Hawks 97, Pacers 83

Greetings, all-

Hope you enjoyed the game, though it certainly didn’t look like a game anybody would enjoy at the start, particularly people who like to see baskets. Hawks started 1-for-12 and both teams were 11-for-41 in the first quarter. Yikes.

Notables for the game: Jeff Teague, who gave the Hawks a lot of energy after coming in with 3:26 to go in the first quarter; Al Horford, who had an off night shooting (7-for-2o) but compensated with an excellent night of defensive work on Roy Hibbert (3-for-14); Jamal Crawford, who was 7-for-16 from the field, 9-for-11 from the line and made way more offensive impact than his three assists would indicate.

Larry Drew: “I thought our bench did a great job in the second quarter. I thought Jeff Teague was the catalyst of that. His speed and his energy when he got into the game got us going.”

On Hawks’ scoring: “We got it off of movement. First of all with Hibbert, the one thing we wanted to do was keep him on the move, and we did that. We were able to get some really good looks.”

Drew put Horford back at center, replacing Jason Collins, to exploit the Hibbert matchup. Drew also said he could see Collins starting some when Joe Johnson comes back. Interesting possibility.

Josh Smith also came through with a couple three-point plays when the Pacers closed to seven. Drew: “I’ve got to stay on him about shot selection, but the thing with Josh, there’s some things you’ve got to live with and I’m willing to live with them when he’s giving me the energy and effort defensively and he’s still making great plays and great decisions on the offensive end.”

Josh Powell sprained his right knee, the same knee he sprained earlier. He hurt it colliding with Damien Wilkins defending a shot. Drew did not have an update on prognosis.

Odds and ends – Hawks have beaten Pacers eight straight. They’ve also won eight of their last 10 and are 16-9. Their record last year after 25 games was 19-6. Pacers took 28 3-pointers (making eight), which is the most taken by a Hawks opponent this season.

Whatcha think?

Good game by our Hawks! Wish coach would leave Teague in their and stop actin like WOODY on the minutes and trust prospective! They, and other teams, mount their combacks in second half of games by using a quick PG to break us down getting to the foul line and in the penalty early in the half! Its time to see what we got REALLY in Teague! We don’t need to do him like Acie Law and have him scared to make mistakes in the game in fear of being taken out when he does! Thats the only way a player learns in this league! Turn em’ loose LD!! LET’S GO HAWKS!!!

Re: Kirk Hinrich: I think Kirk Hinrich would be a solid acquisition … depending on who the Hawks had to give up to get him. Giving up JJ would be way too much, though.

Re: JC2 & Teague’s playing time: I think Dr. Mary makes some good points. One additional thing to keep in mind with JC2 is that he duplicates what JC1 does (high-volume shooter w/o much D), but in a rookie, not-near-as-good form. As for Teague, I was really hoping that he would progress enough so that he would EARN more minutes, but thus far, he has been inconsistent at best.

Re: Mo Evans: I was really expecting Mo to have a break out year. He moves well without the ball, and last year, he showed flashes of explosiveness especially when playing around the base line. I really thought the motion offense would suit Mo’s skill set well. But alas, Mo is not really looking any better. Perhaps his knee surgery has something to do with this. Perhaps Mo is as good as he is going to get. ???

Sund and Drew should make ZaZa hire Ida Cavin and Hakeem Olajuwon next off season and turn him into a basketball player, not just a 6-11 275 athlete. He’s still young, he could learn, and it would make him 10’s of millions of dollars in the future. Remember Mark Cuban said C’s don’t develop until 30 sometimes…

Powell has exceeded my expectations, so has Collins. Jordan Crawford is about what I thought, hope he’s ready for next year if Jamal’s gone. JT is not quite where I thought he would be, but he is a work in progress. The dude has more athleticism than Rose or Rondo, but he’s just got to get better on the court.

Bibby has exceeded my expectations. Josh and Al about right. Marvin? I’m ready to trade him. Make him part of this ‘Melo trade and get a 1st from somebody in return if possible. Sign Jarvis Hayes and let he and Damien take over the 3 spot. Mo’ has lost his offense more than any guy I can remember recently. Like his D sometimes though.

