Game thread, Bucks-Hawks

Greetings, all-

This is Ken sitting in for MC, who’s getting some needed down time. I know it was hard for him to pass up a trip to beautiful Milwaukee (just ask Josh Smith), but discretion is the better part of valor, as they say.

I was going to post a little earlier, but wanted to let the Carmelo thread get more of a run. Interesting, I thought, though, as Mike pointed out, I don’t know what the Hawks have that they’d be willing to give up that the Nuggets would really want. Maybe the Hawks could arrange a three-way trade and be able to use Carmelo like a timeshare.

Anyway, some tidbits from the shootaround.

- Al Horford and Marvin Williams both shot and will be ready. Larry Drew sounded like he was planning on giving Wiliams about 20 minutes of playing time.

- Drew is going with the big lineup to tangle with Andrew Bogut.

- Drew said the team is playing better on the road in part because it’s understanding that you have to play differently on the road than you do at the super-energized Philips Arena.

Drew: “When you look at our team in the past, and when I say past I’m saying years back, we’ve tried to play the same way on the road as we do at home, and the one thing I tried to instill in these guys is the fact that the mindset has to be a little different on the road because you can’t play with the pace on the road like you do at home.”

- Hawks wearing the red uni’s again. They’re 4-0 thus far in them this season.

- Got any questions for Jamal Crawford? Get them to me by the time I get to the arena for open locker room (6:30 EST) and I’ll ask what I can. (Presuming he’s willing and available, which he generally is.)

- Question – as best I can tell, there’s five arenas in the NBA that aren’t named by a corporation. The Bradley Center (named after a local philanthropist) is one of them. Can you name the others? No googling, please.

Bucks got Douglas-Roberts for a 2nd rnd pick from the Nets. Why cant the Hawks find some valuable players like that?…SMH

Najeh,

Agreed on Bibby. For a long time, he was leading the league in 3 pt %. Now, I think he is down to 3rd, and his percentage is slowly dropping. Could it be because he is getting tired?

I’d take Illasova over Marvin right now. He has become a better player than Marvin in 3 years.

Hawks Will Win More Games This Year, Than Last. Will That Be Enough To Get In The TOP 3 Again is the Question.

If Melo was on the Hawks, we’d be up by 20. Nobody on the Bucks roster could stop that guy. Are u kidding me?

Say what you want about Smoove’s shot selection, but this has been another really good defensive performance by him, and it’s not just the blocks.

@ Najeh,
Josh Playing The Three Makes Us Just Better Overall. The Spacing and the Defesive Lenghth and Rebounding Is What I’m Talking About. Offensively It is a Crap Shoot.

Bob said “Teague looks over to the bench and gets the play call from LD”.

If that’s the case, the play call must have been “give the ball to Jamal and get out of the way”, because that’s exactly what Happened

Can’t really say too much about Josh’s shot attempts because majority of his attempts have been in the lane. Josh has more shots in the lane than the rest of the Hawks combined. Rather we like it or not, Josh is the Hawks best post player on offense and defense.

I didn’t say anything was wrong with Smoove’s defense. I just think he needs to tone the attempts down when they are not high percentage looks. Smoove is not an amazing offensive player, but sometimes he thinks he is and gets carried away shooting the ball. He’s taken 14 shots already tonight, and he’s made only 5.

Another big time defensive play by Smoove, and this one won’t show up in the stat sheet.

I still don’t get why drawing a charge doesn’t count as a steal. Any other time you force a turnover, it’s a steal… why shouldn’t this be the same?

Hawks up by 7, Nique says “the Hawks have siezed control of the game.” Hawks up by 6 and Nique says “the Bucks are very much in this game.”

It always amazes me to see Earl Boykins in an NBA game. You think so much about height when you are thinking about NBA players, yet this guy is tiny (probably 5′ 5″ -5′ 6″ at best), and, somehow, he was able to make his dreams come true and play in the NBA based purely off of skill and effort.

A Charge Is A Turnover, a steal is when you take the ball and keep it in possession. They both are turnover, but one can’t be credited without gaining possesion of the basketball was possession is still in play. It’s a difference.

Look how easy that was, when a legit PG runs the offense, it makes it so much easier for Jamal to score off drive & kicks or creating a breakdown in the defense. Just let Teague go man stop giving the ball to Jamal so much.
