Boston–Jamal is out with a sore back. J.J. is back in Atlanta.
Is there any chance the Hawks can go back home with a W?
Under the best circumstances, it would be difficult for the Hawks to do it; it will be dang tough while missing an All-Star and Sixth Man Award winner. Then again, somehow win this one and it really would mean redemption for that Nov. 22 surrender at Philips.
On Boston’s side, Rondo says he’s in despite a balky ankle. (Update: Celtics GM Danny Ainge says Rondo to miss “weeks” with injury.) Shaq says he’s out. Even if Shaq plays, L.D. said plans to send out the big lineup with Twin at center.
“I want to play Al at the four,” Drew said. “The rookie [Semih Erden] is real long. I like the matchup better moving Smoove to three and Marvin to two; it gives us an advantage on the offensive end. We will match up Smoove on Pierce [to] put a little length on him to see if that bothers him. We will try to do some thing offensively with Allen having to defend Marvin. See if we can create an advantage size-wise with that.”
Maybe the Celtics will be sapped after that hard-fought W at Madison Square Garden last night. Perhaps the Hawks will chapped by that ugly L at Detroit and motivated to save face against the C’s. Of course Boston beat down the Hawks on a back-to-back last time with energy ball Nate Robinson doing the damage early.
The Celtics did show some vulnerability last night. It was shocking to see the Knicks working the pick-and-roll so easily. Doc noted he couldn’t put KG or Big Baby on Amar’e too often because the power rotation is thin without Shaq, J. O’Neal and Perkins. Can the Hawks take advantage, too? Note that the Knicks only have two Ls since Nov. 16, to the Celtics and Hawks.
Granted, the Hawks don’t have Amar’e pogo sticking as their roll man but Al is deadly on the pick-and-pop and Smoove is a load when he gets the ball going to the rim. Together, they are like a composite Amar’e. Gallinari was a weapon for the Knicks–ESPN talker Jeff Van Gundy noted that the C’s couldn’t “short close” on him at the 3-point line because he’s so big he can shoot over them, and once they closed hard Gallinari went by them to the hole. Dare I say Smoove should try to do the same if he makes the first couple (inevitable) 3-pointers he launches?
The Knicks did enough to get some respect from the Celtics, who aren’t the types to give it easily:
“They test our defense,” Pierce said. “There are few teams in the NBA that test our defense. That’s one of them because they go small ball and they put four shooters on the court. Then when you got a big man who’s an elite scorer in this league, who can shoot from everywhere, they’re a tough guard.”
“I’ll say one thing about the Knicks, they’re confidence is obviously through the roof,” Garnett said. “Definitely a team to reckon with.”
Obviously L.D. watched Knicks-Celtics, too, and he noticed some things. He said the Hawks would run a lot of pick-and-rolls and also try to run with Teague and JC2 getting some burn looking to do both.
“They struggled with [the pick-and-roll],” L.D. said. “New York, they picked up the pace, too. In that fourth quarter a few times Boston scored and New York got the ball out, came right back down and scored. It’s that type of tempo we have had success [with] in the past playing at that pace. At the same time, you have got to be smart coming down and not jacking up that ill-advised shots, especially on the road.”

Glad to see JT and JC2 going to get some action. Smart move LD. I wonder if starting ZaZa wouldn’t be another smart move.
And for those thinking Marvin at the 4 would be a good idea, I find it interesting that LD would rather play him at 2 than 4. I know it’s about personnel, but still….

It looks like it may KG and Stoudamire as the East PF’s, which would be a shame really. I think it should be Stoudamire/Josh. I do think Al’s got a real shot behind Dwight at the C spot. 2 straight All Stars for Al? Hope so and good for him.
Looks like JJ’s streak is stopped at 4 straight All Star game appearances, unless he comes on really strong from the surgery. But most likely done.

Michael, good post. The answer to your question is no. There’s not a chance of the Hawks winning tonight. I think every member of the Celtics could play with their left hands tied behind their backs and the Hawks still would not win.
I just hope the Hawks show a little pride, at least. The game on 11/22 was pathetic. It never fails to amaze me how willing the Hawks are to give up. If they do that tonight, they might lose by 50-points.
Too bad TNT picked this game to televise. It’s going to get ugly.

