Greetings, all-
Ken Sugiura sitting in for MC, who is at home celebrating his birthday. A few notes prior to Hawks-Wizards, or the basketball Super Bowl, as I like to call it.
1) Al Horford is not playing. He tested out his back after getting to the arena, but decided against it. Zaza Pachulia will go at 5, Josh Smith at 4, Marvin Williams at 3, Joe Johnson at 2, Mike Bibby at 1. He said he’ll be ready to go Tuesday for Philadelphia.
2) Larry Drew, not surprisingly, talked about the importance of containing Wizards rookie John Wall, remarking at his baseline to baseline speed. Bibby will start out on Wall, which will obviously be a bit of a test for Bibby.
3) Hawks have won 11 in a row against Washington.
4) Courtesy of Elias Sports Bureau via ESPN, Jamal Crawford’s 34-point game against the Clippers last night gave him three 30-point games off the bench for the season. No one else has more than one this season.
5) Wizards’ lineup: JaVale McGee, Andray Blatche, Rashard Lewis, Nick Young, Wall.
6) Hawks wearing red. I think they’re either 3-0 or 4-0 in red this season.

As mentioned previously, Blake Griffin committed 2 hard fouls on Marvin and Al with seconds left to play, and both men up in the air. One hard, mid-air foul I can understand. 2 means you are looking to hurt somebody. Can’t believe his coach didn’t think the foul was flagrant. And one of Blake’s teammate actually had the nerve to say Blake only did what others do to him. Get out of here. He’s lucky he wasn’t tossed. That was the nastiest fall I’ve seen in a long time. We are lucky Al is tough and will only miss one game. Had it been Marvin going down like that, his career could have been over.
Get out of here, Clippers. Hawks sweep you again this season.
Clips are getting really better, though. 3 teams I’m glad play out West: Clippers, Thunder and Hornets. Hawks always have problems with those team.
Go, Hawks! Total team effort needed tonight with Al out.

Flip Saunders loves using zone defenses, and the Hawks showed yesterday that they still can’t consistently score against the zone. And needless to say, Bibby is going to get torched by John Wall. I think this game is once again going to be much closer than it should be.

“The top 3 spots are reserved for each division winner. So the only way we can overtake the Bulls is if we win our division and have a better record then the Bulls.”
They changed that rule a couple of years ago. Division winners are guaranteed a top 4 spot now, not top 3. So if the Hawks finished 2nd in the division but had a better record than Chicago, they would be seeded higher than Chicago.
I’d like to see how those two teams match up. The Bulls are the best defensive team in the league statistically and will probably have Noah back by the time they play the Hawks, but the Hawks have the players to lock down Boozer, who is really the only low post scoring threat they have. I’m not looking forward to seeing what the Hawks will try to do to mask Bibby against Rose, though. I think Joe will end up having to spend a lot of energy chasing Rose around.

Looks like it will be a DNP for Teague in this one, and Bibby hasn’t really played much in the second half either. The Hawks’ offense hasn’t been noticeably different without a true point guard on the floor.

Nimbers Don’t Lie!
Nique said, “Josh should have been on the All-Star team, but I guess he got lost in the Nimbers.”
Maybe that’s what happened, the coaches were looking for Josh’s numbers and they weren’t there? They should have looked up his Nimbers.

Did yall see Sam Cassell having a heart to heart convo with Josh after the game? I saw his lips say All-Star and he tapped the ATL on his jersey a couple of times. Yall, think maybe he was impressed with Josh’s play tonight?
I’m glad Josh is not sulking, he does look pissed though. I haven’t seen him smile since his snub! Hopefully, he will play with that proverbial chip on his shoulder, the rest of the way!
I know Kobe was so pissed, when Steve Nash won B2B MVP’s, while Kobe was in his prime and arguably could have won those two.
Marvin, played great! Damien was WOW! I loved Maurice Evans sneakers. patented leather red adidas low cuts, I didn’t see his game tho.

It’s obvious Bibby needs less minutes until playoffs start, unfortunately Teague did not get to play tonight.
Also Marvin stepped up with a big game tonight and part of that was due to Al being out, but if he could at least hit his open shots like tonight I’d be very happy with his contributions.
Overall good win, would just like to see Teague get a few minutes tonight…

Teague is probably thinking “If LD can’t develop his son (who he has helped raise/coach from birth) into a legit NBA potential PG, then how is he supposed to help me raise my game”
drmaryb (*_*)

9:59 pm
The Hawks haven’t had a PG in thirteen years, it’s been so long, I guess the players and coaches stopped going by the GM’s office and looking under his desk.or, running downstairs on X-Mas morning hoping to find one under the tree.
At this point, with Bibby sitting in that fourth and Jeff getting a DNP, I guess it’s pretty clear that Jamal is the only viable option at PG. The players are like Fk-it!
We don’t need one, we can all bring the ball up.
In a way, I have heard DWade say, ” The Hawks are almost impossible to contain, because their big forwards can all initiate their offense pretty well, and in transition they put everybody on their heels. They are hard to stop when they run.”

Ramon Sessions would be a great pick-up, him coming from another team that runs the Motion Offense, it wouldn’t take him long to fit in at all, from what I know he plays Good D, and can penetrate whenever he wants. I remember he dropped 40 a few years ago, Sund should look into it.

Sammy giving JS advice says alot about how he respects the game, love it.
Atlanta Hawks select Doug Edwards – pick 15, Florida St.
Houston Rockets select Sam Cassell – pick 24, Florida St.
and they wonder why the fans don’t warm to this franchise.

I’m watching Bulls-Warriors right now, and I’m thinking the Hawks might actually benefit from bringing back the switching defense when they play Chicago. I really don’t see how the Hawks can beat them with Bibby guarding Rose the whole time. The switching defense did work against some teams last year, especially when they didn’t have weeks to prepare for it.

Bibby won’t be guarding Rose . . . JJ will. Bibby will be on someone like Keith Bogans or somebody. There’s always a way to hide Bibby on the floor, unless the Hawks don’t adjust.
Can’t let the Dallas situation happen again. In that situation, you double whomever Bibby’s guarding in the post and force the other team to make a jumper . . preferably to a guy who is one of their weaker shooters.
