Hawks 83, Bucks 60
Las Vegas– The Hawks ended their two-game summer skid with an 83-60 W against the Bucks. It wasn’t a thing of beauty offensively but it definitely was an impressive defensive effort. “We told them no layups,” said Lester Conner. “We told them if somebody goes by you, you are coming out of the game.”
– Richard Hendrix replaced RandMo in the starting lineup. “No reflection on Randolph,” Conner said. “It’s just that starting unit was getting us in bad holes. They were chasing us tonight.”
– Tough offensive night for JC2 but he really worked on defense. He fought through screens and challenged everything. The Hawks can use as many guys as they can get who will do that. “If your shot is not falling, you have to do something else to impact the game,” Crawford said.
– Crawford was just 3 of 12 from the field, including 0 for 2 on 3-pointers. He just didn’t have it from the start. Said Conne: “He came out and shot a bad 3, and we told him, ‘Hey, we are going to get you some shots. Don’t worry about that, just keep focusing on the defense.’ ”
– It was a good sign that even with his troubles scoring Crawford kept attacking. He’s a relentless rookie. “He’s raw but he seems to get it done,” Conner said. “It’s going to be fun to watch Jamal Crawford and Jordan Crawford at the same time out there because they have similar attack modes.”
– Teague bounced back from the poor game against the Spurs. He had 13 points, five assists and three turnovers. “I was trying to play my game,” he said. “Yesterday I was too casual and had the turnovers. I was trying to be aggressive and get into the lane. I knew if I did that, it would open up a lot of things.”
– Teague was really under control while driving to the basket. His quickness gets him into the lane and his leaping ability allows him to finish. Neither will be as easy once he plays against NBA squads but you can see the potential.
– Conner still wants to see Teague be more aggressive: “He ran the team pretty well. He made some good decisions. We are still looking for him to demand the ball more. Sometimes he can drift up and let someone else handle it and then we are all out of kilter.”
– Teague said it was one fan on Twitter talking about him getting outplayed by a D-Leaguer that got him riled up. He said he’s staying away from Twitter from now on.
– While Atlanta’s defensive pressure pretty much reduced Milwaukee to passing around the perimeter until late in the shot clock, the Hawks went hard to the rack. They were rewarded with 30 free-throw attempts vs. 10 for the Bucks. “We wanted to be the aggressor,” Crawford said. “I think that’s the reason why we won.”
– Hendrix is looking like a vet camp invite to me. He’s tough to handle in the post. But he’s not a good leaper and doesn’t use his body as well as he could to clear out space for rebounds. Hendrix has just eight total rebounds in 59 minutes. “He’s got some skills down there on the block but he tries to rebound with one arm,” Conner said. “He wasn’t coming up with enough rebounds. But overall he’s a big body and you need guys like that in this league.”
– Pape Sy (Achilles’) was scratched for the second straight game.
– There’s nothing to the rumors about a Shaq-for-Marvin sign-and-trade being close to going down. It seems an Atlanta radio station reported “unconfirmed rumors” that were the same unconfirmed rumors that were out there yesterday and had already been shot down. A Cleveland radio station picked up the Atlanta station’s rumors, and then the Atlanta station started citing the Cleveland station. This circular, inaccurate reporting all led to one of the best tweets of all time.
– Well, blog people, I’m flying out of Vegas tonight and start vacation tomorrow. Family reunion in Chicago, followed by a few days back home in Louisville, then back to Vegas for a real vacation, and then some downtime in the A.

if larry drew offense is all of that and we win 50+ games and have a decent showing in the playoffs, the michael p. woodson will neva, eva get another coaching job. i am sure woodson will be watching the hawks performance more than anyone. and if teague takes off this year, that will be further indictment on the michael p. woodson

Nobody cares about Woodson anymore here. He had his shot. We gave him all we could. Teague will improve greatly, as should Marvin. LD’s got the talent to keep up the 50 wins. We honestly should’ve pushed towards 60 last year. Too many lapses in concentration last season. We need a full 82 of consistent effort.

I would not mind the Javaris option, however, he is not the “quick type PG” which I would like to have pressurizing Teague in practice.
However, his size could give us some match up advantage in some circumstances.

Thanks for the question, What I like and What the ASG are willing to do are worlds apart!
We basically have 4M to spend without making and trades and going into the 9:08:57 AM.
If the starters are untouchable, which I vehemently disagree with? That leaves very little possibility of a trade
unless some teams wants our bench.
So with 4M available and three spots to fill? We need to go to The Piggly Wiggly to fill that shopping cart.
Having said that?
Kwame is outa’ our price range
Javaris is outa’ our price range
Shaq is outa’ our price range
Looks like we’ll be shopping from the 2 for a $1.00 Bargain Bin:
PG – Ishmael Smith from Houston’s SL Team looks amazing to me!
(They have Aaron Brooks, so maybe we can steal him, if no one is watching.)
Center – Garret Siler from Net’s SL Team looks OK to me at our price range!
(I am from Aiken, SC / Augusta, GA area – So, one for the home team there.)
Center – (Does it really matter?)
Sign a back up PF here: Hendrix. Or, Gilder at SF.
This is depressing and futile.