I do think the Hawks have a chance tonight, especially if Josh shows some maturity. I think JT and JC2 can make it interesting, along with Josh, Al, Wilkens and Co. Too bad Rondo’s playing or I’d really like our chances.
But if Josh starts whining early, it will bleed into the younger players like JT and maybe JC2, and they will start playing defeated ball as well. And if Marvin and ZaZa happen to show up (which I doubt esp. with ZaZa), we have a really good shot.
I say start ZaZa and bring Etan off the bench at PF and see what happens. Criticize Sund all we want too, and I have vociferously, but he has built us a flexible team, and that’s good when the injury bug hits like now.

Why doesn’t LD give Teague more consistent burn, especially against teams with quick PGs? Bibby can’t guard quick PGs to save his life. Plus putting Jamal at the point makes no sense whatsoever. All he does is look for his own shot.

Al is the same size as Amar’e … but I get the point. Al plays a bit smaller than Amar’e. However, Al’s face-up jumper is just as solid as Amar’e’s, so the pick and pop might work well … or does the pick and pop only work well against the C’s when the player doing the popping also can legitimately go hard to the rack on a pick and roll? If that is the case, that may be the difference between Al and the Hawks being successful at pick and roll/pick and popping and Amar’e and the Knicks being successful at it.

Might the Hawks have a chance? The Celtics, who are normally a very deep team, are looking pretty thin down low and now Rondo is out. hmmm … but of course the not-so-deep Hawks are missing their biggest scoring threat (JJ) and their biggest scoring threat off the bench (JC1). If Josh and Al play as solid as they have been AND if Marvin can really step it up AND if one of our bench players (JC2, Teague, or MO) is able to have a stand out game, then MAYBE the Hawks pull out a win. That is a lot of IFs, but I guess it is possible.

Thoughts for Today:
Reflecting back on drafting JC2 with both JJ and Jamal out with injuries illustrates that a team can never have too many shooters
Speaking of injuries, was Jamal injury physically-inflicted or ego-inflicted due to his recent shooting slump?
Since Marvin underperformance and disappointments are all but unanimous in Hawksville; it begs the question why hasn’t the team called him out in a team meeting. If they haven’t already, the team should hold a special meeting specifically to call Marvin out. I can’t believe his inconsistency has gone under the radar for so long without at least a whisper amongst the team members. Marvin is a starter playing as if he’s still searching for a role on this team after 5 seasons. Marvin seems to be loafing on way too many occasions. If he shows up against Boston which I hope he will, his inconsistencies will remain a question.
Finally, don’t you get the sense that the Hawks is getting ready to turn the corner for the worse? With an unfavorable schedule forthcoming and some eastern teams surging, the absence of JJ (and others) could finally show. Even when JJ returns, he will need time to return to form. Consequently, LD obvious misstep has been not to engage JC2 in previous games. Now, out of the blue, he may call on JC2 to play big against the 2nd best team in the league. Is this mission impossible after being frozen on the bench? We shall see

Joe and Jamal are out for the Hawks; Rondo and Shaq are out for the Celtics. The difference is that the Celtics actually have depth on their roster, whereas the Hawks try to make do with mostly scrubs off the bench.
I’ll be pleasantly surprised if the Hawks lose by less than 25.
I hope JC2 gets meaningful minutes in this one, though. No reason why Mo Evans should play the majority of the vacated minutes at SG, considering his lackluster play recently.

“OH YEAH WHY IS KEVIN LOVE PUTTING UP BETTER STATS THAN HORFORD ??”
Good players on bad teams regularly put up bigger numbers than they would on good teams, because those teams don’t have other options available. Love is putting up bigger scoring averages than Horford, but he also takes way more shots and converts them at a much less efficient rate.

With both Rondo and Shaq out, this becomes a more even game, even if we don’t have our two top guns JJ and Jamal.
Marvin will be forced to be part of the action tonight, unless Smith or Horford decide that they must take 20 shots apiece ( which I don’t think should happen ).
I see a 5 – 13 FG . . 3 – 4 FT . . 1 – 3 3FG game out of Marvin tonight. So that’s 14 pts.
Remember folks. Marvin was never completely useless, until Flip and then Jamal came in and took shots and minutes away from him.
I doubt very seriously if Drew is going to play Jordan or Teague extended minutes tonight. Teague may play 15+ minutes, but Jordan may not see more than 10 minutes, unless he’s on fire from the get-go.
The man tonight has to be Mike Bibby. He has to be the shotmaker. If he outplays Nate, we’ll have a good shot to win this game, according to hoopsstats.com
When Bibby plays 25+ minutes in a game, he has posted better efficiency numbers than the opposing PG on 9 occasions.
Our record in those 9 games . . . . 8 – 1
Use that same parameter for Marvin, and he has only outplayed the opposing SF 4 times.
But we’ve won all 4 games.

