Atlanta Hawks: Childress sign-and-trade in works (UPDATE: Hawks, Suns agree to trade)

The Hawks have agreed to a sign-and-trade that would send forward Josh Childress to Phoenix for a second-round pick and a trade exception, people with knowledge of the situation confirmed.

Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic reported Sunday night that the deal was “on the verge” of completion. Childress would sign with Phoenix for six years and at least $30 million, according to the report.

If Childress signs a deal for those terms, Atlanta’s trade exception would be worth half the amount of his first-year salary since he would become a base-year compensation player. The exception works as a sort of credit that would allow the Hawks to make a trade while over the salary cap without meeting the usual salary-matching requirement.

Atlanta drafted Childress with the No. 6 overall pick of the 2004 draft. He played four seasons with the Hawks before opting to sign a free-agent contract with Greek team Olympiakos in 2008. He has until Thursday to opt out of the final season of that three-year, $20 million deal.

Coaching was the #1 issue

Coaching… Started Mike Bibby every game but one(jeff Teague 24pts 15ast)

Coaching…Thought Al Horford guarding PG was a good strategy

Coaching…Thought a “Street ball offense” could win a title

Coaching…Created division in the locker room.

Coaching…Is the reason for the lack of player development.

Coaching…Thought a “Grind it out” offense was best for the collection of athletes the Hawks have.

The New Coach…Thinks all the stuff I just outlined is BAD COACHING and promises to change all of it…I have faith that these changes will have a profound effect on our team.

PS. Gotcha..I am not Ken, I just agree with alot of his points and he stats them better than I could.

darrell starks true analysis.

I think we would have been better to let things play out, get a “real” starting center (as horford would say) and crack the big two.

Now were changing directions…. lets see, 4 years and we climb up every year, If we are going up and we change directions… the opposite of up is …Down.

Why in the Hell did we change directions? Why didnt we just get a starting center and a point guard?

Coaching impact about 2% of the season. What is relevant is what type of talent is on the team. Coaches dont win championships players do and no coach ever got a MVP trophy. What a waste of time. Ive never heard a player on a championship team say “we never would have done it with out coach fart breath.”

The reason lebron and bosh and wade are getting together has nothing to do with whos the coach. Its about stacking all the talent on one team.

This team is headed in the wrong direction and dealing with things that dont matter.

i don’t get it.

Chill was a top 10 pick and was performing well before going to greece. And all we can get is a 2nd round pick for his rights? I understand Chill may not want to play for the Hawks, but i’m assuming we don’t have to pay him while he’s in greece.
So why not demand more for the guy… like a player who might actually help the roster.
Seems like we are just giving away the guy and not getting anything back.

Is this really a precedent we want to start?

The Hawks are not committed to winning the people they have running the franchise don’t have a clue what they are doing. The Hawks GM should be Dominique Wilkins. Signing Joe Johnson to a six year deal when he said he don’t care about the fans what a joke. I’m not spending any of my money on the hawks I’m going to root for the Miami Heat.

Truth-Serum: I understand what you’re saying, and in the NBA this could be somewhat true… But Coaching impact 2%?!?

I won’t give you a percentage on what it is but I do think coaching plays a bigger role than that. A good coach doesn’t just draw up the plays, they are the leaders and the foundations of most NBA teams. A good coach can carry a team beyond its expectations, while a bad one can lead a talented team to disappointment.

Don’t bring up the Big 3 in Miami when talking about the importance of an NBA Coach! Because you know that’s different, PLUS, THEY HAVEN’T PLAYED A GAME YET!!!

And “NO” coaches don’t get MVP awards… that stands for Most Valuable PLAYER!!! Coaches get their own awards.

No Salmons, Ben Gordon, or even Heinrich = NO CHANCE. We will trash the Bulls like we have been the past two seasons. as long a Mike Bibby isn’t allowed near the court, or the Arena for that matter.

I thought our blog had grown past the Chris Paul bullsh#t. I was wrong. Guys, just stop it. Chris Paul was not even the best PG in that draft. There’s this guy named Darren Williams who is better.

Chris Paul is not going to be playing here. And, considering the guy has major knee issues, I do not think that is such a bad thing.
