Hawks’ Johnson back from elbow surgery

Hawks guard Joe Johnson will return to the lineup two weeks ahead of schedule after having right elbow surgery. Th efour-time All-Star will start Friday night against Charlotte at Philips Arena.

“The therapy just went great, the swelling’s gone down,” Johnson said. “We’ve just been shooting (with) no pain. It’s just feeling great, so I just didn’t feel like it was necessary to wait another two weeks and leave the guys hanging out there like that when I can really get out there and give ‘em everything I got.”

Johnson had surgery to remove a loose body from his elbow at the beginning of December. He had been expected to be out four to six weeks. His return was so unexpected that coach Larry Drew thought trainer Wally Blase was kidding when he told Drew that Johnson could go Friday.

The Hawks went 5-4 in his absence but have lost three of the last four.

The return comes at a fortuitous time. Guard Jamal Crawford will miss his second consecutive game with a back injury.

I hope you are feeling better.

Welcome back Joe! We missed you! (All the Fans). With Jamal out, hopefully Jordan will get some burn tonight as well.

Is there ANY doubt – Who’s TEAM this is now?

Gee, I thought this was a Hawks blog. I’m a bulldog fan, but what does that score have to do with the Hawks?

Hell! I didn’t even know what that was. I thought that was a Hawks W-L prediction for this season? LOL! I didn’t even check the math to see if I’d added up to 82 Games.

Dang!

No Gerald Wallace tonight, (ankle). Yeah!

The good thing about B2B is we can “fuggiddabout-it”
You know, last night’s spanking and make a knew memory.

Right?

College football is boring. Especially when two mediocre teams play. UGA, Georgia Tech, who cares.

Hope Joe is fully healed and isn’t rushing back.

Welcome back Joe! I am just hoping you are not rushing the return.

Let’s go Joe! Let’s go Al! Let’s go Josh! And, yes, Marvin and Bibby, too!

Looking for a big game from Teague off the bench. Looking for solid production from Marvin.

Let’s go Hawks!

from previous blog, drmaryb reporting that the Trailblazers may be shopping Camby, Miller, and Pryzbilla. For two weeks now, I’ve been saying that the Trailblazers were probably shopping Camby. I really think Camby would really fit well on the Hawks. What about Miller, though? Could he be the upgrade we need at the PG position? Or may Miller not be a great fit?

If Miller would work out and both Miller and Camby are available, the Hawks need to make a move. Sure, the Hawks would have to give up JC1, but it may be worth it.

Josh off to a monster start!

Well, as monster as a start one can get off to in the first 2 minutes.

Nice start for the Hawks all around. I really wish Smoove would dunk more though. What the hell happened to the dunk contest champion?

@Najeh: Re: Smoove and dunking: I’ve been wondering that this whole season. He seems to have lost his explosiveness around the rim.

Lets see, Mo Evans startin at sg, or JJ startin or sg? Think I’ll go with Joe.

“He seems to have lost his explosiveness around the rim.”

If he’s lost his explosiveness, it hasn’t shown up on the defensive end, where he’s still blocking shots as well as he ever has. I think he’s just trying to show that he can do other things, and he’s taking that too far.

2 fouls on Horford … does that mean he sits for the rest of the half?

Al with 2 fouls early. Wont see him for a while. And why is Zaza still the 1st big off the bench??

Najeh Davenpoop

2 fouls on Al, and they are barely five minutes into the game. Is he going to sit the entire half?

Marvin with stand still defense.

@Najeh: Yeah, I think I misdescribed what I’ve been seeing. For whatever reason, Josh hasn’t been going hard in the paint on the offensive end. I really don’t mind the “mixing it up,” but even when he is around the rim, he rarely finishes strong (at least compared to last year).

Horford picked up his second foul already, and there’s a 99% chance that the Hawks novice coach will hold him out for the rest of the half now. How disappointing….

Arm Sleeve!

Remember when Joe’s surgery was announced?
I asked, “Does this mean Joe will wear an arm sleeve when he returns?”

Look It! Joe is wearing the sleeve! He’s never worn one before!
Do they read our blog? I doubt it, but LOL anyway.

Already bad talking Marvin … a little too early don’t ya think?

I predict that Marvin will have a decent game, 10-14 points, solid defense, 5,6 rebounds, etc.

i flipped to the knick/heat game..

Wilson Chandler is just yamed on Joel Anthony..

in my opinon you do not trade either Chandler or Gallinari for Melo, when he’ll sign there anyway this summer..

both players have shown tremendous growth in their respective games..