I am VERY eager to see how our offense looks without Joe and Jamal. That would make it appear that ball movement should be greater tonight, but I dont know. We’ll learn alot about Josh tonight. Without both of our top offensive players, this seems like a perfect chance for Josh to try and “do too much”
We’ll be doomed if that happens.

hawks just need to put on their track shoes and just run run run until they can’t run anymore and see what happens, at this point we have nothing to lose and just make as many fastbreak points as we can to leave the c’s gasping for air, i think that’s the only shot we have now

And don’t be surprised if Zaza gets more burn than Collins in this game. This is the type of matchup I was talking about the other day conerning Collins.
He’s facing a center who is basically a garbageman, not a scorer. Collins’ strength is not grabbing rebounds. So if Boston is killing us early on the boards, Drew can’t stick with Collins. He’s either going to have to get Zaza in the game, or move Horford and Smith back to their regular positions.
And honestly, KG may be a tougher matchup tonight for Al, than that young center. Drew has to recognize quickly which matchup is more favorable for Al.
This is a good game to measure the leadership abilities of Horford and Smith. We need 10+ rebounds out of them, more than we need 20+ points. LOL . . if we can get 20+ pts and 10+ rebs, that’ll be the best outcome. But rebounds are more important than points tonight.
This will be a low scoring game, probably in the mid to high 80s. Instead of just predicting us to win or lose, I’ll say that the first team to 85 . . wins the game.
It was not a bad pick

I don’t know if I’ve seen as many negative minded fans as I’ve seen on these blogs. The idea that the Hawks don’t have a chance to win tonight because JJ and Jamal are missing says a lot. If we play the type of DEF we’re capable of, we can definitely win this gm.
They’re weak in the middle, in transition DEF, short on their bench, and slow. Horford is good enough to neutralize, or even out perform KG. Smoove is good enough to create some serious problems for PPierce, and possibly neutralize him. I think it’ll be a wash at center, so it appears the key to us winning this gm will be how well our guards measure up to their guards.
The other key to us winning this gm will boil down to the performances of JTeague, JPowell and Zaza off the bench? With the NEGATIVE MINDED, GLASS HALF EMPTY ATTITUDES AND MENTALITIES some of you possess, I wonder why you even bother to post comments, or even watch the gm. I CERTAINLY WOULDN’T WANT SOME OF YOU AS MY TEAMMATE.

With Rondo out, we can win:
Josh = Paul Pierce
Al = KG
Ray will crush Marvin, unless Marvin learned how to post up in the NBA yesterday. He might have, you never know. Stranger things have happened.
Nate will kill Bibby, but Teague and JC2 may help.
I like our bench better. Why? Because I think JT, JC2, Wilkens, Mo’, and Powell bring alot to the table in a game like this. Maybe even ZaZa and Etan. I say we have a shot unless we get down on ourselves.

Gotta agree with The Truth,
Questioning LD’s take on this game as well. Jordan has rarely seen playing time…and now you want to put him under the pressure of playing against the best team in the leauge (my opinion). Jordan has “somewhat” proven to be a scorer, but without having seen minutes since late November, can we honestly ask him to step up?

Pray!

David & Goliath
Dragon Slayers
Gnats and Flies
Small Ball
Run the Elephant out of the gym
All the cliche’s we can think of has to be our game plan tonight. Let Teague run straight to the cup and drop it in or pass it to the wings. Tell Josh to run the lanes and not try to play PG tonight. We need him playing INSIDE with Al all night long. We can win this game, but not in a half court set. Swarm to the ball on defense like gnats and flies on an elephant’s azz.
Let’s Go Hawks!