Jamal has gotten over his contractitis, and is being the Jamal we all love. And LD has shown me more than Woody at this point. When JJ gets back, hope we keep playing well.

And what’s up with our schedule? 7 back to backs in a month, and a ton of those are in different cities, especially away then home? Didn’t see that too much when I checked out San Antonio’s schedule….

Remember Sund said we are not trying to be contenders, he’s just hoping we have enough to remain in the top 4 in the East. He may have missed on that one:
Celts
Magic
Heat
Bulls
and if the Knicks get ‘Melo….

Mo’ is like 32, and he seems to have lost his 3 point shot. I did think with his 3, the motion offense could have been suited for him. Still a pretty solid defender alot of nights, esp. at the 2.

Joe Johnson for Kirk Hinrich.

LOL!!!!! People on this board aren’t even completely rejecting that one. That is the worst trade I have ever seen in my life.

Joe for Kirk + 1st rder = LOL!!! You do realize that Joe makes the Wiz better, and that can only make the 1st rder WORSE or LOWER?

I’m pretty sure that the Joe Johnson for Kirk Hinrich idea isn’t being discussed because it’s not possible (trade rules) and it’s not realistic (value, Wiz already stuck with Arenas, etc…). Just let it pass.

One thing that is going unnoticed about these Hawks are they are on the verge of winning more than 10 games on the road before the new year. If the Hawks win 11-12 games this side of 2011, I can really see them winning a minimum of 25 games on the road. If the Hawks simply win all the road games against teams who have worst records than theirs, they’ll have a chance for 30 road wins.

The Hawks really can be looking at a possible 55+ win season this year (60 really isn’t out of the question either).

JeJe

IDK about that Ramon.

We screwed around so much through most of our 9 losses. 55 wins may be a bit much. We honestly should only have 3 or 4 losses right now. It just took a while adjusting to the new coach.

I promise you that if we had Damien since the first game we’d have far fewer losses. He’d have the defense playing better. Our defense without him is far worse than it is with him. I don’t care what the stats say (if they oppose that statement)

I think it’s a matter of weeks before Boozer gets injured again and NYK is overachieving a bit (Amare is beasting like hell). We will be at least the 4 seed this year.

Also, don’t be surprised if Orlando pulls a blockbuster trade soon. I wonder if anyone would take Vince from them since Rashard is virtually untouchable

If we can get Kirk Hinrich(pg) and a future 1st rd pick from Washington for JJ and JT, it will be the best thing this organization has done in along time. Here’s why:

1) Kirk Hinrich would be the 1st true facilitor(pg) to wear a hawks uni since Mookie Blaylock

2) If JJ stays he will disrupt team chemistry when. I knew either Josh Smith or JJ was the culprit for this team I just wasn’t sure which one until JJ got injured. JJ most go!

3) JJ departure will save us alot of money under the cap.

4) No player in the league is bigger than the fans. If JJ doesn’t care if the fans show up, he doesn’t deserve to be in this league.

5) Jeff Teague is not a facilitator(pg). He is a dunker and shooter. I said this before we drafted that young man. It doesn’t make since to develope or show a millionaire how to create shots for his team and have leadership abilities. You learn those things in hs.

5) With 2 1st round picks we can draft quality players who can contribute right away.

I’ve enjoyed seeing different looks from LD. I really liked the use of Collins at C and moving Josh and Al to SF & PF. Marvin even looked pretty good at SG a few games. When Joe comes back use Marvin at backup w/ Powell for SF/PF.

If Teague could settle in and ZaZa could figure out the rotations we’d be alot better than last year IMHO.

Fundy!

I like that! Very innovative thinking … Cutting edge stuff:
So, what you’re saying is let Marvin spell Joe off the bench instead of Jamal? Or, do you start Jamal at the three? I’m confused right there.

