wishful thinking but you must face the fact that as long as rick sund is the GM for the hawks, there will be no moves to immprove and the team will be stuck in mediocrity

cdog, it is not Rick Sund but the owners. The owners have proven they are willing to pay. The question now is are they willing to trade from their core to improve the team.

Im with you MC. The hawks are sitting around doing nothing. We cant even beat the Nets. Please do something. Crawford BIbby and 1st for Chris Paul. Get it done.

But i dont think the Magic improved with that trade though. we shall see down the road.

MC good job. I take exception to you and the others saying the Hawks have stood pat though. The Jamal move was our move. It worked wonderfully last year. JJ was also our big move. None of the other teams in the SE besides Miami had a top 3 rotation player up for renewal. I mean not to be a homer, but with all the movement being done we sit exactly in the spot we were last year, 2nd in the SE and 4th in the conference. I love to see a homerun move made, but not just a move for the sake of movement.

@Coscro: i see what you are saying re: Jamal and J.J. i just don’t think that’s enough to overtake the Celtics and the Heat since the former got much deeper and the latter got much better. i’m assuming the Magic also will make another deal for a backup center, in which case they also could be better. emphasis on “could” though because they did take a risk. i’m curious to see what the Hawks can do now that they are healthy.

EVIDENTLY ASG IS FILLED WITH BUSINESSMEN WHO ARE CAUTIOUS AT WHAT THEY DO…WHILE BEING CAUTIOUS DOESNT ALWAYS PRODUCE THE MOST ATTRACTIVE RESULTS, A LOT OF TIMES BEING CAUTIOUS AT LEAST PRODUCES A SAFE RESULT…THE BOTTOM LINE IS THIS, THE ASG COULD CARE LESS ABOUT WINNING OR LOSING AS LONG AS THEY MAINTAIN PROFITABILITY AND A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE..AND IT IS FOR THIS REASON WHY THE HAWKS WILL ALWAYS BE MEDIOCRE WITH THIS OWNERSHIP GROUP..SIMPLY PUT THE VOICE OF THE ASG ( IF IT EXISTS) ,THAT IS A RISK TAKER’S VOICE,ISNT BEING HEARD AMONGST THE ASG…KEEPING THE CORE IS THE ASG’S “CAUTIOUS” BET, WHILE BUILDING A CHAMPIONSHIP WOULD INVOLVE TAKING A ” RISK”..THE ASG IS FILLED WITH GUYS WHO DON’T TAKE “RISKS” AND THAT IS WHY THE HAWKS WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THE ASG…THE ASG DOESNT TAKE “RISKS”

ATL raised Indy living “WHILE BEING CAUTIOUS DOESNT ALWAYS PRODUCE THE MOST ATTRACTIVE RESULTS, A LOT OF TIMES BEING CAUTIOUS AT LEAST PRODUCES A SAFE RESULT”.

This has been ASG mode of operation. That has gotten Hawks to second round twice. But now, we know we have peaked. The fans know. The crowds are getting smaller. If I am a good businessman, I have to inject excitement into the fan base, or the safe profit margin built on top of year to year improvements, will surely go down, as it already has started.

From the previous blog;

JeJe,

I think Camby has one year left after this one, at $9 mil. That eliminates him from the Hawks (imo). With Al’s extension kicking in next year, and a new CBA, I dont see the Hawks picking up much salary, so if they trade Jamal, they would want another expiring in return (like Pryzbilla).

And I’m not sure Andre Miller would be a good fit.

And as for Josh being a sixth man, I think he would have a big problem with it, and would do what he does…Pout.

Its sad to say but the ONLY way the Hawks make a move is if they stink it up like Orlando has been doing the last 8-9 games. We would HAVE to go on a huge losing streak WITH EVERYONE HEALTHY! If top players are hurt like JJ, Marvin, and Mo out, Sund feels a losing streak is b/c of hurt players, BUT IF ALL ARE HEALTHY and STILL LOSING, then and only then u will see a change in the roster..TRUTH ME!! In the eyes of Sund & ASG, we are 4th in the east with a great chance of topping Miami in the division if they go on a losing streak being that they have YET to play the Lakers, Chicago, and the Spurs..with 2 more games to play against Boston and the new look Orlando!

Lets rent Melo for the remainder of this season. Josh Smith, Marvin Williams, and a 1st round pick. If we go deep in the playoffs, Melo might want to stay.If he decides 2 leave it is still worth it because 18 mill will be off the books and thats not counting Crawford and Mo expiring contracts. Plus JJ, Melo, and Al is better than Melo and Stoudemire any day. We offer him the best chance 2 win now.

Who would be an ideal PG for the Hawks to pick up (no fantasy BS)?

I, along with a couple fellow bloggers, really like Hinrich; however, given that the Wiz was able to move Arenas, I doubt they would be looking to move another PG. Andre Miller may very well be available and is a solid PG, but I, too, worry about fit. I doubt the Magic would be willing to trade one of their PGs to us. Any other suggestions?