ATL fans, we also need to understand that signing Damien Wilkens was a very significant move. I was not one of the “we need 1 more wing” bloggers over the summer. I am now converted. We def. needed 1 more experience wing who was a very good defensive presence. We got one in Damien.
If we had a better backup C than ZaZa, say Dampier or Shaq, and a quicker PG than Bibby, I would say look out! EC Finals or better a possibly. But we still don’t have those 2 missing pieces.
But if ZaZa or somebody big catches fire off the bench, and Teague develops, again I say “Watch out, the Hawks are coming!”

I am almost ready to start hating on Bibby like I do Marvin
Unfortunately, hitting contested shots does not happen in the Playoffs. Bibby may hit shots at a high percentage, but they are pretty much all contested or close to being so. Even if they were wide open, he will not do this in the playoffs. It’s time he got in shape and actually got into the lane or played some semblance of DEFENSE.
I still have not received an explanation on how exactly he uses his body size to his advantage. He can’t post up players and has no speed at all

Al Horford got screwed on those foul calls. He didn’t even touch Erden on that first dunk. That foul should have been on Collins. Also, it’s not his fault that KG is too weak to try and box Horford out down low. Also, technical foul was total BS. If the refs were going to call a tech for that, it should have been a double technical. I just hope that L.D. doesn’t sit Horford for the entire second quarter. That could really hurt the team.

Teague has the 3rd best PER of our players available tonite. I think LD plays Bibby to protect the vet from saying he needs to be traded or retire because he makes 6+mil. I don’t think it has anything to do with his lack of offensive skills like LD told MC. Teague was an offensive beast in college. Now he does need to be more aggressive, granted.
JeJe

Well SteveW if that’s true, then let Bibby go. He is one of the 5 worst starting PGs in the NBA. Indiana (an 8 seed at best) has TWO point guards better than Bibby. So does Houston

I think LD plays Bibby, to clarify my last post, so people won’t call for Bibby to be traded or retire here at the end of his career. I don’t think it has to do with JT not having an offensive game or anything. I think it is one vet PG (LD) protecting another.

Josh and Al are getting the short end of things every time they make aggressive moves. It’s disappointing, to say the least. Horford has yet to get a foul called in his favor and Josh has attacked the rim on several occassions and managed to only get one foul called by some miracle. On the opposite end, they are calling Horford for ticky-tac touch fouls.

Sometimes the Hawks can be really frustrating to watch due to the fact that they don’t utilize the strengths of their players. Why in the world does Al only have 6 shots? He’s the best offensive option on the team when Joe and Jamal are out, not to mention that Josh is having an awful scoring night. You would think that L.D. would be running more plays for Al, but instead it seems like the opposite. They have run almost no plays at all for Al. It’s insane. Are we ever going to get to a point where people don’t have to constantly complain about the fact that Al is underutilized!? For heavens sake, give the man the ball and run something for him.

Teague will be bashed for having 5 turnovers and he wont have this good of a game for a while either. It’s really plain and simple and quite clear now. We are nothing without our “core”. Igniting on all cylinders. We might win another 2 or 3 games against good teams beore JJ comes back, but we are trash without him. He knows that, Sund knows that, Hawks know that, and we know that. Time to look at this situation realistically. And stop trying to avoid it with side stats.

He came back with Bibby to early at one point and he brought Mo in although Damien had outplayed him. Josh Powell might have the worst hands I have ever seen. Zaza was better than he has been recently but his defense is still terrible. They played hard they just got beat by a better team. Nice to see them not quit when they got down. HOW MANY TIMES THIS SEASON has a player on the team FOULED out?
I don’t know the number but less than 3 for sure.
THIS MEANS THAT HORF HAS NOT FOULED OUT MUCH IF AT ALL. I understand benching him so he could play the whole 2nd half, but taking out Damien with 2 fouls? Boston dominated the end of that 2nd quarter
STOP TAKING OUT PLAYERS IN FOUL TROUBLE AND LET THEM PLAY.

Josh is not yet an elite player. He is a very good player who whines and cries when he faces elite competition many times – like Boston and the Magic in the playoffs last year. I wish he would be a little bit more like KG in his professionalism. And Al’s not quite there either as a warrior – but I love his game!
Marvin 26 pts. – Wow!
Teague – 18 Pts. on 8-11 shooting and 4boards, 3asst. and 3 steals. Yes, 4-6 TO’s, but I wish he could learn on the court. I like he and Bibby on the floor together sometimes.
The Celt’s professionalism and experience won out in the end. And to think they got Big Baby in the 2nd round. Just like SA got DeJuan Blair at the 46th pick or something. We’ve got to learn to do that.

