Hawks forward Marvin Williams has been suspended for two games without pay, starting with Saturday night’s game against the Dallas Mavericks. Williams was suspended for his involvement in a fight in the Hawks’ Friday night game against the New York Knicks. With less than a minute to play in the 111-102 win, Williams pushed and threw a punch at the Knicks’ Shawne Williams, earning him an immediate ejection. The Knicks’ Shawne Williams was also ejected and suspended for one game.
NBA rules dictate that any player who throws a punch will be ejected, suspended for at least one game and fined. The amount of Williams’ fine was not available. Williams will also miss Thursday’s home game against Toronto and be eligible to return for the Saturday home game against the Los Angeles Clippers.
Williams made the trip with the team to Dallas, but will not be allowed in the arena for the game. It will be the 16th game that Williams has missed out of the Hawks’ 47 games thus far this season.
The Hawks could use Williams against Dallas, which is 30-15 and has won its past three games.