Who would be an ideal C for the Hawks to pick up (no fantasy BS)?

I’ve beaten this horse to death, but I would love to see the Hawks make a move for Camby. Pryzbilla would not be bad either. Wonder if the Suns would think about moving Lopez or Gortat … I would love to see the Hawks pick up either. Who else might be available, attainable, and a possible good acquisition?

My worry about Miller is similar to Roy’s concerns about Miller: (1) Because Miller has no outside shot, he cannot really spread the defense. (2) Roy claims that Miller’s style of play meshed with Roy’s style of play. If there is really something to this complaint, then Miller and JJ might not mesh well together.

However, Miller is a solid PG (floor general, facilitator) and he plays defense a bit better than Bibby.

I BELIEVE THAT THE ASG WILL DO A SCENARIO SIMILAR TO THIS…THEY WILL DUMP AS MANY BIG SALARIES AS THEY CAN AND DECIDE TO BREAK UP THE CORE AND REBUILD TO CREATE A RECESSIONALIZED( I KNOW ITS NOT A WORD) FRANCHISE….

TRADE #5: MIKE BIBBY AND JAMAL CRAWFORD TO L.A.CLIPPERS FOR ERIC GORDAN

TRADE #6 : JOE JOHNSON TO PHILADELPHIA FOR MATEESE SPEIGHTS AND SPENCER HAWES

Being that Ty Lawson is the pg of the future in Denver, we should just wait on Melo to go to NY, and then go after Billups. Nuggets get Mo and Jamal’s expirings and a 1st. We get the PG and the LEADER this team needs all at once.

TERRELL, THAT WOULD BE A GREAT SCENARIO IF THE HAWKS COULD PULL THAT OFF..NOW WHILE THAT TRADE COULD BE A POSSIBILITY, ITS JUST UNFORTUNATE THAT THE TRADE WOULD PROBABLY BE ” TOO RISKY ” FOR THE “CAUTIOUS” ASG BUSINESSMEN…MOST OTHER NBA OWNERS WOULD PROBABLY DO THAT TRADE RIGHT NOW !! BUT NOT THE ASG, THEY ARE JUST TOO DAMN ” CAUTIOUS “

J from the A

December 22nd, 2010
2:44 pm

@Terrell: I like the Billups trade, and perhaps, it is not too far fetched, as, if Melo leaves, Denver will be in rebuilding mode. I would be hesitant to give up Teague and Jamal. Since Jamal has to go to make the trade work, I would really like to see the Hawks hold onto Teague. Plus, if I am not mistaken, Billups has a team option for next year, making his potential financial lode non-problematic.

But that move makes it unlikely that we will be able to trade for a quality upgrade at the 5. Is the Hawks greater need a complete-package PG or an upgraded defensive-minded center?

prison mike

December 22nd, 2010
2:48 pm

We have a two month period until the deadline ends. No need to trade just to trade. Bibby, marvin, and joe are hard to trade but are tradeable.

Some gm will get an itchy trigger finger regarding crawford and that’s when sund will pounce. He has a history of fleecing teams in his past. Orlando trading a week after the 15th reeks of desperation and dwight pretty much will opt out in 2012 which is a short 1.5 years away.

The hawks will also have a circa 21st pick that they would combine with crawford to make it probably the most tradeable asset behind melo right now…

J from the A

December 22nd, 2010
2:53 pm

My only concern about the Billups trade is that from Denver’s point of view it may not be worth it. Sure you get 13 mil in expirings, but you are giving up a player in Billups whose contract for next year is not guaranteed. That makes Billups an expiring or a keeper, whichever works in the team’s best interest.

Also, Denver is looking to pick up a PF or a C. After the Melo trade (assuming one happens), I am not sure Denver will have any other pressing needs … other than the want for some more young guys to build around and some picks.

All in all, if you are Denver, you have to ask yourself is trading Billups for a late 1st-round pick worth it? (Because, as noted above, the financial considerations would be a wash at best for Denver.)

I blame LD for the losses to NJ and DET. I mean if JC1 is out THEN WHY IS JC2 IN A SUIT ON THE SIDELINE?! Would it not make sense to relpace crawford with crawford? JJ needed a scoring outlet/pressure release, especially after coming off elbow surgery.

Why is LD giving Teague the short leash? I don’t understand, Bibby keeps getting embarassed by 5′10′ Jameer nelson over and over again but he gets to stay in the game? And that was before Bibby went on his little hot shooting streak.

What about pape sy? why is he in a suit still? In case LD hasn’t noticed, MO EVANS IS SUCKING BIG TIME RIGHT NOW and damien wilkins has absolutely no offensive game whatsoever. Pape is 6′7 and 225 I just dont understand.

Bibby, Mo, Jamal, Marvin, Etan, and Zaza should ALL be on the trading block right now. Sund shouldat least notify the other 29 teams that “we may deal those players if you have something we need.”

LD is acting like woody lite and Sund just Sucks right now. He needs to be on the phone with somebody.