So does Powell start at SF for offense and Damien back up Powell for defense?
Break that down for me some more. I really like Marvin coming in at SG for Joe, because that gives us defense (like Joe) and offense (not as well as Joe), but maybe Marvin will score more aggressively IF Joe is not on the floor to defer to.

What would you then do with Jamal though? You may be onto something magical here.

I may have missed your point? Are you saying start Powell at SF/PF and let Marvin come in off the bench for Powell? Can Powell defend the perimeter at SF? Mmmmh.

Marvin playing 25-30 mins @ the 3 and some @ the 4 off the bench is my ideal.

possible bench rotations:
Teague, Jamal, Marvin, Powell, Collins
Jamal, Damien, Marvin, Powell, ZaZa

Small ball yet defensively stingy and capable of scoring at all positions:
Teague, Jamal, Damien, Marvin, Powell

Marvin really just another PF so at 6′9 he’ll either be as big / strong or quicker than most opposing bench 4’s, he’ll go back to his true role.

I think the starting lineup is more intimidating without Marvin ne way you look at it,
Bibby, JJ, Josh, Al, Collins
Jamal, JJ, Josh, Al, Collins
Bibby, Joe, Damien, Josh, Al
Jamal, Damien, Joe, Josh, Al
etc

Video of CAPTAIN Kirk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUD9p9awoog

Read what some fans said about Kirk.

bwillie007,
Lakers need to figure out a way to get Hinrich. If they found a way to snake him, it is game over for everybody else in the NBA next year. None of their point guards can play a lick of defense and Hinrich would feel the ideal role in the triangle offense.

jaranarm,
I will miss him in Chicago. People often forget that he shut down Wade when the Bulls swept the defending champs Heat in the playoffs. The organization kind of messed him up by trading away players that fit his Kansas style team basketball and then overpaying him. I wish him well in Washington now.

silverdex,
so sad that captain kirk got traded!!! I hope the Lakers will get this guy for farmar and brown(If he signed again to the lakers)

triplehrule123,
Bulls shoulda traded Deng instead of Hinrich

PakoLocoproductions,
he was my fave bull…..ima mis him gr8 player

cfischer25,
I really want the Lakers to get Hinrich. We are gonna lose Farmar and getting Hinrich would be an upgrade over him. He is a good shooter, can run an offense and a great on-ball defender. He would fit in perfectly with the Lakers.

drmaryb, you’re getting away from my point. I’ve liked how LD seeks to combat different match-ups with different approaches. It’s like we have a different game plan against different teams.

We experimented with going extremely big a few nights, which I liked and it worked well. We had Bibby/Teague at PG Marvin/Crawford/Crawford SG Smoove/Marvin/Mo at SF Al/Powell/Marvin at PF and Collins/Etan/ZaZa at C.

I think in situations Josh & Al love playing SF and PF repsectively. Marvin showed some good minutes at SG, only b/c Joe was out. To me Marvin seems best as a back-up to Josh at SF, but could play some back-up at PF as well since he has the size. He just doesn’t seem to command starters minutes to me, but with injuries we use him everywhere.

Collins has been the key. He’s shown a great presence on D at C and shows that Josh and Al can move to SF and PF. Josh is showing the range to play SF and Al is showing the skills to be a better PF.

I love Powell, but I think he’s limited to PF. He’s a bit too small for C and a bit too slow for SG, but he’s very young and seems very talented. I’m loving what I’m seeing there.

The only trade I would be interesting in is getting Nash & JChills here!! And anyone who is saying Nash is too old..I dont care if he is 57, if Nash is still ballin the way he he, I DONT CARE HOW OLD HE IS!! Someone made a great point about the Spurs and Boston, those OLD DUDES are playing with SMARTS AND INTELLIGENCE! That’s what win games! And I dont think Phoenix HAS TO WANT the likes of Josh Smith nor Horford cause they arent STUPID to think we will give any of those guys for Nash. Phoenix just needs to rebuild cause they know Nash wants out so they could get some expiring contracts and some draft picks along with the TPE we got for JChills and they should be happy. NASH CAN AND WILL MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE ON THIS TEAM WITH THE GROUP WE HAVE. AMARE was the only guy that on their team thats an upgrade over anyone on our team right now. Joe(when healthy) is betta than J Richardson, Josh Smith is betta than G Hill, Horford is betta than any PF/C on their team..So Nash would be in B-Ball heaven if he came here!! SUND, PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN..NASH WANTS OUT AND HE WOULD COME HERE. JOE JOHNSON IS FINALLY DOING WHAT HIS AGENT TOLD HIM TO DO BY TRYIN TO RECRUIT A TOP PLAYER HERE..HE IS DOING THAT WITH NASH, A GUY IS HAS PLAYED WITH..SUND MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