Anybody notice when the Hawks get hit in the mouth?
They fold up like a Lawn Chair?
Josh 0-8 WOW!
Josh bricked those two threes to start the game and disappeared like Marvin usually does. Then, when he did go inside he put up some wild shots near the rim and screamed for a foul!
INSIDE Peanut Butter – OUTSIDE Jelly – Josh! He lost that confidence and didn’t do the other things he normally do: like block some shots, rebound and assits his mates. I didn’t hear Al’s name a lot either, did he even show up in the paint to push Big-Baby away from the rims?
I was multi-tasking in the 2nd Half – what happened?
Them Celtics went in the locker room, sniffed some ammonia, re-grouped and came back to put my Hawks away.
What did we do in our locker room, because we were only down one point?
Josh was prolly in there pouting and complaining about he wasn’t getting any fouls called. He did NOT bring his “A” Game nor his “D” Game either.
What did my fellow bloggers see?

I just don’t want to hear/read about any moral f’ing victories. If the team hadn’t already totally quit on three games this year (Boston, Bucks, Pistons), then maybe it would be justified. But, don’t go lose to the Pistons because of a half assed effort and expect to be patted on the back just because you didn’t get killed by the Celtics.

Section 303, I guess when a guy gets surgery, I figure that he is hurt. I guess I assume that the injury didn’t happen instantaneously… he wasn;t healthy one day and had a “loose body” the next. And lastly, I don’t think coaches would send him to the All-Star game if he were a non-factor whom they don’t scheme to shut down during every contest against the Hawks. Yeah, I think we’re FAR better with Joe than without him (a healthy Joe that is). Funny how Roy gets a pass for being hurt in Portland while some refuse to link Joe’s inability to hit open jumpers to his recent surgery. Whatever.

My only knock on Drew…
Mo Evans and Damien Wilkins are the same damn players. But, Damien Wilkins defense is better than Mo Evans.
I understand we don’t have anybody behind Marvin on the wing, but any minutes Mo Evans clocks are a waste of minutes. He doesn’t give you much offensively, and defensively, he’s overrated. I know people were whining on this blog tonight about JC2’s mistakes, but, without much PT, he’s gonna continue to make those mistakes. But, if you groom the kid and get him touched up before playoff time, you’d have another solid option to fall back on off the bench.
I’d much rather see us groom Teague and JC2 and get them polished so we have more of an arsenal when the games really count as opposed to playing bums like Mo Evans throughout the season. You know what you’ll get from Mo throughout the season and at the end of the season when it counts. There really isn’t much room for improvement with this guy. You plug JC2 in, because his ceiling is much higher.
I know JC2 can’t back up Marvin. But, J.Smith has shown this season (not tonight – but for most of this season) that he can spot Marvin minutes at the 3. Give JC2 more court time. JC2 > > > > > Mo Evans.
And, I hope this game showed Drew that Teague needs minutes to polish his game. I also hope it showed him that some of these guys can contribute if we’re not always defering to JJ and Jamal. Guys like Teague and Marvin defer to JJ and Jamal too damn much, and they don’t go as hard when they’re in the game. Work to get that chemistry better when JJ and Jamal return.

@ SteveW
I said that Marvin would have to take 10+ shots and that he would at least get 14 pts. LOL . . no way did I see him going for 26 pts and 5 rebs.
I said that it was more important for Smith and Horford to get 10+ rebounds, than 20+ points. They got neither for the 2nd time in a row vs Boston.
And I said the first team to 85 will win. Boston was the first team to 85 . . and they won.
And by the way, we’re now 1 – 5 when Smith gets 4 rebounds or less. We can’t have him be a non-factor on the boards.
With Marvin and Teague having games like they had, we almost have to consider this a blown opportunity. Those 2 guys may never play that well again. So when they do, we need to make their performances count.
I don’t think it was a coincidence that Teague had a good game with the absence of Crawford. He got to dictate the offense with Jamal gone, and looked more for his offense.

