Atlanta Hawks: Magic sick to their stomachs

The Magic are being attacked by some kind of stomach flu bug so there’s a chance they will be without Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Mickael Pietrus and J.J. Redick tonight against the Hawks.

(Update: Magic coach Stan Van Gundy says he’s optimistic Howard, Pietrus and Redick will play tonight though he’s not sure how much energy they will have. Nelson is doubtful)

From Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel:

Stan Van Gundy left Wisconsin hoping that Dwight Howard, Jameer Nelson, Mickael Pietrus and J.J. Redick will recover from their stomach virus in time to play Monday against the Atlanta Hawks.

But Van Gundy also emphasized that he had no idea whether the foursome would be healthy enough.

“Monday night, I think, is still pretty iffy for a lot of guys,” he said.

Redick came down with the illness first, beginning to experience symptoms early last Wednesday morning. Four days later, he still wasn’t ready to play in Milwaukee.

Howard and Nelson became ill on Friday. So, if their illnesses last four full days, they wouldn’t be able to play against the Hawks.

If those guys sit and the Hawks still can’t win in Orlando then it may never happen.

By the way, my stomach virus had me on the shelf for like two days last week. Yeah, that’s right, I’m saying I’m tougher than those dudes.

Could a legit center make up the difference on d with Josh gone, is the question? I think so. Al would be better on d too, guarding pf’s instead of centers. Not enthusiastically wanting to move Smith, but it might be the only way we can get to the next level.

Nash/Lopez/Hill/throwins?

Nash/JJ/Hill/Horford/Lopez

Come on, Sautee.

Bibby has no chance of guarding a fast PG (pretty much 85+% of the starting PGs in this league). He cannot get in the lane and hit floaters (even Teague can attempt to do that) and cannot take anyone off the dribble or beat anyone with his speed.

why can’t collins just break into the damn rotation he’s slow and unathletic but he’s one of the few hawks with brains and brawn to match it. the dude is pretty much always standing in the right place taking up space and boxing people out. people will hate me for saying that.

Jeje,

All of that may be true, but he’s still not bottom 5 this year. C’mon man you can say it:

“Bibby’s played better this year”.

Give the man his props.

Al needs more touches on offense…

I like the fact that the Hawks are taking advantage of their mismatch with Josh on Richardson, but Al has a definite advantage on Lewis and Bass as well, and the Hawks need to recognize that and go to it.

Both teams are shooting horribly, but the Hawks are actually killing the Magic on the glass so far. The Hawks are out-rebounding the Magic 13-7 so far. I like the way the team is playing with energy and intensity right now. I just hope that the bench doesn’t ruin that. Hopefully, Pachulia is coming in for Collins and not for either Al or Josh. Al and Josh have been the catalysts so far.

LD once said Marvin’s best position might be the 2. We’re about to find out. Just as I type this he gets blocked and falls down. Like the big lineup though. Bibby/Marvin/Josh/Al/Twin

Reddick, Duhon and Horford show you how championship-caliber players play the game.

Our big frontline is doing pretty well in this game. I have to admit, with Collins at the 5, Al at the 4, and Josh at the 3, we have pretty big, physical, imposing frontline. Josh and Al are all over their men, swatting most of what they throw up, and Collins isn’t letting Dwight outmuscle him to the basket. I like this lineup vs. the Magic. I’m just worried about what will happen when the bench comes in and Al and Josh take a breather.