The League’s Worst GM/OWNER?

Clippers GM taunting Baron Davis during games

Baron Davis (G) – Los Angeles Clippers

(Mon, Dec 13 – 6:08am ET)

Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been taunting Baron Davis from his courtside seat in recent games, saying things like “Why are you in the game?” and “You’re out of shape!”
Davis declined to talk about Sterling, but a source says the criticism is taking its toll. “I just got to be a little more free when I’m out there,” said Davis. “I’m just trying too hard…I got to get in that flow. The flow is messed up, man.” He’s starting again, which is at least a step in the right direction.

PG is all about Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford needs to learn how to run the offense in crunch time and become less offensive minded.

His offense is needed now because JJ is out, but with the improved jumper of Josh and Al’s offensive growth, we need more traditional PG play.(When JJ returns)

his defense has improved greatly over the last couple of weeks and that would solve our 4qt defense problems.

Jamal..PG 6′5
Joe….SG 6′8/MW/Wilkins
MW…..SF 6′9/Wilkins
Josh…PF 6′9/Powell/MW
AL…..C 6′10

What would be easier…trading for Kirk or coaching JC1 into a better PG or Coaching JJ into a better PG(BK said he could play PG when we signed him)

DMB, Billie Jean reference huh? Is Joe still dealing with his off the court issues?

Marvin and his contract numbers: Is he really worth 1/2 of a Chris Paul/Deron Williams? I gotta flat out state absolutely not….here’s hoping to see more and more of Damien Wilkins…..3 years after the fact….I knew he wasn’t called Quick Rick, but dang! How long have you guys around here been pining for Wilkins to come to Atlanta? Since we drafted David Andersen? Haha…

JeJe said this early on: And I hope we play Chicago in the 1st round. Wayyy overhyped. Horford will destroy Boozer (if he is even healthy by then), and that team has guys like Ronnie Brewer and Korver as key rotational players.

Jeje, I gotta disagree here……Chicago has climbed from 10 to 4 in the NBA power rankings this week after going 4-0…..DRose is taking over!

The Hawks? Slowly, methodically steady at #11…..that’s fair IMO…..

I don’t see us getting much better, and Joe doesn’t make us 124M better either. Guys, Joe now has one of those contracts that will haunt the existence of this franchise, provided the ASG can hold on to this team for 6 more years…perhaps they know something we don’t…..they don’t plan on being around that long?

I don’t see anyone taking on those ugly salary numbers….he will be just as hard to trade as Arenas is and as hard to justify as Jermaine O’Neal with the gawdy numbers he got from Miami.

And really, how is it possible that Antoine Walker could be broke? I heard that the NBAPU won’t stand tough on a strike because 60% of the players are spending all the money they’re making……how is that possible?

Grandpa, what 1 player out there realistically gets the Hawks to step it up a notch and is legitimately available?

You Heard?

Kevin M
You didn’t hear that Joe’s love interest had a paternity test and found out:

JOE is NOT the Father! Apparently, she is pregnant (5-Months at the time) by some famous rapper dude. I forget his name. Supposedly, this Summer Joe had her shacked up in his Miami So. Beach Mansion. This was before LeBron’s ESPN Show: The Decision aired. I never heard any more details after that.

IDK if she and Joe are still together. Besides Joe’s injured elbow, maybe his heart was injured too? That may also explain his slow start this year. But, I know the Elbow affected his jump shot more than anything else!

Get Well Soon Joe! We miss you on the court.