Larry Drew is an absolute disgrace as a coach and is in no position to coach a professional basketball team. I have played in and watched basketball for many, many year, and watched many, many different teams, and I can tell you that L.D. looks lost. He is doing some of the worst coaching I have ever seen at the pro level. So many things are wrong with what he does that I could write a novel on it. The Hawks are not going to improve and reach their true potential with him as the head coach. This team desperately needs a change, and the main change that is needed is in the coaching staff. Drew needs to go. He clearly wasn’t ready for this job. For the personnel that the team has on the floor, this team is definitely underachieving, and although the players are not without fault, the majority of the blame goes on the coach in this case, without a doubt.

“i have never seen a guy drafted this high and never really given a chance to shine.”
Marvin has started 312 games in his career. How is that ANYTHING like what the Hawks did to Acie Law and are doing to Jeff Teague? The fact that he has started that many games, played over 30 minutes per game in every season since his rookie year, and STILL can’t find a way to contribute consistently just tells me that he is one dimensional. Either he is scoring or he is a complete liability, and more often than not he is a liability.
Yeah, he had a nice game tonight. But good players, and especially good players who are picked high in the lottery, find a way to impact the game in ways beyond scoring. For crying out loud, Smoove wasn’t even a lottery pick and he finds a way to impact the game positively in multiple ways. So does Joe, and so does Horford. At this point I think most of us are over the fact that he was picked #2. All we ask is that he do the little things — play solid D, knock down open shots when he gets them, don’t turn the ball over, crash the boards (especially the offensive boards), etc. None of that has anything to do with his involvement in the offense.

Please do not ever compare Coach Drew to Phil Jackson or any other Hall-of-Fame level coach. If Mike Woodson, with his very limited philosophy was able to get the Hawks to win 53 games, then it’s almost a guarantee that Phil Jackson would have the Hawks as a top-5 team every year. They’d be almost guaranteed at least 50 wins each season, even with injuries. The players are not perfect, but this team is loaded with talent. Coach Drew is a bad coach, plain and simple. He has no idea how to use his players effectively. It’s amazing how much better players look when they get the right coach and play to their strengths. You’d be surprised.

First of all, “coach killer” is one of the five dumbest phrases in sports. I remember when Jim Moron Sr. called Mike Vick a “coach killer” because Jim Moron Jr. was too stupid to figure out how to use him. It is a meaningless phrase meant to take the blame off an inadequate coach.
Secondly, Smoove does gamble more than he should, but it doesn’t change the fact that he has a huge defensive impact on the game, which is plainly visible in most games when he exits. He’s the guy who creates turnovers and fast break opportunities for this team, and he’s the guy who allows players like Bibby and Jamal to not be complete liabilities since they can funnel players in to him. I’m willing to live with some of his man to man defensive lapses as long as he continues to create the chaos he does in passing lanes and by altering shots (which he did several times in the first half today even as his shots weren’t falling).

Every player can’t thrive as a scorer in an ISO offense. But every player can play good defense, crash the boards, and knock down open shots in an iso offense. Marvin has never shown that he can do even that. That’s a much bigger knock on him than his lack of offensive development.
And anyway, this discussion is pointless. The Hawks rarely run iso offenses anymore anyway, even when Joe or Jamal is in the game. Maybe iso was an excuse in past years for Marvin. Not anymore.

Josh didn’t get many calls tonight and was a little uncomfortable tonight trying to find his offense from the perimeter. By the time Drew tried to move Josh to the post his head was out of the game and the C’s double teamed him.
Again, Horford was having a decent game until the third quarter when KG started to get in his head going at him on the offensive end.

@Section 303…”He has about 4-5 good games a year.”
If that is the case, then the motion offense is working, because he has already had about 4-5 good offensive games this year.
I count the defensive games also(like Gay, Iggy, Grainger..etc) I don’t expect much more from a 7mil player

“just dont think josh can go to his right.”
I agree with this and I’ve said it on many occasions, that Smoove needs to develop his right hand to become a better scoring threat. The encouraging thing is that he has added something to his game every offseason, so maybe sooner or later we will see this from him. But it’s a huge leap from saying “he can’t go to his right” to “he isn’t a good player”. He does enough things well that he is clearly valuable to this team, despite tonight’s disappearing act.