Atlanta dont need to destroy this team for the sake of trading KEEP THE CORE TOGETHER, take the time to actully watch a game with someone who know basketball, then you can clearlly see Atlanta needs ,SCORING from the back court.Keep this team young add one or two vets. that the team respect. I say that because I watch Atlanta bigs pass over Bibby’s head to get the ball to Joe,same with Teague, Atlanta needs to move JC1,Bibby or Teague for a scoring guard ,please not Hinrick, lets say M. Ellis who is on the trading block. or look at Detroit who would help there ?knowing our budget T.Mcgrady , Stucky or BYNUM this takes the scoring load off JOSH & AL then each shot they take wont be magnified ,neither are go to scorers in the clutch. I truelly believe Atlanta is a facilitating scoring pointguard, off the bench scoring 2, off the bench scoring 3,away from a top five team Boston ,Lakers Dallas San Ant. are old teams who must win now . Atlanta needs a [CLOSER] to finish games , they are a couple players away , the problem is not the core players, they need a leader by example

With LB out in Charlotte, maybe MJ will give Woody a call

As good as Bibby is playing, the fact is we get nothing from him on defense, and he is a major liability in the 4th when a team goes to the pick and roll.

If he was expiring, the Hawks could explore the option of trading him (whether that be for a Billups, or Devin Harris, whoever). But because Rick gave him 3 years guaranteed (instead of 2), trading him is not even an option (imo).

I think Bibby would be a very good backup PG. But I dont know how we can trade for an upgrade.

@UGA: Re: Dwight: It’s not just a matter of the ownership being willing to go into the luxury tax, but any Dwight acquisition might be difficult due to financial rules of the NBA (the CBA).

Assuming there isn’t going to be any major changes with the upcoming CBA (which is probably an erroneous assumption), the only way the Hawks would be able to acquire Dwight would be to (a) unload a lot of salaries between now and then or (b) work out a sign and trade with Orlando. Both options (a) and (b) would probably involve at least a slight remaking of the core. IMO, to get Dwight, the Hawks will have to be willing to let go of [Josh and a little bit more*] OR [AL and a little bit more*].

Larry Brown has a 2 Year shelf-Life every where he goes. Great teacher of the game and he runs some really good schemes, especially on defense! A Master!

Aaah! I will have to look him up. Sorry for going off on a tangent with the alcoholics, but. Larry Brown, Doug Collins, Byron Scott and Avery Johnson are all
unbearable personalities, who are extremely intense and very controlling.
So is Stan Van Gundy, today’s players hate playing for these guys.

That’s why I believe Dwight will opt out of Orlando, because of SVG.

we should package Jamal right now for a big man..once we get a big man, we will be a threat in the East…we will continue to get beat off the dribble by quick guards because Bibby is old, and Joe Max is not a true GUARD..Max is really a sf..I watched him in the Ga dome for the sec title against Ken..He was a sf..Boston gave up on him because he played the same positon as Paul P, SF..At Phx he was a SF,QRich played the Two..Joe max was supposed to play PG for the Hawks, but after 2 games Woody changed the lineup..He is too slow to stay in front of good 2 guards…A active 6ft10 or taller big man is needed to protect the rim…come on, Most quick PGs are going to get to the basket no matter what, regardless of who is guarding them.. you should have a big man to stop it..

not a bad pick,

LOL, he can’t stay in front of good 2 guards, yet he has routinely guarded even faster point guards. Man, your hate for JJ is beyond credibility.

Once again, if he is as bad as you say How the F did he get named 3rd team ALL-NBA?

ernest, i agree with what you said but you have to go back 3 years. rick sund is the GM he has the pull to make petsonnel moves.everyone was blaming mike woodson but sund was to blame.he fail to bring in players to compete with the teams in the east.when the hawks failed, woodson, despite winning 50 plus games was made the scapegoat instead of sund who is terrible. larry drew won’t come close to winning the games that woodson did.look at the falcons and the braves.they have great GMs who will pull moves to win and not worry about money.this is what puzzle me also, despite having money sund does not do anything with money.when he has extra draft picks, he throws them away on players who will never suit up for the hawks.overall, the owners are to blame but the main problem is and has always been rick sund.when sund goes and a competent GM is hired, only then will the hawks contend for the nba championship.

BTW, Kenny “The Jet” Smith and Rod Strickland were also raging alcoholics their entire playing career, so was Derrick Coleman and that other Big PF … Aaah, what was his name? He played for a lot of great teams too

dr mary b good evening yes that is true of Derrick Coleman. In the 90’s used to go to clubs in ny city and derrick coleman was drunk lots of times and getting into fights. One night all star weekend he almost got in a fight with Charles Oakley and got kicked out the club. He was always flashing money and had women around him

Sund=Knight, this franchise has been lousy for a longtime.Has not been to the ECF in 23 years!! Not going to happen anytime soon with Sund in the driver seat. It looks like he thinks Billy Knight’s team hasn’t peaked yet and can advance in the playoffs but I got news for him. That train left the station last year!! Same crap different year…
