Atlanta Hawks: Getaway day

There will be a blog hiatus for a couple weeks while I get away for some me time. There’s a chance I might drop in with a post if anything interesting happens with the Hawks but don’t count on that (either something interesting happening or me dropping in). Meanwhile the beat will be in the capable hands of Ken S., who will chronicle the Hawks’ attempts to pluck a center from the bargain bin.

I suspect not much will have changed with my blog people when I return. Truth-Serum will still be using his multiple identities to agree with himself that Al is a terrible defensive center. JeJe will continue to rip ASG for not letting J.J. walk and using all that cap space to SIGN FREAKIN’ LEBRON. And all of you will wonder how in the heck this squad is supposed to make a move in the East with basically the same guys suiting up.

Be easy until I get back, blog people. Remember, it’s all love and and it’s just basketball . . .

“Bottom line When the season begans the hawks will again be picked 5-9 seed and again they will be forecasted to be 1 and done.”

9th seed? There’s a new one.

If they are 9th seed, who will they face in the first round?

Teague showed flashes of his quickness against NBA guys (unfortunately, he missed a lot of his floaters). I look forward to Drew pushing the tempo with these guys.

O’brien,

I think he needs to not just perfect hitting that floater, but also work on finishing at the rim in general. Nothing wrong with off-the-glass layups, and there are plenty of “short”-but-athletic guys who finish in the league like that. Of course, a reliable mid-range shot also changes things up rather well. It’s how Jason Terry has not only survived, but excelled at this level.

Man, I love that step-back jumper by Teague. He sets that up perfectly by being a threat to drive with that quickness of his. Hope to see that much more this season.

Teague has been knocking down that jumper. That is a good sign

Ray,

It will also help if he learns how to initiate the contact down low.

Teague with the step back jumper. And then gets the block on defense. And teague with another floater

my advice for Teague would be to watch a lot of Rondo film.. they have similar skill sets.. equally athletic.. Rondo as an assortment of finishes around the rim 12 ft on in..

Actually, Draftexpress.com says JC2’s max vertical was damn near 35 inches….that’s pretty good.

bigdave,

One thing about Rondo though, is he has really long arms. Another guy Teague can look at is Tony Parker.

Ray,

Exactly. Although the Hawks were near the top of the list in fast break points last season, Bibby does not have the speed or legs to push the ball like Teague does.

Teague with the block. Gotta love his hustle on defense. He turned the ball over, but did not quit on the play.

I do NOT want to see RandyMo in camp. He was playing well for a second there before he ran into Wayne Ellington and nearly knocked himself out.

Funny thing about max verticals is Teague’s is even higher than Crawford’s. His was measured at 36.5″

The Hawks being the Hawks they will let somebody else snatch up Aminu and bring back porkchop Collins

O’brien..

Tony P is a hell of a finisher, however his jump shot and shot of the dribble has gotten more respectable. Teague has the ability to knock down shots so has his skill progresses i can see that.

i say Rondo b/c though physically they are built differently, they will be defended similarly.. due to like deficiencies and the tempo and scoring threats of both offenses. i just would like Jeff to observe how Rondo attacks and facilitates given his shooting limitations.

Lol yea O’Brien I dont think I have ever seen a guy with Marvins size get his shot denied by smaller guys more than Marvin. He also has trouble finishing over small guys. Dude is tall and long for nothing.

cp,

I’d like to see Aminu on the roster next season also. He could be a nice backup 4 for our bench. Also, since the ownership is so bent on saving money, it would be a cheap financial move as well.

Big Ray

Trey,

Hard to say, but I don’t think it will be immediate. Just a hunch. Teague is really sort of going through his “second” rookie year, in a way.

Trey

Big Ray,

I agree. I don’t think it will be immediate by any means. The fact that Bibby’s defensive liabilities are becoming more and more apparent might speed up the process of getting Teague a starting spot though. Also, LD seems to be a much bigger JT0 fan than Woody ever was.

Big Ray

Count me in on Aminu…

Big Ray

July 18th, 2010

Trey,

Yeah, it seems that way. Woody was trying to win games and go places, Larry is perhaps under a little less pressure with Teague from that standpoint, but then….I could be wrong on that tip.

I’d agree overall though, and say that Larry is a bigger fan because he actually has an assertive offensive plan, and would like to pick up the pace. In order to do that, we really need Teague, not so much Mike Bibby.

It’s going to be interesting how things work out with Jordan Crawford next season. I didn’t expect him to play much at all given the abundance of guards at his position on the roster. However, based upon his performance this summer, he seems like the kind of guy who could force his way into the rotation pretty quick. For a rookie, he seems relatively fearless and plays with a great swagger. I could see him cutting into Teague’s minutes a bit next season. Either that, or Bibby’s minutes might start to decline more and more.

cp

De’Andre great points but we all know how slow our front office is to make moves. Other teams saw how well Aminu played and might offer him a chance to make their team before we do. Lets just hope Sund isn’t slow with this decision. I think its a no brainer to bring Aminu in. Like you said he can be a nice backup pf and he will be cheap. Nice fit if you ask me.

O'Brien

Trey,

Even if LD was not a JT0 fan, when you hear the owner say he thinks Teague deserved more PT, then it is probably in LD’s best interest to give Jeff the opportunity for more PT.

I am fine if Bibby starts. But his minutes should be very limited (no more than 20, unless he is on fire), and Teague should be able to earn 20 minutes or so every game. (JJ and Crawford will probably spend a few minutes running the offense).

As for Aminu, I definitely think he has earned an invite to camp.

The one thing I really like about Teague and Jordan, they attack the basket. Far too many times last season, the Hawks settlet for jumpshots and I think part of that was due to lack of guys ability dribble drive. With those guys attacking the basket, it should open up higher percentage shots for other players….

bigdave

Melvin..

give a lot of credit to Woodson’s offense as well. with guys being basically stationary their defenders are easily in position to help. its kinda tough getting to the hoop on multiple defenders. i like the constant movement away from ball side that i’ve seen this summer.. i cant wait to see how the starters improve w/ in this system.

bigdave

Hawks should use their Trade exception (and/or Mo Evans) with Minny for 2 of the 3 players (Corey Brewer, Ryan Hollins or Kosta Koufos)… Heck, take all 3 of those players….
