Game thread, Bucks-Hawks

Greetings, all-

This is Ken sitting in for MC, who’s getting some needed down time. I know it was hard for him to pass up a trip to beautiful Milwaukee (just ask Josh Smith), but discretion is the better part of valor, as they say.

I was going to post a little earlier, but wanted to let the Carmelo thread get more of a run. Interesting, I thought, though, as Mike pointed out, I don’t know what the Hawks have that they’d be willing to give up that the Nuggets would really want. Maybe the Hawks could arrange a three-way trade and be able to use Carmelo like a timeshare.

Anyway, some tidbits from the shootaround.

- Al Horford and Marvin Williams both shot and will be ready. Larry Drew sounded like he was planning on giving Wiliams about 20 minutes of playing time.

- Drew is going with the big lineup to tangle with Andrew Bogut.

- Drew said the team is playing better on the road in part because it’s understanding that you have to play differently on the road than you do at the super-energized Philips Arena.

Drew: “When you look at our team in the past, and when I say past I’m saying years back, we’ve tried to play the same way on the road as we do at home, and the one thing I tried to instill in these guys is the fact that the mindset has to be a little different on the road because you can’t play with the pace on the road like you do at home.”

- Hawks wearing the red uni’s again. They’re 4-0 thus far in them this season.

- Got any questions for Jamal Crawford? Get them to me by the time I get to the arena for open locker room (6:30 EST) and I’ll ask what I can. (Presuming he’s willing and available, which he generally is.)

- Question – as best I can tell, there’s five arenas in the NBA that aren’t named by a corporation. The Bradley Center (named after a local philanthropist) is one of them. Can you name the others? No googling, please.

Bucks fans are chanting “Bogut’s better” as Marvin is at the line. No argument from any of us…

Hank, but majority of his shots have been in the lane, at the rim. What’s a better shot, Josh at the rim, or a jumper from Joe, JC1, or Al (who’s still hampered by his ankle)? No one else is attacking the rim, but Josh.

Hawks has a plethora of talent. I just hope they stay healthy and continue to grow into a better defensive team. LD knows what he’s doing and we have a shot to make to the conference finals. I just don’t believe we have enough yet to beat the Celtics. But a couple of moves here and there and BOOM, we can be a true contender!

Boykins is 34, and 5′5″, and still playing good basketball, averaging 8 and 3 in 31 mpg.

Good 3rd quarter Hawks. Lets go on a big run in the fourth, and put them away, so LD can empty the bench.

Ken, now that you said that, we won’t see Teague play again until after the All Star game.

Lowest strength of schedule, your ATLANTA HAWKS.

These frauds will be exposed soon.

“Because the person who draws the charge isn’t always the one who cause it.”

Well yeah, but the person who ends up with the steal isn’t always the one who caused it either. If Smoove hounds his man on the perimeter and forces him to throw a bad pass to Bibby, Bibby is the guy who gets credit with the steal even though Smoove did the work. Stats are not perfect, but it just seems messed up to me that a play as important as drawing a charge doesn’t get you any credit in the stat sheet whatsoever.

That would be a valid point if the Hawks had beaten all of the bad teams on the schedule and lost to only good teams, like the Falcons did this season. But with two wins against Orlando, a road win against Miami, and a road win against Utah on their resume within the last month and a half despite having lost a lot of player-games to injury, it’s safe to say the Hawks are capable of hanging with the big boys.

Our bench is really stinking it up out there. I always have a bad feeling when they enter the game. Also, I’m not sure I feel very good playing Marvin at the 4. I don’t think that’s a very advantageous position for him. What do you guys think about Marvin at the 4. I think he’s a prototypical SF.

Sometimes I get the feeling that if Zaza was standing in front of a burning building and someone threw a baby out the 5th floor window, he would bat it in the air instead of catching it.

How many of those runners is Teague going to miss this year. If he’d make them he’d get more PT, but man he misses them all the time. Draw some contact and go to the line like Devin Harris…

Antawn

That last three point attempt by Josh is a classic example of bad shot selection. That was a critical point in the game and we had plenty of time left on the clock and Josh takes a contested three? WTF, Josh? We can’t afford those kinds of shots in these situations. Now, we have to play from behind and try to get the lead back.

“the falcons didnt just beat bad teams!! ravens, packers, saints to name a few good teams…”

That’s not what I was saying. I said they only lost to good teams (Steelers, Saints, Packers, Eagles). If the Hawks had gone through this stretch beating every team with a worse record and losing to the Miamis and Orlandos of the league every time, you could make the argument that when the schedule got tougher they would start losing more. But it’s not like they have been getting beat by all the good teams they have played.
