can take a shot and possibly get fouled. but instead, he passes it out to Hinrich, who passes it to JJ who passes it back to Josh…who now takes a 3…airball.

Do these guys just look for jumpers?

Oh Oh. Josh makes a 3, so he will probably spend a lot of time at the 3-point line for the rest of the game.

You know what I noticed about Smoove, is that when the ball is being swung like it was on that last possession, he almost NEVER makes that extra pass to get the best shot possible he always shoots it.