Im serious dude, did you watch the game tonight? why would you think im just talking s%^^..Marvin has talent ..it is a reason why Marvin was almost took #1 in the ENTIRE draft..this guy is not as mud as you people say..We have bigger problems than sf..WE HAVE NO CENTER..AND WE JUST GAVE A GUY NAME JOE MAX 129 million who has no heart.joe is solid but no way is he a true all star.he just tkaes alot of shots and always have the ball so his sats look good..Center is the hawks biggest problem..And yes Marvin has been a starter for 5 years, but no way you can deny that he never gets any shots..i mean this guy was the #2 pick of the draft, but instead of seeing what he can do, he is paid to watch Joe and Jamal,(used to be Flip) go one on one..Drew offense is a bettter fit for Marvin, but you also have to remember He started off good but then he got hurt…And Josh is shooting more this year also…

he can jump really high, with his left arm.
how about him dropping himself into the post?
how bout him playing with the back to the basket?
great fours, understand how to play with their back.

Not sure if you guys notice this but back when we played our 1st pre-season game this year, both Teague & Marvin had an EXCELLENT game amongst each other..both played really well w/o JJ nor Jamal cause that’s when Jamal set out most of the pre-season game due to the same injury, (BACK PAINS), and LD sat JJ most of that game as well SINCE IT WAS PRE-SEASON…I say all that to say, MAYBE, just MAYBE LD should allow Marvin to play along side Teague more often. As good as Jamal is, he is a ONE MAN SHOW too much for us and it handicaps players like Teague & Marvin!

So Hawks select Pape Sy with the 53rd pick.
Boston selects Semih Erden with the 60th pick.
So far, who is the better pick?

mike woodson has got to be postin’ as ELLIOT. and MARVIN WILLIAMS has got to be postin’ as IT WASNT A BAD PICK.
there is no effin’ way you can say that marvin was a great pick. so you are sayin’ that if the hawks had a do over they would pick marvin every time? we coulda got that same performance if we had picked marvin 17th

@Ron 10:14pm post
That’s why I have been requesting the likes of a PG like Nash..u wouldnt have to ask Nash to run a play for Al cause 99.9% of the plays WOULD BE RUN THRU AL CAUSE NASH IS A PLAY MAKER WHO GETS THE BALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE PLAYER WHO IS A TOP 3 OR 4 FG% IN THE LEAGUE RIGHT NOW!!! Bibby, u would think, would go thru Al more than he has but he doesn’t for some strange reason..and Teague, as good as he was tonight, could have gotten about 3 more assists tonight HAD HE THOUGHT TO GO THRU AL MORE!! MANN, if I was the PG out there, that’s all I would be doing is getting the HOT man the ball AT ALL TIMES!! Tonight, it was Marvin!! He couldnt miss almost!

The only positive is we didn’t get blown out by 20. With Woody coaching the game would have been over by the first quarter.

ant banks,
I’m not posting as Mike Woodson. LOL. Woodson was a decent coach for a while, but I really felt that he, too, was holding the team back. I was all for hiring a new coach at the end of last season, but Drew is definitely not the coach who should have been hired. Just because I don’t like Drew, doesn’t mean I liked Woodson. Woodson had several flaws as well, and placed the Hawks into some unfavorable situations on many occasions. I wanted him replaced, but not by someone who is even worse than he is.

HOF’rs -vs- Scrubs!
SteveW fixed his mouth to say this:
“drmaryb,
Please do not ever compare Coach Drew to Phil Jackson or any other Hall-of-Fame level coach. ”
First of All Sir:
Phil Jackson has NEVER coached a Scrub! Ever! He can drop to his Broke Hipped Knees and kiss MJ & Kobes pair of BALLS for each and every one of his 10 Rings that they gave him!
Like Barkley said, “YOU CAN NOT WIN w/o PLAYERS!
Phil has hand-picked TWO TEAMS to Coach: Bulls and Lakers!
You don’t coach HOF’rs and stacked benches:
You sit on your azz, cross your good leg over your bad leg and watch them demolish inferior talent!
Hell! You could clock out from your day job, show up at the Lake-Side Show, chat with Jerry Buss about what the team needs, smoke a fattie and WIN five Rings too!
Give Me a Break! Phil wouldn’t even bother to get on a plane to come here and coach an Atlanta Spirit – Hot Mess team like this!