I am so sick of forwards. We have been lied to by the Hawks management. We traded picks for $3,000,000, yet we don’t use it. We trade Childress for salary money, yet we don’t use it.
After this is over, I hope that someone ask the management of the Hawks some tough questions.

Hey, i like the idea of bringing in J.Crittenton to back up J. Teague, first off Crittenton is a tall point guard at 6′5″ and would add good minutes off the bench and height since we need every rebound we can get as no true center to be found. M.Bibby should be traded now as he is slowing down too much and won’t fit L.D’s new ball movement and speed system. Better sign the summer league centers before another team does or it is status quo for upcoming season.

The hawks have roughly $4.5 mil to spend without going into luxury tax. Given that the vet minimum is $1. 3 mil, I think they will get 3 guys at the vet minimum.
I think those 3 guys should be 1 center, 1 PF, and either a PG, SF, or perimeter defender for the other spot

3KLUB,
If hawks don’t use the TPE within 1 year, it will expire. But I don’t see them using it.
As for crittendon, I’m a GT fan, and I watched some of his college games. If I remember correctly, he forced the issue too many times.
But part of that was because Hewitt is not a good coach IMO. and the talent wasn’t that good around him.
However, I would give him a shot (bad choice of words). But he is a low risk, high reward Guy.

I ended up watching the Wizards-Mavs game last night. I was very impressed wtih Jevele McGhee; it would be nice to pick him up, but I think the Wizards are too high on him. I also was impressed by Jeremy Lin, an asian point guard from Harvard. He’s a little raw, but he would be a nice pick up if he slips through the cracks.

ESPN Trade Machine doesn’t allow us to trade draft picks though… You think if the Cavs received a pick or two from us and the Hornets they might pull the trigger on that deal?? For all those pushing we should’ve won 60 games last year and all that, I hear you, but we’ve seen Cleveland win 60 games the last 2 years and not get to the NBA Finals. That’s all that matters to me. I would like for us to get 60 of course, but what matters to me is if we can win 16 games when they count the most, and you all know what 16 games I am talking about.

All of your betchen and moaning(and i too can spell,i know kids are reading this) sounds like its coming from a “PLAYERS PRESPECTIVE”,for real!!
I want everyone to imagine watching a player and a fan on tv in a press conference and they are asked by the interviewer,”whats up with the hawks fans”?
And imagine a fan answering the question and saying what ATL wrote, then a player in a hawks uniform answering it saying the exact same thing as well as ATL said too!!
And u can see why it sounds more like a player, coach,or someone in the ORGANIZATION..Or,it may be someone outside the hawks who is an athlete..

For a team that’s not flushed with cash, I think the Hawks are taking the correct approach when it comes to addressing the backup center situation. After all, we did manage to win 53gms and finish 3rd in the East with Zaza basically being the only backup center used regularly.
First, we need to see what we have in PG JTeague. Why should we feel pressured to over spend on a center now when we might find out by the trade deadline that we need a starting PG more? Secondly, we need to see if HC LDrew and his new OFF can get SF MWilliams back on track, which could also end up being a major need.
A number of the centers who decided not to opt out of the final yr of their contracts, could very well end up becoming trade bait by the trade deadline, and at a much cheaper cost. By that time, we should definitely have a handle on exactly what we need most, be it PG, SF, C, or any combination of the 3.
We should also have a good idea about what we have in Jordan Crawford, and whether he’s good enough, and/or has progressed enough, for us to consider the possibility of trading Jamal Crawford’s expiring contract by the trade deadline.
As far as Shaq is concerned, all of you who are so enamored with us acquiring him should think for a moment. If, as he’s indicated, he wants to start and get starter money, and we don’t want him as a starter, nor are we willing to pay him starter money, why waste time with anyone this unreasonable.
If he’s having difficultly dealing with the reality of his situation now, you can bet he’s going to have problems with the reality of the situation he’d be in with us, and will end up causing major problems. STAY AWAY FROM THAT FOOL.

JO MAMA/TRUTH SERUM-Once again you demonstrate the extreme limits of your ability to engage in rational thought. Why would you make an issue of getting rid of JTeague, because you claim he sucks, yet never make an issue of getting rid of MBibby, who definitely sucked, both offensively and defensively?
Your suggestion of training Jordon Crawford as a PG is equally stupid. What do you suggest we do for a PG while we’re waiting for him to develop, assuming it can be successfully done? And what center do you suggest we trade Teague and Marvin for? Since we certainly can’t trade them for an All Star caliber center, you are certainly the only person ANAL MINDED enough to suggest we use AHorford, AN ALL STAR CENTER, as a backup to a none All Star caliber center and PF.
STUPID IS IS STUPID DOES!!
