Las Vegas–I know my blog people have been trying to trade Marvin (and Bibby) with every conceivable and inconceivable permutation of fantasy deals. My favorite thing is when the proposals go like this: “Marvin and Bibby are terrible and their contracts are burdens. The Hawks should trade them for (fill in the blank with better players with more reasonable contracts).”
So do you want Marvin gone so badly that you’d swap him for 38-year old Shaq as a two-year-rental-at-most off the bench? David Aldridge reports that the Cavs are dangling Shaq in a sign-and-trade proposal for Marvin. Since the Hawks could just sign Shaq using the mid-level exception if they want him (which still isn’t certain) the Cavs presumably are counting on Atlanta’s desire to shed Marvin’s contract as the primary motivation for a trade.
Assuming Shaq gets the two-year deal he wants, Atlanta’s savings would total the difference between their salaries over the next two seasons plus the final two seasons of Marvin’s deal (assuming he exercises his option year)
For 2010-11, the Hawks’ savings would be the difference between the $6.7 million owed Marvin and Shaq’s new salary. For 2011-12, the savings would be Marvin’s $7.5 million salary minus Shaq’s salary. Shaq and Marvin would both be off the books in 2012-13, when Marvin makes $8.3 million, and the Hawks wouldn’t be on the hook for Marvin’s $7.5 million option in 2013-14.
Since this is all premature talk at this point, I won’t get into how the Hawks would go about replacing Marvin in the lineup. The Hawks still aren’t sure if Shaq would be a good fit even if he is willing to take less than the mid-level. Also, Marvin still has support within the organization, with the hope that L.D.’s new system will make a big difference in his production.
As for Aldridge’s contention that the Hawks aren’t willing to pay much more than the minimum due to “budget limitations,” all I can tell you is that everything I’ve heard suggests they are willing to exceed the luxury-tax threshold for the right player(s). I get the feeling that player isn’t Shaq.

Ken Strickland,
“MBarnes has had the benefit of playing with PG Steve Nash, a 2 time MVP and future HOFer, and PG JNelson, an All Star. Unfortunately, Marvin has had to play with career backup PG’s like TLue, AJohnson and RIvey, as well as a rapidly declining MBibby. But, if Marvin is traded, I certainly wouldn’t have a problem with MBarnes.”
Matt Barnes has also never palyed in a system that allowed him to be left wide open in the corner for three and with an open driving lane to the basket as Marvin had. If you have watched Matt Barnes any, particulary in Golden State, in the playoffs with Steven Jackson and Barron Davis on the floor, he shot 42% from 3 on 19 of 45 3 point shots. Also the Golden State series showed what he could do compared to Marvin with similar minutes. Marvin would not even have the nuts to shoot 45 3’s as evidenced from this years playoffs where he shot a grand total of 2 3’s. Barnes could easily fill Marvin’s shoes offensively, and is a much better defender. They both rebound at the same rate also.

Overall I like how they fought back. The turnovers and the inability to rebound killed them… Teague was terrible in the first half but bounced back in the second. Crawford was good again.. This Gilder kid was good. He has to hit the weight room. Gladyr needs about two more years overseas…RandyMo cant rebound the ball even if u hand it to him. Gilder, Hendrix, and Aminu are the only guys I would invite to camp and let them battle it out for the last spot.

Lol we can never seem to stay on subject.
Anyways I’m one of those who still has high hopes for Marvin. No one can deny him the fact that he is athletic and can play the game of basketball very well. I say we give him another year. After that if we havent noticed a pretty significant improvement then just trade him away. What im paranoid about, is the scary thought of once we trade him, he’ll turn into a Jamal Crawford or Lamar Odom kinda productive player. Just playing a 3, but being so productive.
That’d be heart-breaking. As for a personal thing, maybe he just needs a better system to flourish. Either way hope he does good and lives up to the expectations of everyone.

I can’t understand why after 2 games people judge these players.
I just want to know what happens if JC2 doesn’t make any shots the next game what would you say about that, and he plays piss poor defense.
Then what if Jeff Teague went off and grabbed say 27 pts and dished out 15 assists with 1 turnover.
I just want to know what would be said about that if it did happen.

Everyone, including myself wanted more time for Teague last year, and lets not forget that this is summer league for he and JC2..
Now,JC2 is doing what he supposed to do against summer league talent,he is outplaying his opponents and Teague did better the 2nd half..Teague just has to be ready for summer camp/pre-season/regular season/PLAYOFFS!!
I would rather he play inconsistent now than in the summer camp,pre-season,regular season and the post..U FEEL ME..than to play like this and lose his spot and playing time and maybe even a place on this team..
He can’t get better as the season go on,and he will..

