Atlanta Hawks at Timberwolves: Twin is in

MinneapolisL.D. wants to go big against the T-Wolves. He didn’t want J.J. to have to check Beasley. And with Jamal available to play he wanted to keep the usual second unit intact.

The result: Jason Collins will start at center tonight against the T-Wolves.

“I think I am accomplishing two things with Marvin being out,” L.D. said. “One, [avoiding] having to possibly moving one of my first three reserves into a starting role. And the other matching up with them at the three spot. Moving Jason in keeps the reserves in their normal rotation, and then we are able to keep match up with Beasley.”

Collins last started a game on April 15, 2009 when he played for the Timberwolves. He draws Darko Milicic tonight.

Jamal went through the walkthrough today and told L.D. he feels good.

“If it starts to bother him any, I will pull him back or remove him from the game completely,” Drew said.

Minnesota is tied for fifth in offensive rebounding rate and No. 1 in offensive rebounds per game. The Hawks are 13th in defensive rebounding rate and fifth in overall rebounding rate.

So the Hawks for the most part have been holding their own on the boards. But Detroit stayed in the game the other night almost solely due to 17 offensive rebounds. L.D. planned to show the team some video of those rebounds before they take the floor tonight.

“We didn’t seek bodies,” he said. “I just thought Detroit did a much better job going after it. It seemed we were a step slow. I want them to see just exactly how bad we were. If we have a performance like that tonight, the end result of this game could be disastrous.”

Good move to start twin. We will need him against Orlando, so this helps him get ready.

Lets see Zaza, Al, Josh, JJ, and Teague run the show for a minute. I like that line up especially now that Zaza has been taking boxing classes……..he seems eager when hes on the floor.

The 18-2 run against the Pistons started with a nasty backdown by Z and a quick 2 points.

Powell should also get some good burn tonight. Lets go pick and punch the T-Wolves in the mouth.

Go Hawks…..and if anyone doesn’t have cable like me, you can watch it live on http://atdhe.net/index.html

Go Hawks 6-0!

I absolutely love how Drew isnt scared to use the bench though. This can only be positive for the team.

I so wanna be at the Heat-Hornets game but I guess will have to hold it down for the both of us…This is an intriguing line up with Twin at 5 – hope it pays dividends.

I would love to see JJ and Bibby play 30 minutes or less tonight. Let’s see if the bench can facilitate that.

Wow this is an… interesting lineup.

Looking good so far, though, although I wonder how much of that is the Hawks playing well (which they are) and how much of it is Minnesota being that bad (which they are).

If Joe keeps shooting like this, though, anyone can beat the Hawks.

In his first two games, Joe had 11 and 12 free throws respectively. Since then he’s had 4, 2, and 2. That’s gotta change, regardless of his field goal percentage. One of the main advantages of this shift in offensive philosophy should be that Joe gets on the move and gets fouled more.

Agreed Najeh.

Just because JJ has a good matchup is no reason to keep using iso. Just feed Joe within the offense and he’ll score more easily.

Bibby shooting well, Josh playing well and Teague getting in the lane at will those are good signs. Everything else is a bad sign especially rebounding, Joe and giving up a lead to the TWolves already

I hope that L.D. isn’t too overly-cautious again with the fouls tonight. Al has 2 and Josh has 1 already, but I hope he plays both of them regular minutes in the second quarter. The team is short-handed enough as it is, and with Joe struggling so heavily and Jamal having toe issues, it would be in the best interest of the team to utilize Al and Josh as much as possible.
