Atlanta Hawks at Nuggets: Pregame notes

Denver–Some quick pregame notes . . .

  • GM Rick Sund said the team is unlikely to add any of the waived vets. Doing so would push the team’s payroll over or near the luxury-tax line even when accounting for the prorating of minimum salaries. Under the CBA, the prorating also is affected by a myriad of factors including the record of the team that signs the player.
  • If the Hawks do decide to add a vet they would likely be looking for a shooter.
  • Sund also said that after not trading Jamal Crawford’s expiring contract the Hawks would attempt to re-sign him: “I’ve said from Day One I’m a big fan of Jamal. Once we figure out what the new [CBA] rules are we will do everything in our power to re-sign him.”
  • Kirk Hinrich (calf) is a game-time decision. (UPDATE: Hinrich is out.) He shot baskets before the game but hit the trainer’s table before I could catch up with him. L.D. is starting Jeff Teague alongside J.J., Marvin, Josh and Al.
  • Mike Bibby’s buyout was the buzz in Atlanta’s locker room before the game. Guys are surprised he gave up $6.2 million but glad for him if joining a winning situation is what he wants.
  • L.D.said that after playing last night and arriving in Denver early this morning he wants the Hawks to slow the tempo tonight.

WTF!?! Where the Hell is the Hawks bench? It’s looking pretty empty over there…has anyone else noticed?

Is this what $120M buys you? This guy has no fire, no pride, and no game worth the money. That is the REAL travesty with this team.

I think Nique’s gonna have to come up with more punchlines than just resorting to “heat check…” or “the hawks are rollin on all cylinders tonight…”

Josh will need an MRI on that knee. Hopefully, the long flight won’t make it worse. How does that mile high air work on planes?

Anyway, I pray Josh’s MCL is not torn or ruptured. But, if you ask me?
Moderate to Severe knee sprains are worse than some types of fractures. 6 weeks to heal a fracture and possibly 10-12 weeks on a weight-bearing, pivot joint like the knee. The most complicated joint in the entire body. The knee is simply amazing.

Man, that’s some goode.

Horford lethal with that mid-range jumper.

Hawks look tired as Hell! If these dudes pull this one out, this maybe their most impressive win out of the three to me.

Al has been huge. At this point he’s gotta be one of the top 5 mid range shooters in the league, right?

Joe might be a worse pick and roll defender than Mike..

looks like he’s become the new target of the pick and roll game..

Every time the Hawks look like they might pull away a little, the Nuggets battle back. Al has been great in this quarter, but he’s gotta box out K-Mart.

It is fun again watching the Hawks play. Its almost like LD pushed the “on” button after Bibby was traded. I know the good perimeter defense makes the whole team play better on offense and defense, but even the maddenly dumb plays have disappeared. The whole team is playing at a higher level.

tonights game’s just one of those ‘by any means necessary’ type games.

don’t care how ugly it looks. don’t care how we get it.

gotta gut it out and get back home.

Why is it that some athletes, and the “Denver Nuggets P.A.Announcer” always give a score wrong?

Their P.A. guy just said,”Atlanta Hawks 70 and the Denver Nuggets 71″..

Why??

Hey Wabe,
I think the producers or Nique himself know the popularity of saying,”heat check” and he may be shying away from it..

Zaza is a poor fit on this team. Non athletic and wooden hands.

Smoove is apparently being held out as a “precautionary measure”. That makes two “precautionary measures” on the Hawks today, along with Hinrich.

Ra'mon

Marvin gets paid $7 Million to miss open jumpers. They can give 200K to miss open jumpers, and I’ll do it just as good. Its crazy how many open shots Marvin and Joe have missed.

he has to be good for something.

i just see too many, self inflicted negative plays from him. turns my stomach.

Ron

It seems like our offense is non-existant outside of Horford tonight. Can anyone else make a shot? Marvin has had lots of good looks, but can’t cash in. Zaza can’t finish 2 inches in front of the rim, and Joe makes all of his shots tougher than they need to be. This is not a good time to be shorthanded.

Bigdave depends, is Birdman high or sober?