Exactly people don’t seem to remember, but Rajon Rondo the starting PG for Boston didn’t fully blossom into a great PG only a few seasons ago actually more like last season you could say.
For people always asking about Chris Paul the guy had half his knee removed, and not only that I doubt he wants to come to Atlanta, and I personally don’t want him here myself cause I feel like we got him probably and more in Jeff Teague.
As for JC2 I also like how he’s playing, but always remember there is a reason it’s the summer league, and not the pre-season/reg season/ or playoffs.
Cause there have been draft busts that dominated the summer league on to lay bricks basically.

I’ll tell you this much – Pat Riley is gonna’ cut that LeBron – “Side Line Show” right out of the play-book!
No more “Powder Kegs” and bafoonery to start the games in 2010!
Joakim Noah should be pleased. And, I guess Noah was also correct re:
“Everybody knows there is NOTING to do in Cleveland, I mean – Do you like it?”
Well, looks like LeBron agreed and dipped right on out of there. Good Luck Mr. Gilbert on recruiting FA’s now.
Wow, how the mighty have fallen. I don’t think Marvin wants to go their either, maybe he should have joined the Summer League to work on his issues and stuff. I’m just sayin’. I couldn’t hurt, unless he played like RandMo

First let me say that I am a fan of Teague, and I think he will be ready to go at the start of the season.
However, the fact remains, he is a second year player who did not get much PT his rookie year, and we were a 53 win team.
So I have always been interested in a 3rd PG, because if Teague struggles, or gets hurt, we would be forced to play Bibby, JJ, and Jamal at the point.
Denver just signed Anthony Carter for the vet minimum, so there are guys out there (Rafer Alston maybe?). We need a 3rd PG, especially if he can play some defense.

“As is stands, John Wall would crush Jeff Teague. Watching wall run the break is scary. Teagues on ball defense needs to improve.”
I would hope so, considering how much hype he got coming into the draft.
Jeff Teague was on the backhalf of the first round for a reason. The guy wasn’t supposed to step right in and become a Top-5 PG. On the other hand, John Wall is expected to be great – and great sooner rather than later.
Jeff Teague is still as RAW as RAW gets. The kid has little to no confidence in his jumper and still needs to work on his decision-making. He needs to learn when to take it himself and when to dish it. Right now, he comes off as a bit indecisive.
The addition of JC2 is a major upgrade. He’s an NBA-ready talent and unlike Teague, doesn’t come off as RAW. Of course, there are things that he’ll have to adjust, but his feel for the game and ability to put the ball in the hoop makes him a more polished prospect than Teague was a year ago.
Give both of them some time.

I hope people know that the hawks aren’t sitting on their azz either. Just because you see people signing every person named Tom, Dick, and Harry doesn’t mean these people will be any good in that system.
When the trade deadline happened and the Cavs got Jamison and Big Z both for nothing people assumed that they would reach the finals and win it all. Guess what happened?
So with that said I trust that the hawks will make the right move in this free agency. Even though I wish they would have drafted one of those project bigs in the 2nd round, but enough of that it’s in the past.
I say with the players we got right now we could get to the ECF or beyond once you think about the only team standing in our way to the Finals was the Magic cause we blasted Boston, and the way the Cavs played the hawks probably could have beat them.
I still say that series against the Magic the hawks defeated themselves because they let petty things take over when winning should have matter the most.

Wabe, I agree. I would have LOVED to see that matchup in this summerleage. Teague vs. Wall. I have faith in Jeff Teage. I think he is our starter next season. I’m not trying to kick him to the curb. But like any fan, I just want more from him. I wanna see him succeed. He had a bad night, but he played exellent on monday.
Teague can score with the best of them, when I said “Crushed”, I meant on the defensive end (just to clarify). I wasnt too worried about the 9 tunovers in SL, it happens (he’s passing to Luke Jackson lol, haters) but His defense really suprised me. He’s gotta step up on that end of the floor. I didn’t see the first 7minutes of the game so maybe he was just winded from that point on, but it has to improve. Jerrels blew by him on too many occasions.

@O’brien I’ll give you the last two with them signing Jason Collins and RandyMo, but as for Joe Smith I felt he wasn’t used properly anyway.
If what they say is true about the locker room issues and how Mike Woodson played favorites then I say at least give him another shot. Maybe Jason Collins too, but looking at RandyMo he needs to pack his bags cause he’s been ****ing bricks if you know what I mean or stinking up the place.
Then again to be fair give him another shot too, but if say in Summer camp you got younger centers running circles around RandMo and Collins get rid of them both. I’m actually interested in the Garret Siler guy from Augusta St. heard some rumblings about him last year.
As for Joe Smith I think he should stay given he’s a vet and has some experience that he could pass on to other players unlike say Collins cause I look at Collins like he’s just worn out I’d take Shaq over Collins for that matter.
